Fruit Development and Structure in Some Indian Bamboos   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Fruit structure and development of seven species belonging tofive genera of Indian bamboos are described. The fruit in fourspecies is a caryopsis typical of the family Poaceae. The ovuleis bitegmic; the outer surface of the cells of nucellar epidermisbecomes cutinized and forms the seed coat. Three species beara fleshy fruit with a unitegmic ovule. In a mature fruit theendosperm is either completely absorbed by the embryo or ispresent only in small quantity. The developing embryo comesin direct contact with the fruit wall due to the disintegrationof the nucellus and integument. The embryo is covered by a thickbrown mat from the disorganized cells of the inner layers ofthe fruit wall. Distribution of iron-containing oxidases in aging nodal rootsof rice and wheat was studied. Activities of cytochrome c oxidase(1.9.3.1 [EC] , cytochrome c : O2 oxidoreductase), catalase (1.11.1.6 [EC] ,H2O2: H2O2 oxidoreductase) and peroxidase (1.11.1.7 [EC] , donor:H2O2 oxidoreductase) in wheat roots were comparatively higherthan were those in rice roots at corresponding stages. Cytochromec oxidase in roots remained active throughout the lives of therice and wheat crops. In rice roots, catalase seemed to playa distinct role around the panicle formation stage. Decay ofcatalase activity took place earlier than did that of peroxidaseand cytochrome c oxidase activities. In wheat roots similarenzyme activity changes were not observed. Data may suggestthat the high activity of iron containing oxidases at the panicleformation stage (I) may be chiefly due to catalase activityin rice roots. 1Paper presented at the 14th Annual Meeting of the Society ofthe Science of Soil and Manure, Japan (1968). The structure and development of stomata in eight species ofCrotalaria belonging to the family Papilionaceae are described.The study is mostly confined to the leaves but it has also beenmade on the floral organs of C. mysorensis, C. retusa, C. sericea,and C. triquetra. The stomata may be paracytic, anisocytic,anomocytic, diacytic, or with one subsidiary cell. The differenttypes occur individually or they are placed side by side evenon the same surface of an organ. In general the paracytic typeis by far the commonest, followed by anisocytic and anomocyticones. Diacytic stomata and those with one subsidiary cell arerelatively rare. Different types of stomata in various organsof the same plant develop mesogenously. The present investigationalso indicates that the inconstancy of stomata in the familyis due to (a) their diversity and (b) an increase in the numberof subsidiary cells either by their division or by the neighbouringperigenes becoming subsidiary cell-like.  相似文献

The mahseers (Tor, Neolissochilus and Naziritor) are an important group of fishes endemic to Asia with the conservation status of most species evaluated as threatened. Conservation plans to revive these declining wild populations are hindered by unstable taxonomy. Molecular phylogeny studies with mitochondrial genome have been successfully used to reconstruct the phylogenetic tree and to resolve taxonomic ambiguity. In the present study, complete mitochondrial genome of Tor tor has been sequenced using ion torrent next-generation sequencing platform with coverage of more than 1000 ×. Comparative mitogenome analysis shows higher divergence value at ND1 gene than COI gene. Further, occurrence of a distinct genetic lineage of T. tor is revealed. The phylogenetic relationship among mahseer group has been defined as Neolissochilus hexagonolepis ((T. sinensis (T. putitora, T. tor), (T. khudree, T. tambroides)).  相似文献

This experiment studies the comparative activities of terminaloxidases (Fe-containing oxidases, Cu-containing oxidases andCN-resistant oxidases) in roots of rice and wheat seedlingsand the effect of root pruning on these terminal oxidases inthe roots of those crops. Data indicate that (i) excepting achange in the activity of Cu-containing oxidases no appreciabledifference in respiration or in Fe-containing and CN-resistantoxidases was noticed in the two types of seedling roots and(ii) root pruning did not produce any noticeable change in terminaloxidase activities in roots of wheat seedlings. A drastic changein terminal oxidase activities in roots of rice seedlings wasobserved, suggesting that a close relationship exists betweenCN-resistant oxidase and transplanting time. The present investigation describes the ontogeny of normal andabnormal stomata for three species of the Araliaceae. The maturestomata are mostly anisocytic, occasionally paracytic, and rarelyanomocytic. Several aberrent patterns of stomatal developmenthave been noticed in anisocytic stomata and a few in paracyticones. The ontogeny of anisocytic and paracytic stomata conformsto the syndetocheilic or mesogenous type, while that of anomocyticis haplocheilic or perigenous.  相似文献

The spiracular structure characterized with a system of snarling dense outgrowths, has been studied in order to elucidate their reinterpreted role in respiration. The tracheal anatomy has undergone modifications to subserve a secondary function of reducing the metabolic heat in the thorax—a region of relatively high metabolic activity. Tracheation is so arranged as to enable this insect to lead successfully an amphibious existence. The rate of its oxygen consumption and its capacity to remain under water with an air bubble which functions as an efficient physical gill with temperature as an important limiting factor has been studied. Attempts have been made to analyse the anatomy of the respiratory system with reference to the insect's behaviour in its environment.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. Lipophosphoglycan has recently been demonstrated on the cell surface of Entamoeba histolytica strain HM-1:IMSS. A monoclonal antibody against this molecule had failed to react with some other strains of E. histolytica, including the strain Rahman. To determine if a structurally distinct lipophosphoglycan existed in Rahman, [3H]galactose-labeled glycoconjugates were electrophoresed through sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The electrophoretic pattern in Rahman was very different compared to that obtained with strains HM-1:IMSS and 200:NIH. A number of experiments including sensitivity to mild acid, nitrous acid and phosphoinositol-specific phospholipase C suggest that the Rahman glycoconjugate is indeed a lipophosphogylcan-like molecule but distinctly different from that of HM-1:IMSS. Mild acid-treated glycoconjugates from Rahman and HM-1:IMSS revealed the presence of neutral trisaccharides and monosaccharides in Rahman but not in HM-1:IMSS. Human immune sera from amoebiasis patients and a polyclonal antibody against HM-1:IMSS liphophosphoglycan both recognized Rahman glycoconjugate. Thus, while lipophosphoglycan molecules from the two strains share common epitopes, they are clearly distinct from each other. Molecules bearing resemblance to lipophosphoglycan could not be detected in other Entamoeba species, namely Entamoeba invadens and Entamoeba moshkovskii.  相似文献

Stomata and trichomes are described on the leaves of six speciesof Dioscorea. As many as six types were found in D. bulbiferaand D. oppositifolia, four types in D.hispida and D. wallichii,three types in D. belophylla, but only two types in D. alata.Although there is a diversity of stomata even on the same surface,the predominant type is anomocytic in all the species exceptD. bulbifera in which it is tricytic. Rarely a stoma is alsocyclocytic in D. bulbifera. An increase in the number of subsidiarycells in paracytic, tricytic, or diacytic stomata takes placeby the wall formation in them. Similarly a reduction in thenumber of subsidiary cells of a tetracytic stoma is the resultof lateral subsidiary cells assuming the form of epidermal cells.Abnormalities such as a stoma with one guard cell, degenerationof guard cells, and contiguous stomata are also met with. Theorganization of different types of stomata is studied in D.bulbifera and D. wallichii and shown to be perigenous. Capitateglandular hairs were seen on the leaves of D. belophylla, D.bulbifera, D. hispida, and D. wallichii but non-glandular, uniseriate,3-celled trichomes were observed only in D. hispida.  相似文献

Antifungal antibiotic from Pseudomonas chlororaphis isolate PA23 was identified as Phenazine using TLC and HPLC. Phenazine recorded the highest inhibition zone of 21?mm with 35.55% percent inhibition of mycelial growth of Pythium aphanidermatum over control. It had a significant effect on the hyphal morphology of P. aphanidermatum and on spore germination of Botryodiplodia theobromae and Alternaria solani. Disorganization of hyphal morphology of P. aphanidermatum includes vacuolization, cell content degeneration and hyphal lysis. Similarly interaction of phenazine with Rhizoctonia solani resulted in abnormal swelling of hyphal tips was noticed in the hyphal tips. Similarly the germination of sclerotia of Macrophomina phaseolina, R. solani and Sclerotium rolfsii were completely inhibited by phenazine at a concentration 50?μl. Incubation of the eggs of the root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita in 30?μl concentration of phenazine, completely suppressed the hatching of juveniles.  相似文献
