The results of chemical and ultrastructural research show thatin seedlings of Pinus halepensis growing on vermiculite andwater, nourished by the endosperm, the synthesis of resin proceedsas well in darkness as in light. Starved seedlings, which hadused all the endosperm, were grown without nutrients for tenadditional days in darkness. In these seedlings the quantityof terpenes was greater than in seedlings which were still nourishedby the endosperm. In spite of the long period of starvation,which lowered the density of the cytoplasm and of the numberof the organelles (in epithelial and other cells), the plantsdid not use the terpenoid constituents of the resin as substrates. Development of the resin duct cavity, sites of resin synthesisin the epithelial cells and elimination of resin from the protoplastwere studied in roots of young Pinus halepensis seedlings. Itis suggested that the Golgi bodies are involved in dissolutionof the middle lamella in the region of the future duct cavityby secretion of lytic enzymes into the cell walls. In earlystages of duct development osmiophilic droplets were observedin plastids, periplastidal and cytoplasmic ER, Golgi vesicles,mitochondria, nuclear envelope and in the cytoplasm. In thelatter they were often observed to be surrounded by a membrane.Electron micrographs suggested that elimination of resin dropletsfrom the protoplast occurs by their becoming surrounded by plasmalemmainvaginations.  相似文献

Regeneration Around Wounds and the Control of Vascular Differentiation   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The question which was the basis of this work was whether (a)vascular regeneration around wounds includes a replacement ofdamaged tissues or (b) only new vascular strands, which arenormally formed from the cambium, are diverted around wounds.It was found that in Coleus and Cucumis no connections are formedto damaged sieve tubes and vessels, so that their continuityaround wounds is not restored. Pisum plants were wounded underconditions in which growth could not be influenced and the areaof the xylem in cross-section was measured 1 month later. Thewounds, which damaged the vascular tissues, significantly increasedvascular differentiation, indicating the replacement of a longnon-functional region of damaged tissues. The results indicatethat in the intact plant vascular differentiation is controllednot only by stimuli from the leaves but also by the capacityof the mature vascular system to transport these stimuli.  相似文献

A cytochemical approach was used to study the architecture ofthe end wall and its modifications during vessel differentiationin Populus italica and Dianthus caryophyllus. The combinationof cytochemical techniques with selective extractions to removeend wall subunits provides information on the different componentsof the end wall and on the method of perforation. The end wallappears to be formed mainly from pectins and hemicelluloses.No cellulosic components nor lignin were found though the 3,3'-diaminobenzidine assay revealed the presence of peroxidases.That the method of perforation may depend on the species isdiscussed. The ultrastructure of the resin secreting cells of root ductsof young Pinus halepensis seedlings was studied. It is suggestedthat the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) in addition to taking partin resin synthesis also plays a role in transporting the resinfrom the plastids, mitochondria and nuclear envelope to theplasmalemma. By fusing with the plasmalemma the ER releasesthe resin to the outside of the protoplast. The resin producedin the ground cytoplasm and by the Golgi apparatus seems tobe eliminated by plasmalemma invaginations. Pinus halepensis, resin secretion, root ducts, endoplasmic reticulum  相似文献

Certain developmental features of cell wall hydrolysis werestudied in the secondary xylem of poplar (Populus italica Moench).At the intervascular pit membrane hydrolysis starts prematurelybefore differentiation of the secondary wall is complete andincreases progressively. Eventually the whole of the middlelamella is hydrolysed, and the primary wall undergoes lyticmodification. The modified polysaccharides are dispersed, presumablyby the transpiration stream. During differentiation the vessel-parenchymapit membrane remains unaltered and undergoes thickening. Thepresent investigation suggests that the plasalemma plays animportant role in the ordered hydrolysis of certain regionsof the primary walls.
