A circadian rhythm of activity is demonstrated in single neurons of Nephrops norvegicus (L.). Eyestalk extracts depress neural and locomotor activity. Entrainment of rhythmicity is achieved by the environmental light cycle, apparently acting through the eye.  相似文献

Environmental factors are used by plants as spatio‐temporal indicators of favorable conditions for seed germination. Thus, the objective of this study was to determine the effect of light and temperature on seed germination of 30 taxa of Cactaceae occurring in northeastern Brazil and to evaluate whether fluctuations in temperature are capable of altering light sensitivity. The seeds were tested for germination under two light conditions (12 h photoperiod and continuous darkness) and 10 temperature treatments: eight constant temperatures (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45°C) and two alternating temperatures (30/20°C and 35/25°C). The species studied showed two photoblastic responses. All cacti from the Cactoideae subfamily (22 taxa) were classified as positive photoblastic (i.e., no germination in darkness), regardless of the temperature treatment used. Likewise, temperature fluctuation did not alter the seed sensitivity to light. On the other hand, the species of the Opuntioideae (five taxa) and Pereskioideae (three taxa) subfamilies are indifferent to light (i.e., germinated both in the presence and absence of light). The cacti from the areas of Caatinga and Cerrado showed an optimal germination temperature of 30°C, while the species from Atlantic Forest and Restinga areas showed an optimal germination temperature of 25°C.  相似文献

Various stressors were used to induce stress proteins in Clostridium perfringens. Cultures of C. perfringens FD-1041 were subjected to cold shock (28°C for 1 h), acid shock (pH 4.5 for 30 min), or heat shock (50°C for 30 min). Cells were lysed and protein samples were analyzed by immunoblotting with antiserum derived from rabbits suffering from gas gangrene. Eight cold shock proteins (approximate Mr 101, 82, 70, 37, 22, 12, 10 and 6 kDa) and also eight heat shock proteins (approximate Mr 101, 82, 70, 27, 22, 16, 12 and 10 kDa) were immunoreactive with the serum. No immunoreactive proteins were detected in samples subjected to acid shock proteins and purified DnaK protein was also non-immunoreactive with the serum. These immunogenic stress proteins may be important in regulating diseases caused by C. perfringens. Such proteins could be involved in cell survival mechanisms, serve as targets during infection, or play a role in recognition of the bacteria by the host.  相似文献

The effect of seven different constant temperatures and five ranges of alternating temperatures on seed germination of seven species of cacti from Puebla, México was analyzed. Six cacti species germinated in a wide range of temperature. Columnar cacti were more tolerant to low temperatures and germinated in a wider range of temperature than barrel cacti. One of the barrel cacti studied (Ferocactus recurvus) only reached full germination at 25 °C . Temperature fluctuations did not produce significant effects on germination compared to the results obtained at constant temperatures. This may reveal differing ecophysiological adaptations with respect to temperature requirements during the establishment conditions for each life form. Columnar cacti may become established mainly under the shade of desert shrubs, whereas barrel cacti maybe can also become established in open areas, beneath the shade of small rocks or soil irregularities. In both cases, temperature fluctuations are attenuated by the shade, but mean temperatures may be higher in the second condition than beneath the shade of plants.  相似文献

The octapeptide red pigment-concentrating hormone is capable of eliciting the aggregation of intracellular pigment granules in distal retinal pigment cells of isolated retinas of the crayfish Procambarus clarkii (Girard). The final level and the time course of pigment aggregation are dose dependent within a range of 10(-10) mol l(-1) to 10(-4) mol l(-1). The effect of red pigment-concentrating hormone is prevented by previous incubation with an anti- red pigment-concentrating hormone antibody; however, application of the antibody after the onset of the red pigment-concentrating hormone effect, does not prevent its full development. A similar effect to that elicited by red pigment-concentrating hormone is induced by the calcium ionophores ionomycin and A-23187. Red pigment-concentrating hormone evokes entry of 45Ca2+ to retinal cells. However, the red pigment-concentrating hormone-induced pigment aggregation persists in the presence of the calcium channel blocker verapamil and in Ca2+-free solutions. Caffeine and thapsigargin, known to release calcium from intracellular stores, elicit distal pigment aggregation, while ryanodine and dantrolene, blockers of intracellular calcium release, as well as the intracellular calcium chelator bapta-AM suppress the effect of red pigment-concentrating hormone. These results suggest that red pigment-concentrating hormone elicits distal retinal pigment aggregation by increasing intracellular calcium concentration, acting via a dual mechanism: (1) promoting calcium entry, and (2) releasing intracellular calcium.  相似文献

The electrical activity of single neurons in the X ogan-sinus gland system of the crayfish was continuously recorded from isolated eyestalks kept in darkness over periods of time up to 96 h. Ample diurnal variations were detected in the spontaneous firing rate of single units in the sinus gland and the X organ-sinus gland tract. Some units displayed a nocturnal peak of activity; others were more active at day-time. Intracellular recordings from X organ somata showed similar diurnal patterns of activity. During the silent periods, the neurons could be activated by intracellular stimulation through the recording electrode. The transition from resting to activity phases was concurrent with a slow depolarization and increase of membrane conductance. No correlation could be documented with the pattern of synaptic input.  相似文献

Primary central nervous system lymphomas in immunocompetent patients   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Primary Central nervous system lymphoma is a rare non-Hodgkin's tumor of the brain that has been traditionally found in patients with immunodeficiency syndromes. However, there are several immunocompetent patients that have also been reported with this neoplasm. In this group of patients, the mean age of diagnosis is around 60-year old, with a very slight predominance in women. Macroscopically, most of the tumors are unique and mainly located in the supratentorial region in the proximity of the cerebrospinal fluid circulation. The typical histological pattern is a perivascular distribution of tumor cells, within a network of reticulin fibers. Even though they are usually well defined masses, it is not rare to find tumor invasion beyond the macroscopic margin. Coagulative necrosis is not as common as in immunodeficiency-related cases. Immunohistochemistry has demonstrated that most of the tumor cells are B-lymphocytes and the electron microscopic findings do not differ from those reported in systemic non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. There are several histological classifications of these tumors, some of them with recent modifications to facilitate the analysis, but unfortunately, up now with a little or no clinical significance. The diagnosis is based on the histological study of the specimen obtained mainly through a Stereotactic biopsy. The treatment is based on a combination of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy, but the mortality rate is still high.  相似文献

The response of seed germination towards light and the relationship to seed traits has been studied particularly well in tropical forests. Several authors have shown a clear adaptive response of seed size and photoblastism, however, the evolutionary significance of this relationship for species inhabiting arid environments has not been fully understood and only some studies have considered the response in a phylogenetic context. We collected seeds from 54 cacti species spread throughout the tribe Cacteae to test whether there was correlated evolution of photoblastism, seed traits and germination using a reconstructed phylogeny of the tribe. For each species we determined the photoblastic response under controlled conditions, and seed traits, and analyzed the results using phylogenetically independent contrasts. All studied species were positive photoblastic contrasting with the basal Pereskia suggesting an early evolution of this trait. Seeds from basal species were mostly medium-sized, diverging into two groups. Seeds tend to get smaller and lighter suggesting an evolution to smaller sizes. No evidence exists of a relationship between seed size and photoblastic response suggesting that the photoblastic response within members of this tribe is not adaptive though it is phylogenetically fixed and that is coupled with environmental cues that fine tune the germination response.  相似文献
