Aim
The distribution of mesoplankton communities has been poorly studied at global scale, especially from in situ instruments. This study aims to (1) describe the global distribution of mesoplankton communities in relation to their environment and (2) assess the ability of various environmental-based ocean regionalizations to explain the distribution of these communities.Location
Global ocean, 0–500 m depth.Time Period
2008–2019.Major Taxa Studied
Twenty-eight groups of large mesoplanktonic and macroplanktonic organisms, covering Metazoa, Rhizaria and Cyanobacteria. Methods
From a global data set of 2500 vertical profiles making use of the Underwater Vision Profiler 5 (UVP5), an in situ imaging instrument, we studied the global distribution of large (>600 μm) mesoplanktonic organisms. Among the 6.8 million imaged objects, 330,000 were large zooplanktonic organisms and phytoplankton colonies, the rest consisting of marine snow particles. Multivariate ordination (PCA) and clustering were used to describe patterns in community composition, while comparison with existing regionalizations was performed with regression methods (RDA).Results
Within the observed size range, epipelagic plankton communities were Trichodesmium-enriched in the intertropical Atlantic, Copepoda-enriched at high latitudes and in upwelling areas, and Rhizaria-enriched in oligotrophic areas. In the mesopelagic layer, Copepoda-enriched communities were also found at high latitudes and in the Atlantic Ocean, while Rhizaria-enriched communities prevailed in the Peruvian upwelling system and a few mixed communities were found elsewhere. The comparison between the distribution of these communities and a set of existing regionalizations of the ocean suggested that the structure of plankton communities described above is mostly driven by basin-level environmental conditions.Main Conclusions
In both layers, three types of plankton communities emerged and seemed to be mostly driven by regional environmental conditions. This work sheds light on the role not only of metazoans, but also of unexpected large protists and cyanobacteria in structuring large mesoplankton communities. 相似文献2.

Fungal infections remain a serious clinical problem with a high disease and financial burden, especially among immunocompromised
and critically ill patients. Numerous efforts have not fully identified clinical and laboratory risk factors for increased
susceptibility to fungal infections. The recent acquisition of knowledge about innate immune responses to fungi and genetic
alterations in immunologic mechanisms has revealed additional genetic risk factors and has shed more light on the predisposition
of individuals to fungal infections. The aim of this review is to address the findings of recent studies associating genetic
factors with susceptibility to fungal infections, focusing on the most common opportunistic fungi, Candida and Aspergillus species. 相似文献

The members of Malassezia species, which may cause skin disorders in healthy individuals, are associated with both cutaneous and systemic disorders
in immunocompromised patients. These disorders include folliculitis, seborrheic dermatitis, catheter-related fungemia, and
deeply invasive infections. This review examines not only the risk factors and pathogenesis of this rare fungal infection
but also the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of Malassezia infections in immunocompromised patients. Reports from several series of immunocompromised patients have shown low mortality
rates with appropriate treatment. 相似文献

Introduction
Transient myeloproliferative disorder is a hematologic abnormality characterized by an uncontrolled proliferation of myeloblasts in peripheral blood and bone marrow that primarily affects newborns and babies with Down syndrome. Tumor lysis syndrome is rarely associated with transient myeloproliferative disorder.Case presentation
Transient myeloproliferative disorder was diagnosed in a seven-day-old baby girl with Down syndrome, who was referred to our department due to hyperleukocytosis. Our patient developed tumor lysis syndrome, successfully treated with rasburicase, as a complication of transient myeloproliferative disorder resulting from rapid degradation of myeloid blasts after initiation of effective chemotherapy. Conclusions
Tumor lysis syndrome is rarely reported as a complication of transient myeloproliferative disorder. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of a newborn with Down syndrome and transient myeloproliferative disorder treated with rasburicase for developing tumor lysis syndrome.5.

A mini-Tn5 transposon derivative, mini-Tn5gfp-km, has been constructed which contained a promoter-less artificial operon consisting of two open reading frames, green fluorescent protein (GFP) and neomycin phosphotransferase II (NptII). When this transposon was used to mutagenize Agrobacterium tumefaciens, all the mutants selected in the presence of kanamycin exhibited GFP expression, which could be conveniently monitored by a fluorometer. The transposon appeared to be bifunctional and could provide both selection and reporter functions. Even the mutants showing minimal levels of GFP expression were still resistant to kanamycin. This suggests that this transposon can be used to select for insertions downstream of both weak and strong promoters, as long as the insertions themselves are non-lethal. This system was used to identify A. tumefaciens genes that were upregulated in response to acidic pH. Screening only 20 colonies led to identification of two promoters that were specifically induced by low pH and one promoter that was specifically induced by acetosyringone in a minimal medium of pH 5.5. 相似文献

Neonatal invasive fungal infections (IFIs) remain an increasing problem associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality,
as well as late-onset neurodevelopmental implications. Invasive candidiasis remains the leading neonatal IFI. Candida albicans is the fungal species most often affecting this population, although a changing epidemiologic incidence to non-albicans Candida species is reported in some neonatal intensive care units. Many treatment recommendations are extrapolated from adult populations,
emphasizing the need to establish the optimal antifungal agent, dosage, and duration of therapy in neonates. Historically,
conventional amphotericin B has been considered an efficient and safe treatment approach for most neonatal IFIs. More recently,
lipid formulations of amphotericin B have been studied, used alone or in combination with other antifungal agents such as
azoles or echinocandins. The aim of this article is to review the published experience in the use of amphotericin B formulations
to treat neonatal IFIs. 相似文献

The potential of a genome-substituted form Avrolata (AABBUU) as a genetic system in genomic and chromosome manipulations for gene transfer from the wild species Aegilops umbellulata Eig. (UU) to cultivated wheat was studied. It was shown that plants combining resistance to leaf brown rust with high productivity may be produced from this form by classical hybridization procedures. The resistance gene introduced to line R-12 is dominant and probably identical to the Lr9 gene. By N-banding, chromosome staining technique and gliadin electrophoresis, the structural changes in chromosomes 1A, 2A, 4B, 6B, 7B, 1D, and 2D of the resistant line R-12 were revealed. 相似文献

An increasing trend of reports of rare fungal diseases has been observed to be mainly associated with the substantial increase of high-risk immunocompromised children, as well as with the selective pressure of antifungal drugs. On the other hand, recent reports have shown that several species of these rare fungi may also cause infections in immunocompetent children without obvious underlying conditions. The clinical spectrum of these infections, and most importantly their outcome, varies greatly, implying for a rather heterogenic group of pediatric infections. Various types of superficial and subcutaneous fungal infections, as well as systemic and disseminated life-threatening infections, have been reported. Prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment of rare fungal diseases in children remains a great challenge. Several treatment options have been used, ranging from localized to combination treatment with extensive surgical excision and long-term antifungal therapy. We review contemporary data of rare fungal infections in pediatric patients focusing on epidemiology, mycology, management and outcome, published during the last three years. 相似文献
