Phosphite is a stable phosphorus compound that, together with phosphate, made up a substantial part of the total phosphorus content of the prebiotic Earth's crust. Oxidation of phosphite to phosphate releases electrons at an unusually low redox potential (−690 mV at pH 7.0). Numerous aerobic and anaerobic bacteria use phosphite as a phosphorus source and oxidise it to phosphate for synthesis of nucleotides and other phosphorus-containing cell constituents. Only two pure cultures of strictly anaerobic bacteria have been isolated so far that use phosphite as an electron donor in their energy metabolism, the Gram-positive Phosphitispora fastidiosa and the Gram-negative Desulfotignum phosphitoxidans. The key enzyme of this metabolism is an NAD+-dependent phosphite dehydrogenase enzyme that phosphorylates AMP to ADP. These phosphorylating phosphite dehydrogenases were found to be related to nucleoside diphosphate sugar epimerases. The produced NADH is channelled into autotrophic CO2 fixation via the Wood-Ljungdahl (CO-DH) pathway, thus allowing for nearly complete assimilation of the substrate electrons into bacterial biomass. This extremely efficient type of electron flow connects energy and carbon metabolism directly through NADH and might have been important in the early evolution of life when phosphite was easily available on Earth. 相似文献

Acoustic signals play a key role in shaping the relationships in birds. Common cuckoos Cuculus canorus are known to produce various call types, but the function of these calls has only been studied recently. Here, we used a combination of field recordings (conducted in 2017) and playback experiments (conducted in 2018) to investigate the functional significance of common cuckoo calls. We found significant differences in the characteristics between male two‐element “cu‐coo” and three‐element “cu‐cu‐coo” calls, with these two call types being used in different contexts. The three‐element male “cu‐cu‐coo” calls were associated with females emitting their “bubbling” call. Playback experiments revealed that both males and females exhibit stronger responses to playing female “bubbling” calls than with the calls of the Eurasian sparrowhawk (Accipter nisus) serving as a control, suggesting a significant intraspecific communication function for this call type. However, we did not find any evidence to support mate attraction in male calls, as females were not stimulated by playback of male calls compared with sparrowhawk calls in the control group. 相似文献

Apolipoprotein M (APOM), a novel apolipoprotein presented mostly in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma, is involved
in lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. Through comparative mapping, we have mapped this gene to SSC7 p1.1 in which many QTLs
affecting fat deposition traits have been reported. As a candidate gene for fat deposition traits, in this study, we obtained
the 742-bp mRNA sequence of porcine APOM including the full coding region and encoding a protein of 188 amino acids. The sequence
was deposited into the GenBank under the accession no. DQ329240. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR results showed that the porcine
APOM gene is expressed predominantly in liver and kidney tissue. The genomic sequence of this gene which contains six exons
and five introns, is 3,621 bp in length (DQ272488). Bioinformatic analysis of the 5′ regulatory region has revealed that classical
TATA-box element and species conserved Hepatocyte nuclear factor-1a (HNF-1α) biding site were represented in this region.
A G2289C single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the intron 2 of porcine APOM gene detected as an Eco130I PCR–restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR–RFLP) showed allele frequency differences among three purebreds. Association

The oxidative stress of heroin administered mice via intraperitoneal injection, and the therapeutic effects of exogenous antioxidants on the restrain of the oxidative damage of biomolecules and withdrawal syndrome were studied. After administered with heroin, mice showed decrease of total antioxidant capacity in blood, increase of reactive oxygen species production in white blood cells, and increase of oxidative damages of protein and lipid in brain and liver, but not in heart. On the other hand, exogenous antioxidants could restrain the oxidative stress, even alleviate withdrawal syndrome. 相似文献
