Objective
We aimed to investigate whether there is an association between male pattern baldness and angiographic coronary artery disease (CAD) severity and collateral development, which has not been reported previously.Methods
Coronary arteriograms, CAD risk factors, lipid parameters and presence and severity of baldness in 511 male patients were prospectively evaluated. Baldness was classified into five groups. Severity of CAD was evaluated with the Gensini scoring system and collateral development with Rentrop scores.Results
Although subjects with a higher Gensini score had more frequent and severe baldness, they were older than the group with lower Gensini scores. Bald patients had a higher Gensini score when compared with their non-bald counterparts. In univariate analysis, age more than 60, body mass index more than 30, smoking and baldness were predictors of high Gensini scores. In multivariate analysis, only age more than 60, body mass index more than 30 and smoking were independent predictors of a high Gensini score. There were no differences in terms of presence and severity of baldness in subjects with and without adequate collateral development.Conclusions
There was no relation between presence, severity and age of occurrence of male pattern baldness and Gensini and Rentrop scores, which are important measures of presence and severity of CAD. 相似文献2.
Increased oxidative stress can help promote carcinogenesis, including development of renal cell carcinoma. The enzyme protects low-density lipoproteins from oxidation and can be a factor in this process. PON1 Q192R and L55M paraoxonase gene polymorphisms were assessed in 60 renal cell carcinoma patients and 60 healthy controls. Genotypes were examined by PCR; the restriction enzyme AlwI was used to examine the Q192R polymorphism and Hsp92II for the L55M polymorphism. Significant differences in the PON1 Q192R polymorphism were found between patients and controls. The Q allele was more frequent in the patient group than in controls, while the R allele was more frequent in the control group. No significant differences were found in the L55M polymorphism. Additionally, there were no significant differences in L and M allele frequencies. We conclude that the R allele may protect against renal cell carcinoma. 相似文献

Zinc, which is involved in the structure of all enzyme classes, is a micro nutrient element and necessary for growth and development. The ability of zinc to function without causing toxic effects is depends on the protection of its homeostasis. Zinc transporter proteins are responsible for keeping zinc at certain concentrations. Based on their predicted membrane topology, Zn transporters are divided into two major families, SLC39s/ZIPs and SLC30s/ZnTs, which transport Zn in opposite directions through cellular and intracellular membranes. ZIPs increases the zinc concentration in the cytosol. For this, the ZIPs carries the zinc from extracellular and intracellular compartments to the cytosol. ZnTs, reduces the concentration of zinc in the cytosol. For this, ZnTs carries the zinc from the cytosol to extracellular and intracellular compartments. After being transported to the cell, 50% of the zinc is found in the cytoplasm, 30–40% in the nucleus, and 10% in the plasma and organelle membranes. The expression of many zinc transporter proteins in the cell is depending on the concentration of zinc and the physiological problems.
