Records of exotic turbellarian species found in Japan are reviewed from taxonomic and karyological viewpoints. Temnocephala minor Haswell, 1888, an ectocommensal on a freshwater crayfish of Australia, was found from culture ponds of Cherax tenuimanus (introduced from W. Australia) in Kagoshima Prefecture. T. minor had the chromosome number of 2x = 18 (2sm + 2m + 2m + 2sm + 2m + 2m + 2m + 2sm + 2m). The following 3 species of exotic freshwater triclads were recorded from tanks and ponds used for tropical fish culture: Dugesia austroasiatica Kawakatsu, 1985 (2x = 16), Dugesia tigrina (Girard, 1850) (2x = 16) and Rhodax? sp. (3x = 24; 3x = 24 &; 3x + 1LB + 1SB = 25 + 1SB). The following 3 species of exotic terrestrial triclads were recorded: Bipalium nobile Kawakatsu et Makino, 1982 (2x = 10), Bipalium kewense Moseley, 1878 (2x = 18), and Platydemus manokwari de Beauchamp, 1962 (n = 6, 2x = 12). An extensive occurrence of P. manokwari in the Southwest Islands of Japan may be due to an unexpected introduction of the animal in very recent years. 相似文献

The karyotypes of Dugesia japonica from the southern part of the Southwest Islands of Japan (the Nansei Shotô) include diploidy, triploidy, mixoploidy, and mixoaneuploidy. Animals having karyotypes based on n = 8 were found on Okinawa Island, Ishigaki Island, Iriomote Island, and Yonaguni Island, while animals having karyotypes based on n = 7 were found on Okinawa Island, Miyako Island, and Ishigaki Island. Toward the northern end of this island chain, at Tanegashima Island, Yakushima Island, and Amami-Ôshima Island, karyotypes based on n = 8 occurred; and on one of these, Tanegashima Island, n = 7 also occurred. Our data provide further support of the karyotypical distinction between the two subspecies of D. japonica: D. j. japonica has karyotypes based on n = 8 and D. j. ryukyuensis has karyotypes based on n = 7. Taking into consideration the geological history of the Southwest Islands and the ties of their faunas to those of adjacent areas, we can explain the current geographical distribution of the two subspecies in these islands as the result of two separate invasions by D. japonica, one in the Miocene and one after the early Quaternary. 相似文献

Membrane trafficking in male germ cells contributes to their development
via cell morphological changes and acrosome formation. TBC family
proteins work as Rab GTPase accelerating proteins (GAPs), which negatively regulate Rab
proteins, to mediate membrane trafficking. In this study, we analyzed the expression of a
Rab GAP, TBC1D9, in mouse organs and the intracellular localization of the gene products.
Tbc1d9 showed abundant expression in adult mice testis. We found that
the Tbc1d9 mRNA was expressed in primary and secondary spermatocytes, and
that the TBC1D9 protein was expressed in spermatocytes and round spermatids. In 293T
cells, TBC1D9-GFP proteins were localized in the endosome and Golgi apparatus.
Compartments that were positive for the constitutive active mutants of Rab7 and Rab9 were
also positive for TBC1D9 isoform 1. In addition, TBC1D9 proteins were associated with Rab7
and Rab9, respectively. These results indicate that TBC1D9 is expressed mainly in
spermatocytes, and suggest that TBC1D9 regulates membrane trafficking pathways related to

Euglena aquacobalamin reductase (NADPH: EC 1.6.99.-) was purified, and its subcellular distribution was studied to elucidate the mechanism of the conversion of hydroxocobalamin to 5'-deoxyadenosylcobalamin. The enzyme was found in the mitochondria. It was purified about 150-fold over the Euglena mitochondrial extract in a yield of 38%. The purified enzyme was homogeneous in polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Spectra of the purified enzyme showed that it was a flavoprotein. The molecular weight of the enzyme was calculated to be 66,000 by Sephadex G-100 gel filtration and 65,000 by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The enzyme was specific to NADPH with an apparent Km of 43 microM and to hydroxocobalamin with an apparent Km of 55 microM. The enzyme did not require FAD or FMN as a cofactor. We have employed a new scale for characterizing chromosomal forms in the karyotypes of four species of Bipalium from five localities in Japan. Specimens of Bipalium nobile Kawakatsu et Makino, 1982, from Yokohama had a diploid chromosome number of 2x = 10 (2m + 2sm + 2sm + st & sm + 2sm); specimens of the same species from Toyonaka had this number as well but with slightly different chromosomal form (2m + 2sm + sm & st + 2st + m & sm). An undescribed species from Sanjô, Bipalium sp. 2, with two dorsal stripes and a yellow head crescent, had 2x = 10 (2m + 2sm + 2sm + 2sm + 2m); and another undescribed species from Chichijima Island, Bipalium sp. 3, with five dorsal stripes, had 2x = 10 (2m + 2sm + 2sm + 2sm + 2m). Aims
Septic shock, the severe form of sepsis, is associated with development of progressive damage in multiple organs. Kidney can be injured and its functions altered by activation of coagulation, vasoactive-peptide and inflammatory processes in sepsis. Endothelin (ET)-1, a potent vasoconstrictor, is implicated in the pathogenesis of sepsis and its complications. Protease-activated receptors (PARs) are shown to play an important role in the interplay between inflammation and coagulation. We examined the time-dependent alterations of ET-1 and inflammatory cytokine, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α in kidney tissue in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced septic rat model and the effects of PAR2 blocking peptide on the LPS-induced elevations of renal ET-1 and TNF-α levels.Main methods
Male Wistar rats at 8 weeks of age were administered with either saline solution or LPS at different time points (1, 3, 6 and 10 h). Additionally, we treated LPS-administered rats with PAR2 blocking peptide for 3 h to assess whether blockade of PAR2 has a regulatory role on the ET-1 level in septic kidney.Key findings
An increase in ET-1 peptide level was observed in kidney tissue after LPS administration time-dependently. Levels of renal TNF-α peaked (around 12-fold) at 1 h of sepsis. Interestingly, PAR2 blocking peptide normalized the LPS-induced elevations of renal ET-1 and TNF-α levels.Significance

Non-mycorrhizal Brassica does not produce specialized root structures such as cluster or dauciform roots but is an effective user of P compared with other crops. In addition to P-uptake, utilization and remobilization activity, acquisition of orthophosphate (Pi) from extracellular sparingly P-sources or unavailable bound P-forms can be enhanced by biochemical rescue mechanisms such copious H+-efflux and/or carboxylates exudation into rhizosphere by roots via plasmalemma H+ ATPase and anion channels triggered by P-starvation. To visualize the dissolution of sparingly soluble Ca-phosphate (Ca-P), newly formed Ca-P was suspended in agar containing other essential nutrients. With NH4+ applied as the N source, the precipitate dissolved in the root vicinity can be ascribed to rhizosphere acidification, whereas no dissolution occurred with nitrate nutrition. To observe in situ rhizospheric pH changes, images were recorded after embedding the roots in agar containing bromocresol purple as a pH indicator. P-tolerant cultivar showed a greater decrease in pH than the sensitive cultivar in the culture media (the appearance of typical patterns of various colors of pH indicator in the root vicinity), and at stress P-level this acidification was more prominent. In experiment 2, low P-tolerant class-I cultivars (Oscar and Con-II) showed a greater decrease in solution media pH than low P-sensitive class-II (Gold Rush and RL-18) cultivars, and P-contents of the cultivars was inversely related to decrease in culture media pH. To elucidate P-stress- induced remodeling and redesigning in a root architectural system, cultivars were grown in rhizoboxes in experiment 3. The elongation rates of primary roots increased as P-supply increased, but the elongation rates of the branched zones of primary roots decreased. Nuclear protein antigens to the antinuclear antibodies in serum of non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice were investigated. In the serum of diabetic NOD female mice (20 weeks old), the antinuclear antibodies were detected by indirect immunofluorescence assay using frozen sections of liver of C 57 BL/6 J or NOD mice as antigen. Nuclei were separated from the liver of C 57 BL/6 J mice and solubilized. Solubilized nuclear antigens were analyzed by SDS PAGE-Western immunoblotting techniques. Nuclear protein antigens with molecular weights of 26,000, 32,000 and 65,000 showed strongly positive reactions with the antinuclear antibodies in the serum of the NOD mouse. 相似文献
