The toxicity of ochratoxin A (OTA), a mycotoxin produced by fungi ofAspergillus orPenicillium genera is now well documented. Its nephrotoxicity, immunosuppression, teratogenicity, and carcinogenicity have been widely studied. Physical and biochemical methods have been studied to prevent these toxinogenicAspergillus andPenicillium from producing OTA, and/or to destroy the mycotoxin when already produced in a liquid or a solid medium. Repeated freezing at ? 20?C and thawing at + 26?C aleatory reduce OTA production in a liquid medium. Exposure to UV B for different periods of time is efficient in preventing OTA production in a liquid medium. Gamma-irradiation from 2 to 5 kGy gives good results in preventing the production of OTA or destroying it when already produced. Carboxypeptidase is very efficient at 5 units/50 ml in a liquid medium for cleaving the OTA already produced.  相似文献

Aquaculture practices from sub-Saharan Africa are characterised by low production, owing to improper technology. Production can be increased through integrating fish farming with other existing on-farm activities, particularly livestock husbandry. We assessed the role of fish-poultry integration on all male Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus growth performance, yields and economic benefits among smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa, Tanzania. The study also compared phytoplankton species composition, abundance and biomass between the fish-poultry integration and non-integrated system. After 180 days of the experiment, all male O. niloticus cultured under fish-poultry integration exhibited significantly higher growth rates than those in the non-integrated system (p < 0.05). Gross fish yield (GFY), net fish yield (NFY) and net annual yields (NAY) obtained from fish-poultry integration were significantly higher than those from non-integrated system (p < 0.05). Partial enterprise budget analysis revealed that fish-poultry integration was more profitable than the non-integrated system. Moreover, fish-poultry integrated system produced significantly higher phytoplankton abundance and biomass than those from the non-integrated system. Results demonstrate that rural smallholder farmers can achieve higher growth rate, farm net yields and income by integrating all male O. niloticus with other on-farm activities than practising a stand-alone fish culture system.  相似文献

This study demonstrates the presence of a relatively extensive but previously unrecognized nervous system in embryonic stages of the opisthobranch mollusc Aplysia californica. During the trochophore stage, two pairs of cells were observed to be reactive to antibodies raised against the neuropeptides FMRFamide and EFLRIamide. These cells were located in the posterior region of the embryo, and their anterior projections terminated under the apical tuft. As the embryos developed into veliger stages, serotonin-like immunoreactive (LIR) cells appeared in the apical organ and were later observed to innervate the velum. Also, aldehyde-induced fluorescence indicative of catecholamines was present in cells in the foot, oral, and possibly apical regions during late embryonic veliger stages. Just before the embryo hatches as a free-swimming veliger, additional FMRFamide-LIR and catecholamine-containing cells appeared in regions that correspond to the ganglia of what will become the adult central nervous system (CNS). Neurons and connectives that will contribute to the adult CNS appear to develop along the pathways that are pioneered by the earliest posterior FMRFamide-LIR cells. These observations are consistent with the hypothesis that, besides their presumed roles in the control of embryonic behaviors, some elements may also guide the development of the CNS. Embryonic nervous systems that develop prior to and outside of the adult CNS have also been reported in pulmonate and prosobranch species of molluscs. Therefore, the demonstration of early developing neurons and their transmitter phenotypes in A. californica presents new opportunities for a better understanding of the ontogeny and phylogeny of both behavioral and neuronal function in this important model species.  相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships of mangabeys within the Old World monkey tribe Papionini are inferred from analyses of nuclear DNA sequences from five unlinked loci. The following conclusions are strongly supported, based on congruence among trees derived for the five separate gene regions: (1) mangabeys are polyphyletic within the Papionini; (2) Cercocebus is the sister taxon to the genus Mandrillus; and (3) Lophocebus belongs to a clade with Papio and Theropithecus, with Papio as its most likely sister taxon. Morphologically based phylogenies positing mangabey monophyly were evaluated by mapping the sequences for each locus on these trees. The data seem to fit these trees poorly in both maximum-parsimony and likelihood analyses. Incongruence among nuclear gene trees occurred in the interrelationships among Lophocebus, Papio, and Theropithecus. Several factors that may account for this incongruence are discussed, including sampling error, random lineage sorting, and introgression.   相似文献

Chlorpromazine causes distinct defects in normal development of early cleaving embryos of gastropod pond snail (Lymnaea stagnalis L.) and teleost Eurasian weather loach (Misgurnus fossilis L.): a decrease in blastomere contact surfaces following the rounding in gastropod embryo and a reduction of cleaving blastodisk surface in teleost. Right after the application of chlorpromazine fluorescence is visible as bright spots on the surface of blastomeres. Then spherical vesicles appear within the whole volume of the cells. In loach, association of chlorpromazine with the plasma membrane was observed in blastodisk but not in the yolk cell membrane. Electron microscopy has shown that chlorpromazine induces folding of the cell membrane. Experiments with fluorescent dextran probe demonstrate that chlorpromazine modifies the rate and character of the dextran uptake. Our results indicate that chlorpromazine binds to specific sites of plasmalemma and stimulates endocytosis. Patterns of chlorpromazine binding to the membrane and its effects on endocytosis are similar in teleost and gastropod.  相似文献

Dinophilus gyrociliatus is a typical representative of the synthetic group Archiannelida. Here we describe the structure of Dinophilus young adults ventral nerve cords. Five nerve cords, irregular commissures and intersegmental nerves are revealed by tubulin and FMRFamide immunostaining. 5-HT-stainning marks the complex varicose nerve plexus with numerous irregularly distributed small perikarya. Four nerve cords and solitary cell bodies occur after clyoxylic-induced reaction for catecholamines visualization. Altogether, our results indicated that morphology of Dinophilus ventral nerve cords differs from the Polychaetes archetype in many respects.  相似文献

Serotonin (5-HT) is known to induce a wide range of short-term and long-term (or delayed) effects. In the present paper we demonstrated that short time-window application of the 5-HT precursor 5-hydroxytryptophan during early cleavage stages results in both irreversible morphological malformation (exogastrulation) and distinct changes in behavior of young animals of the freshwater snail, Lymnaea stagnalis (Mollusca: Gastropoda). Pharmacological and immunocytochemical analysis confirmed that both the increase of intracellular 5-HT level within the cleaved blastomers and activation of membrane 5-HT2-like type receptors are required for the appearence of these phenomena.  相似文献

Freshwater pond snails Helisoma trivolvis and Lymnaea stagnalis undergo larval development and metamorphosis inside egg capsules. We report that their development is permanently under slight tonic inhibitory influence of the anterior sensory monoaminergic neurones, which are the remnants of the apical sensory organ. Conspecific juvenile snails, when reared under conditions of starvation and crowding, release chemical signals that are detected by these neurones in encapsulated larvae and reversibly suppress larval development, thus providing a link between environmental signals and developmental regulation. Induced retardation starts from the trochophore stage and results in up to twofold prolongation of the larval lifespan. Upon stimulation with the signal, the neurones increase synthesis and release of monoamines [serotonin (5-HT) in Helisoma and dopamine in Lymnaea] that inhibit larval development acting via ergometrine-sensitive internal receptors. Thus, the novel regulatory mechanism in larval development of molluscs is suggested and compared with the phenomenon of dauer larvae formation in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.  相似文献

Background

Placental syncytiotrophoblast microvesicles (STBM) are shed into the maternal circulation during normal pregnancy. STBM circulate in significantly increased amounts in preeclampsia (PE) and are considered to be among contributors to the exaggerated proinflammatory, procoagulant state of PE. However, protein composition of STBM in normal pregnancy and PE remains unknown. We therefore sought to determine the protein components of STBM and whether STBM protein expressions differ in preeclamptic and normal pregnancies.Patients with PE (n = 3) and normal pregnant controls (n = 6) were recruited. STBM were prepared from placental explant culture supernatant. STBM proteins were analyzed by a combination of 1D Gel-LC-MS/MS. Protein expressions levels were quantified using spectral counts and validated by immunohistochemistry.

Results

Over 400 proteins were identified in the STBM samples. Among these, 25 proteins were found to be differentially expressed in preeclampsia compared to healthy pregnant controls, including integrins, annexins and histones.

Conclusion

STBM proteins include those that are implicated in immune response, coagulation, oxidative stress, apoptosis as well as lipid metabolism pathways. Differential protein expressions of STBM suggest their pathophysiological relevance in PE.
