The apparent conductance (Kss, in W.m-2.degrees C-1) of a given region of superficial shell (on the thigh, fat + skin) was determined on four nonsweating and nonshivering subjects, resting and exercising (200 W) in water [water temperature (Tw) 22-23 degrees C] Kss = Hss/(Tsf-Tsk) where Hss is the skin-to-water heat flow directly measured by heat flow transducers and Tsf and Tsk are the temperatures of the subcutaneous fat at a known depth below the skin surface and of the skin surface, respectively. The convective heat flow (qc) through the superficial shell was then estimated as qc = (Tsf - Tsk).(Kss - Kss,min), assuming that at rest Kss was minimal (Kss,min) and resting qc = 0. The duration of immersion was set to allow rectal temperature (Tre) to reach approximately 37 degrees C at the end of rest and approximately 38 degrees C at the end of exercise. Except at the highest Tw used, Kss at the start of exercise was always Kss,min and averaged 51 W.m-2.degrees C-1 (range 33-57 W.m-2.degrees C-1) across subjects, and qc was zero. At the end of exercise at the highest Tw used for each subject, Kss averaged 97 W.m-2.degrees C-1 (range 77-108 W.m-2.degrees C-1) and qc averaged 53% (range 48-61%) of Hss (mean Hss = 233 W.m-2).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Muscular sound and force relationship during isometric contraction in man   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The contracting muscle generates a low frequency sound detectable at the belly surface, ranging from 11 to 40 Hz. To study the relationship between the muscular sound and the intensity of the contraction a sound myogram (SMG) was recorded by a contact sensor from the biceps brachii of seven young healthy males performing 4-s isometric contractions from 10% to 100% of the maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), in 10% steps. Simultaneously, the electromyogram (EMG) was recorded as an index of muscle activity. SMG and EMG were integrated by conventional methods (iSMG and iEMG). The relationship between iSMG and iEMG vs MVC% is described by parabolic functions up to 80% and 100% MVC respectively. Beyond 80% MVC the iSMG decreases, being about half of its maximal value at 100% MVC. Our results indicate that the motor unit recruitment and firing rate affect the iSMG and iEMG in the same way up to 80% MVC. From 80% to 100% MVC the high motor units' discharge rate and the muscular stiffness together limit the pressure waves generated by the dimensional changes of the active fibres. The muscular sound seems to reflect the intramuscular visco-elastic characteristics and the motor unit activation pattern of a contracting muscle.  相似文献

The time course of heart rate (HR) and venous blood norepinephrine concentration [NE], as an expression of the sympathetic nervous activity (SNA), was studied in six sedentary young men during recovery from three periods of cycle ergometer exercise at 21% +/- 2.8%, 43% +/- 2.1% and 65% +/- 2.3% of VO2max respectively (mean +/- SE). The HR decreased mono-exponentially with tau values of 13.6 +/- 1.6 s, 32.7 +/- 5.6 s and 55.8 +/- 8.1 s respectively in the three periods of exercise. At the low exercise level no change in [NE] was found. At medium and high exercise intensity: (a) [NE] increased significantly at the 5th min of exercise (delta [NE] = 207.7 +/- 22.5 pg.ml-1 and 521.3 +/- 58.3 pg.ml-1 respectively); (b) after a time lag of 1 min [NE] decreased exponentially (tau = 87 s and 101 s respectively); (c) in the 1st min HR decreased about 35 beats.min-1; (d) from the 2nd to 5th min of recovery HR and [NE] were linearly related (100 pg.ml-1 delta [NE] congruent to 5 beats.min-1). In the 1st min of recovery, independent of the exercise intensity, the adjustment of HR appears to have been due mainly to the prompt restoration of vagal tone. The further decrease in HR toward the resting value could then be attributed to the return of SNA to the pre-exercise level.  相似文献

Physiological profile of world-class high-altitude climbers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The functional characteristics of six world-class high-altitude mountaineers were assessed 2-12 mo after the last high-altitude climb. Each climber on one or several occasions had reached altitudes of 8,500 m or above without supplementary O2. Static and dynamic lung volumes and right and left echocardiographic measurements were found to be within normal limits of sedentary controls (SC). Muscle fiber distribution was 70% type I, 22% type IIa, and 7% type IIb. Mean muscle fiber cross-sectional area was significantly smaller than that of SC (-15%) and of long-distance runners (LDR, -51%). The number of capillaries per unit cross-sectional area was significantly greater than that of SC (+ 40%). Total mitochondrial volume was not significantly different from that of SC, but its subsarcolemmal component was equal to that of LDR. Average maximal O2 consumption was 60 +/- 6 ml X kg-1 X min-1, which is between the values of SC and LDR. Average maximal anaerobic power was 28 +/- 2.5 W X kg-1, which is equal to that of SC and 40% lower that that of competitive high jumpers. All subjects were characterized by resting hyperventilation both in normoxia and in moderate (inspired O2 partial pressure = 77 Torr) hypoxia resulting in higher oxyhemoglobin saturation levels in hypoxia. The ventilatory response to four tidal volumes of pure O2 was similar to that of SC. It is concluded that elite high-altitude climbers do not have physiological adaptations to high altitude that justify their unique performance.  相似文献

Muscle surface displacement is a mechanical event taking place simultaneously with the tension generation at the tendon. The two phenomena can be studied by the surface mechanomyogram signal (MMG) (produced by a laser distance sensor) and the force signal (from a load cell). The aim of this paper was to provide data on the reliability of the laser detected MMG in muscle mechanics research. To this purpose it was verified if the laser detected MMG was suitable to estimate a frequency response in the cat medial gastrocnemius and its frequency response was compared with the one retrieved by the force signal at the tendon level. The force and MMG from the exposed medial gastrocnemius of four cats were analysed. The frequency response was investigated by sinusoidally changing the number of orderly recruited motor units, in different trials, in the 0.4-6 Hz range. It resulted that it was possible to model the force and MMG frequency response by a critically damped second-order system with two real double poles and a pure time delay. On the average, the poles were at 1.83 Hz (with 22.6 ms delay) and at 2.75 Hz (with 38 ms delay) for force and MMG, respectively. It can be concluded that MMG appears to be a reliable tool to investigate the muscle frequency response during stimulated isometric contraction. Even though not statistically significant. the differences in the second-order system parameters suggest that different components of the muscle mechanical model may specifically affect the force or MMG.  相似文献

Understanding the relationship between physical exercise, reactive oxygen species and skeletal muscle modification is important in order to better identify the benefits or the damages that appropriate or inappropriate exercise can induce. Unbalanced ROS levels can lead to oxidation of cellular macromolecules and a major class of protein oxidative modification is carbonylation. The aim of this investigation was to study muscle protein expression and carbonylation patterns in trained and untrained animal models. We analyzed two muscles characterized by different metabolisms: tibialis anterior and soleus. Whilst tibialis anterior is mostly composed of fast-twitch fibers, the soleus muscle is mostly composed of slow-twitch fibers. By a proteomic approach we identified 15 protein spots whose expression is influenced by training. Among them in tibialis anterior we observed a down-regulation of several glycolitic enzymes. Concerning carbonylation, we observed the existence of a high basal level of protein carbonylation. Although this level shows some variation among individual animals, several proteins (mostly involved in energy metabolism, muscle contraction, and stress response) appear carbonylated in all animals and in both types of skeletal muscle. Moreover we identified 13 spots whose carbonylation increases after training.  相似文献

Peripheral fatigue and muscle cooling induce similar effects on sarcolemmal propagation properties. The aim of the study was to assess the combined effects of muscle temperature (Tm) manipulation and fatigue on skeletal muscle electrical and mechanical characteristics during isometric contraction. After maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) assessment, 16 participants performed brief and sustained isometric tasks of different intensities in low (Tm(L)), high (Tm(H)) and neutral (Tm(N)) temperature conditions, before and after a fatiguing exercise (6s on/4s off at 50% MVC, to the point of fatigue). During contraction, the surface electromyogram (EMG) and force were recorded from the biceps brachii muscle. The root mean square (RMS) and conduction velocity (CV) were calculated off-line. After the fatiguing exercise: (i) MVC decreased similarly in all Tm conditions (P<0.05), while EMG RMS did not change; and (ii) CV decreased to a further extent in Tm(L) compared to Tm(N) and Tm(H) in all brief and sustained contractions (P<0.05). The larger CV drop in Tm(L) after fatigue suggests that Tm(L) and fatigue have a combined and additional effect on sarcolemmal propagation properties. Despite these changes, force generating capacity was not affected by Tm manipulation. A compensatory mechanism has been proposed to explain this phenomenon.  相似文献

Myotendinous junctions can be easily injured by overloading or trauma, and exercise training may be a way of increasing their resistance to mechanical stress. To this end, we examined herein the morphological changes induced by moderate exercise training in the myotendinous junctions of extensor digitorum longus and gastrocnemius muscles in rats. Twelve Sprague-Dawley rats were used in this investigation. Six of them were trained to run on a treadmill for 1 h/day, 3 days/week over 10 weeks in order for them to achieve a running rate of 25 m/min at the end of the training period. Six age-matched sedentary rats were used as controls. The rats were sacrificed 24 h after the final training session, and the extensor digitorum longum (EDL) and the gastrocnemium were excised; the myotendinous junctions (MTJ) were then prepared and observed with electron microscopy. Digitation branching was evaluated by counting the bifurcations in the MTJ protrusions. Our observations indicate that exercise does indeed induce changes in MTJ morphology. In both muscles the number of bifurcated interdigitations increased significantly, as well as, in gastrocnemius, the branching of the finger-like processes. It was demonstrated that the MTJ is able to adapt to an increase in tensile force by enlarging the muscle-tendon contact area and, consequently, mechanical resistance.  相似文献

Enhanced angiogenesis, or capillary growth, has a prominent role among the various beneficial effects of exercise training on the myocardium. The aim of the present study is to assess if training-induced increases in capillarity and vascularization persist after 4 weeks of detraining. Adult male rats were trained to run on a treadmill for 10 weeks at ∼60% VO2max, which did not induce cardiac hypertrophy, but increased (P < 0.05) the soleus/body weight ratio, left ventricle capillarity and von Willebrand-positive cell density (n = 6). In another group of animals (n = 6) subjected to training followed by 4-week detraining, the soleus/body weight ratio returned to normal, with only partial reversal of left ventricle capillarity and von Willebrand-positive cell density. Markers of angiogenesis (VEGF, KDR/VEGF-R2 and HIF-1α mRNA, studied by real-time RT-PCR) were upregulated at the end of training, and returned to baseline value after detraining. Electron microscopy highlighted some morphological features in trained hearts (endothelial cell sprouting and bridges and pericyte detachment), suggestive of endothelial cell proliferation and capillary growth that were absent in untrained and detrained hearts. We conclude that the training-induced increase in cardiac capillarity and vascularization are retained for some time upon cessation of the training program even in the absence of angiogenic stimuli.  相似文献
