The development of the epidemic process and the formation of humoral immunity to the hepatitis A virus in adolescent collectives

Additional observation on the formation of humoral immunity to hepatitis A virus has been carried out in 2,375 adolescents aged 15-17 years and belonging to 12 groups at 3 areas of the USSR. This observation has shown that in the presence of a high level of the immune stratum the spread of infection occurs, as a rule, outside the group under observation. Besides, as revealed in this study, the risk of seroconversion and the loss of specific antibodies are, respectively, directly and inversely related to the level of the immune stratum in the group. The level of the immune stratum in a given age group supposedly reflects the intensity of the development of the epidemic process at a definite area.     

Immunological diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumonias]

A complex of immunological cell tests with M. pneumoniae antigen (the lymphocyte blast-cell transformation test, the allergic neutrophil alteration test) was carried out in order to establish the correlation between the results of positive seroconversion and the sepcific immunological reactivity of lymphoid cells in pneumonia patients. Mycoplasmic cutireactive allergen, when used for the accelerated diagnosis of mycoplasmic pneumonia in humans, was shown to be specific and safe. Cuti-allergic tests with mycoplasmic allergen allowed to diagnose mycoplasmic pneumonia at early stages (beginning from days 5--7), which ensures the possibility of indicating etiotropic treatment to patients in due time.     

Role of intracortical inhibition in forming homo- and heterosensory interaction in sensorimotor cortex neurons in kittens

Homo- and heterosensory interaction were investigated in sensorimotor cortex neurons before and after picrotoxin application to anesthetized and immobilized kittens belonging to three age groups (12–30 days, 31–47 days, and 2–4 months old). Only slight inhibition of response to presentation of a second stimulus was observed in a small proportion of cells in the youngest age group at test intervals of 100, 200, and 300 msec. Picrotoxin application only produced the effect of raised background activity. Numbers of neurons with partially or fully inhibited response to test stimuli (especially spaced at 100 msec intervals) rose in the middle and older age groups. The dynamics of heterosensory interaction and how this is affected by picrotoxin application gradually approximated to that observed with adult animals. The subject of the development of inhibitory mechanisms and how they contribute to the organization of homo- and heterosensory interaction during early postnatal ontogenesis is considered in the light of the results obtained.A. Characteristics of the mutagenic and toxic effects of ethylene imine and its oligomers. Comparative study in the automated SOS-chromotest system and in standard bacterial test systems

Raising total positive charge of a chemical mutagen does increase its local concentration in the area of biological target-DNA, and, as a consequence, causes increase in the rate of interaction of a mutagen with the target. Experimental evidence of this idea has been obtained in three test systems: the Ames test, Trp+ reversions in Escherichia coli WP2 and in the automated "SOS-chromotest" system with E. coli PQ 37 ("Labsystems", Finland).     

Modification of the genetic effect of N-nitrosoethylurea in inbred mice by para-aminobenzoic acid

The ability of para-aminobenzoic acid--vitamin (PABA) to influence the sensitivity of mice to alkylating mutagens was studied. PABA had no influence on the cytogenetic effect of thio-TEPA. It was determined that PABA altered the effect of N-ethyl nitrosourea (ENU). The direction of modification depends on animal genotype: pre-treatment with PABA decreases the frequency of chromosome aberrations in bone marrow cells of CBA/LacY and C57BL/JY mice, but significantly increases it in 101/HY mice. The PABA influence on the frequency of gene mutations induced by ENU in melanocytes of mice and revealed by "spot-test" was not determined.     

Mechanism of circulatory disorders in animals irradiated at high doses

Some data are reported on pathoanatomical changes, a status of the microcirculatory channel and the coagulogram of animals affected by high doses of ionizing radiation. The signs of disseminated intravascular blood coagulation have been revealed. The authors discuss the relationship between clinical manifestations with coagulopathy development and circulatory disturbances during intestinal and cerebral forms of acute radiation sickness.     

慢性心功能不全大鼠心脏和血淋巴细胞β-肾上腺素受体的改变

在主动脉与肾动脉缩窄造成的慢性心功能不全大鼠,血浆儿茶酚胺浓度增高;心脏β-肾上腺素受体(β-AR)数量增加,其中β_1-AR及其mRNA增加,而β_2-AR及其mRNA不变;左心房异丙基肾上腺素(ISO)浓度-收缩效应曲线右移;而心肌ISO浓度-cAMP蓄积曲线无显著改变;血淋巴细胞β-AR数量显著减少.结果提示心功能不全时心脏β_1-AR数量增多,但其介导的正性变力效应反而降低,在cAMP生成以后的信号转导过程或心肌收缩成分功能存在障碍,而血淋巴细胞β-AR的改变与心脏β-AR的功能改变平行.
