Summary The forest annual, Amphicarpaea bracteata L. can reproduce via aerial chasmogamous, aerial cleistogamous, and subterranean cleistogamous flowers. Both plant size and light intensity influenced the utilization of the three modes of reproduction. chasmogamous and aerial cleistogamous flower number and the ratio of chasmogamous flowers to the total number of aerial flowers increased with plant size. The latter demonstrated a shift to xenogamy and outbreeding in larger plants. Light intensity indirectly influenced reproductive modes through its infuence on plant size. Seed set by both types of aerial flowers was low and unrelated to plant size. Subterranean seed number and the total dry weight of subterranean seeds per plant increased with size. The subterranean seeds of Amphicarpaea bracteata are thirty-four times larger than the aerial seeds (fresh weight). Under field conditions, subterranean seeds had greater germination after one year than acrial seeds. The plants arising from subterranean seeds were significantly larger and more fecund than those from aerial seeds. Seeds produced by aerial cleistogamous, hand selfpollinated chasmogamous, and naturally pollinated chasmogamous flowers had equivalent germination rates and produced plants of equal size and fecundity. This suggests that the outbred progeny from chasmogamous flowers have no advantage over the inbred progeny from aerial cleistogamous flowers.  相似文献

The therapeutic use of a high-pressure oxygen atmosphere is of current research interest. Accounts of this means of treatment have come mainly from Amsterdam and Glasgow, but also from the United States. Reports indicate its value in treatment of coronary artery disease, severe shock, cerebral vascular accidents, gangrene, infections, carbon monoxide poisoning and bowel infarction. Hyaline membrane disease responds dramatically. The treatment has demonstrated value in conjunction with the operation of heart-lung machines, for patients with severe injuries of the extremities where blood supply is impaired, and in the treatment of rest pain in ischemic limbs. Converted hospital autoclaves have been used as an inexpensive means of initiating research projects in this field. One American supplier already has orders for construction of eight high-pressure oxygen treatment tanks in U.S. centres.  相似文献

Enantiomerization of allylic trifluoromethyl sulfoxides occurs spontaneously at room temperature through the corresponding allylic trifluoromethanesulfenates via a [2,3]‐sigmatropic rearrangement. Dynamic enantioselective high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis revealed the stereodynamics of these sulfoxides ranging from chromatographic resolution to peak coalescence at temperatures between 5 and 53 °C. The rate constant of enantiomerization and activation parameters were determined and compared with Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. Chirality plays a pivotal role in an uncountable number of biological processes, and nature has developed intriguing mechanisms to maintain this state of enantiopurity. The strive for a deeper understanding of the different elements that constitute such self‐sustaining systems on a molecular level has sparked great interest in the studies of autoinductive and amplifying enantioselective reactions. The design of these reactions remains highly challenging; however, the development of generally applicable principles promises to have a considerable impact on research of catalyst design and other adjacent fields in the future. Here, we report the realization of an autoinductive, enantioselective self‐inhibiting hydrogenation reaction. Development of a stereodynamic catalyst with chiral sensing abilities allowed for a chiral reaction product to interact with the catalyst and change its selectivity in order to suppress its formation, which caused a reversal of selectivity over time.  相似文献

We screened a Fusarium sporotrichioides NRRL 3299 cDNA expression library in a toxin-sensitive Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain lacking a functional PDR5 gene. Fourteen yeast transformants were identified as resistant to the trichothecene 4,15-diacetoxyscirpenol, and each carried a cDNA encoding the trichothecene 3-O-acetyltransferase that is the F. sporotrichioides homolog of the Fusarium graminearum TRI101 gene. Mutants of F. sporotrichioides NRRL 3299 produced by disruption of TRI101 were altered in their abilities to synthesize T-2 toxin and accumulated isotrichodermol and small amounts of 3, 15-didecalonectrin and 3-decalonectrin, trichothecenes that are not observed in cultures of the parent strain. Our results indicate that TRI101 converts isotrichodermol to isotrichodermin and is required for the biosynthesis of T-2 toxin.  相似文献

Electrokinetic chromatography was employed to separate the enantiomers of two novel functionalized ruthenium(II) complexes with different polypyridyl coordination spheres. The use of anionic carboxymethyl-beta-cyclodextrin as chiral mobile phase additive resulted in maximum efficiency and resolution for the enantiomer separation of both transition metal complexes. The syntheses of the [4-(3-hydroxypropyl)-4'-methyl-2,2'-bipyridine]-bis(2,2'-bipyridine)rethenium(II)-bis(tetrafluoroborate) and [4-(3-hydroxypropyl)-4'-methyl-2,2'-bipyridine]-bis(4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-bypyridine)ruthenium(II)-bis(tetrafluoroborate) complexes and their complete characterization by means of two-dimensional (1)H and (13)C[(1)H] NMR techniques ((1)H-(1)H COSY and (1)H-(13)C HMQC) as well as elemental analyses and MALDI-TOFMS are described in detail. The functionalized complexes can be used as building blocks for further reactions with polymers, biopolymers, surfaces and nanoparticles.  相似文献

The mechanisms of Ca(2+) release from intracellular stores in CNS white matter remain undefined. In rat dorsal columns, electrophysiological recordings showed that in vitro ischemia caused severe injury, which persisted after removal of extracellular Ca(2+); Ca(2+) imaging confirmed that an axoplasmic Ca(2+) rise persisted in Ca(2+)-free perfusate. However, depletion of Ca(2+) stores or reduction of ischemic depolarization (low Na(+), TTX) were protective, but only in Ca(2+)-free bath. Ryanodine or blockers of L-type Ca(2+) channel voltage sensors (nimodipine, diltiazem, but not Cd(2+)) were also protective in zero Ca(2+), but their effects were not additive with ryanodine. Immunoprecipitation revealed an association between L-type Ca(2+) channels and RyRs, and immunohistochemistry confirmed colocalization of Ca(2+) channels and RyR clusters on axons. Similar to "excitation-contraction coupling" in skeletal muscle, these results indicate a functional coupling whereby depolarization sensed by L-type Ca(2+) channels activates RyRs, thus releasing damaging amounts of Ca(2+) under pathological conditions in white matter.  相似文献

This report investigated mechanisms responsible for failed Schwann cell myelination in mice that overexpress P(0) (P(0)(tg)), the major structural protein of PNS myelin. Quantitative ultrastructural immunocytochemistry established that P(0) protein was mistargeted to abaxonal, periaxonal, and mesaxon membranes in P(0)(tg) Schwann cells with arrested myelination. The extracellular leaflets of P(0)-containing mesaxon membranes were closely apposed with periodicities of compact myelin. The myelin-associated glycoprotein was appropriately sorted in the Golgi apparatus and targeted to periaxonal membranes. In adult mice, occasional Schwann cells myelinated axons possibly with the aid of endocytic removal of mistargeted P(0). These results indicate that P(0) gene multiplication causes P(0) mistargeting to mesaxon membranes, and through obligate P(0) homophilic adhesion, renders these dynamic membranes inert and halts myelination.  相似文献
