The peptide nature of the posture asymmetry factor (PAF) produced in the brain after unilateral removal of the motor region of the neocortex was established. The inactivation of PAF activity in the brain toward the end of the third week after the removal is due to PAF inactivation by the endogenous factor absent from the intact brain. The molecular weight of the inactivation factor exceeds 5.0 kD that makes it possible to separate it from the PAF by gel filtration on Sephadex G-25. The correlation was marked between the increasing activity of the PAF inactivation factor and the recovery of the initial symmetric functioning of the spinal centers during three weeks after unilateral damage to the CNS.  相似文献

The beet webworm, Loxostege sticticalis L., is a very dangerous polyphagous insect pest whose outbreaks periodically occur in southern Russia and northern China. The aim of our work was to describe the photoperiodic response of beet webworm populations from western (Krasnodar Territory and Rostov Province) and eastern [Buryatia and China (Hebei Province)] parts of the pest range. The insects were reared under constant photoperiods of 12–18 h and constant temperatures of 19–25°C. Incidence of diapause at different photoperiods did not show any considerable geographic differences, and the critical day length at which 50% of prepupae arrested their development was about 14–15 h in all the populations studied at experimental temperatures. The results obtained agree with the hypothesis on the existence of an area (or areas) where the pest survives during adverse periods and wherefrom it spreads when an outbreak begins (Saulich et al., 1983; Goryshin et al., 1986). Presumably, the larger part of the pest native habitats (to the north of the steppe zone) is occupied by temporary populations, incapable of surviving for long periods without an inflow of migrants from more southerly steppe regions.  相似文献

Microsporidia (M) is a phylum of protists parasitizing obligatory in animal cells. Long way of adaptation of M to intracellular parasitism resulted in establishment of quite close relationships between the parasite and its host. Different species of M induce in their hosts symptoms similar to those caused by misbalance of juvenile hormone (JH) and ecdysone. M infection leads to pathology of different hormone-dependent functions such as cell differentiation and specialization, molting, metamorphosis, diapause and reproduction of insects. The signs of hormonal dysfunction evidence for elevated titer of JH in M-infected insects. Two possible explanation of this could be offered: JH secretion by M or specific influence of the parasites on the insect endocrine systems. Impact on insect endogenous JH titer by M could be mediated by affection of secretory activity of corpora allata or by suppression of enzymatic degradation of JH. According to different hypotheses, insect hormonal status during microsporidiosis could be modified by a) insect host stress-reaction, b) exhaustion of insect host reserves, characteristic for acute phase of the disease, c) destruction of infected insect cells and tissues during mass sporogenesis of M. Data found in literature and provided by our experiments evidence for presence of JH analogues or juvenilizing substance in the extracts of M spores. From detailed examination of pathological process it is also seen that juvenilizing effect of M infection is usually restricted to the invaded regions of tissues (i.e. expressed locally) but not a systemic one. Ability of M to modify morpho-functional features of infected tissues at the level of hormonal regulation is undoubtfully a prominent adaptation for stabilizing "microsporidia-insect" parasite-host systems.  相似文献

To study natural polymorphism, pollen grains should be collected from ecologically clean sites. Taking the ecological conditions at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century as more favorable than the modern state, herbarium material (LE) was examined. In addition to typical (normally developed) pollen grains, we found two more morphological types within the range of natural polymorphism of pollen grains of Acer tataricum L. that were produced at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century.  相似文献

Injury-induced bleeding is stopped by a hemostatic plug formation that is controlled by a complex nonlinear and spatially heterogeneous biochemical network of proteolytic enzymes called blood coagulation. We studied spatial dynamics of thrombin, the central enzyme of this network, by developing a fluorogenic substrate-based method for time- and space-resolved imaging of thrombin enzymatic activity. Clotting stimulation by immobilized tissue factor induced localized thrombin activity impulse that propagated in space and possessed all characteristic traits of a traveling excitation wave: constant spatial velocity, constant amplitude, and insensitivity to the initial stimulation once it exceeded activation threshold. The parameters of this traveling wave were controlled by the availability of phospholipids or platelets, and the wave did not form in plasmas from hemophilia A or C patients who lack factors VIII and XI, which are mediators of the two principal positive feedbacks of coagulation. Stimulation of the negative feedback of the protein C pathway with thrombomodulin produced nonstationary patterns of wave formation followed by deceleration and annihilation. This indicates that blood can function as an excitable medium that conducts traveling waves of coagulation.  相似文献

The Vpu protein of HIV-1 antagonizes BST-2 (tetherin), a broad spectrum effector of the innate immune response to viral infection, by an intermolecular interaction that maps genetically to the α-helical transmembrane domains (TMDs) of each protein. Here we utilize NMR spectroscopy to describe key features of the helix-helix pairing that underlies this interaction. The antagonism of BST-2 involves a sequence of three alanines and a tryptophan spaced at four residue intervals within the Vpu TMD helix. Responsiveness to Vpu involves bulky hydrophobic residues in the C-terminal region of the BST-2 TMD helix that likely fit between the alanines on the interactive face of Vpu. These aspects of Vpu and BST-2 form an anti-parallel, lipid-embedded helix-helix interface. Changes in human BST-2 that mimic sequences found in nonhuman primate orthologs unresponsive to Vpu change the tilt angle of the TMD in the lipid bilayer without abrogating its intrinsic ability to interact with Vpu. These data explain the mechanism by which HIV-1 evades a key aspect of innate immunity and the species specificity of Vpu using an anti-parallel helix-helix packing model.  相似文献

The chemical factors of the postural asymmetry (FPA) were studied on the recipients without hemispheres. The structural specificity of the fore and hind limb spinal centers regulation in normal and damaged CNS was observed. In the normal CNS this structural specificity was displayed in the selective activation of the cross-situated hemicenters in the cervical and lumbal regions (for example in the left part of the cervical and in the right part of the lumbal region). In the case of the unilateral lesion of the central motor systems the normal pattern of chemical structural specificity was modified by activation of FPA selectively acting on the partly denervated regions of the spinal cord.  相似文献
