A variety of interactions was recorded in culture between 11 saprobic fungi isolated from soybean (Glycine max) roots and seeds and the soybean pathogens Cercospora sojina, Colletotrichum truncatum, Macrophomina phaseolina, Phomopsis sojae, and Septoria glycines. The most active saprobes were Aspergillus terreus, Chaetomium cupreum, Epicoccum nigrum, Gliocladium roseum, Myrothecium roridum, Penicillium thomii, and Trichothecium roseum. Hyphal lysis of several fungal pathogens by Acremonium sp., C. cupreum and P. thomii was recorded perhaps because of parasitism by G. roseum and T. roseum. In greenhouse studies, seeds coated with G. roseum, P. thomii, and T. harzianum emerged significantly (P=0.05) more than those coated with A. terreus and the control. In field studies, seeds coated with a conidial suspension of A. terreus, G. roseum, P. thomii or Trichoderma harzianum produced a significantly greater stand than the control. The area of cotyledons covered with lesions caused by C. truncatum was significantly less on seeds coated with G. roseum, P. thomii and T. harzianum than the control. 相似文献
The absorptivity of the leaves at all the wavelengths decreased whereas the reflectivity and transmissivity increased when
an alpine perennial herb, Selinum vaginatum was grown at lower (550 m) elevation. The lower elevation climate modified leaves
to absorb comparatively less near-infrared radiation as compared to that under natural habitat. The lower altitude habitat
had a positive effect on infinite reflectance and a negative effect on absorption and scattering coefficients of the leaves.
Based on the scattering and absorption coefficients for upper and lower leaf surfaces, the ‘sieve’ and ‘detour’ effect factors
were estimated. These factors indicate that while ‘sieve-effect’ increases the ‘detour-effect’ decreases when this plant is
grown at lower elevation. This explains lower light absorption (PAR) in this plant when grown at lower elevation. For survival
under the habitat with high thermal load the leaves of this alpine herb could maintain lower temperature by way of reduced
absorption in near-infrared radiation region which probably is accomplished by lower water contents and thickness of leaves
at lower elevation. 相似文献
Culture filtrates and cell lysates of two strains of S. weltevreden which caused dilation of ligated rabbit gut segments (characteristic associated with the enterotoxic activity) induced mild to severe architectural changes in the test segments of intestine. The dilated segments contained thick, bloody and mucoid exudates. The results suggested that besides invasiveness and enterotoxigenicity, S. weltevreden possibly possessed factor (s) that damaged intestinal tissue and played part in the pathogenesis of Salmonella gastroenteritis. 相似文献
Cryptococcus albidus shows delignification activity in nature. It was used for the biopulping of eucalyptus wood (Eucalyptus grandis) to access its potential for industrial application in the pulp and paper industry. Enzyme analysis on days 15, 30, and 60 showed the presence of laccase and xylanase as key enzymes. The production of endo-glucanase (CMCase) and exo-glucanase (FPase) was very low. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed the surface colonization of wood and loosening of wood fibers in C. albidus-treated samples. Fourier-transformation infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) indicated the chemical modification of eucalyptus wood. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis on days 15, 30, and 60 confirmed the presence of C. albidus throughout the experiments. Cryptococcu albidus was able to suppress the growth of a native population. Further, after 60 days both the control and treated eucalyptus wood chips were given kraft pulping treatment. The kappa number of pulp of control wood was 21 and for treated wood was 17. Kappa number is considered a measure of lignin content in wood; hence the treatment of eucalyptus by C. albidus (biopulping) was effective in reducing its lignin content and can be used for biopulping in the pulp and paper industry. 相似文献
Ferulic acid is being screened in preclinical settings to combat various neurological disorders. It is a naturally occurring dietary flavonoid commonly found in grains, fruits, and vegetables such as rice, wheat, oats, tomatoes, sweet corn etc., which exhibits protective effects against a number of neurological diseases such as epilepsy, depression, ischemia-reperfusion injury, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. Ferulic acid prevents and treats different neurological diseases pertaining to its potent anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory effects, beside modulating unique neuro-signaling pathways. It stays in the bloodstream for longer periods than other dietary polyphenols and antioxidants and easily crosses blood brain barrier. The use of novel drug delivery systems such as solid-lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) or its salt forms (sodium ferulate, ethyl ferulate, and isopentyl ferulate) further enhance its bioavailability and cerebral penetration. Based on reported studies, ferulic acid appears to be a promising molecule for treatment of neurological disorders; however, more preclinical (in vitro and in vivo) mechanism-based studies should be planned and conceived followed by its testing in clinical settings.
The effect of an asymmetrical skeleton photoperiod scheduleee was studied on the gonadal development in a tropical finch, the weaver bird (Ploceus philippinus). The schedul comprised a short nonstimulatory primary photoperiod of 6 hrs and a secondary much shorter lightperiod given as a 15-min light pulse at different times in the dark period. The light pulse 11 hrs after the basic period resulted in gonadal stimulation, while light pulse in contimuation with the basic period or 8, 14 or 21 hrs after the basicperiod was not stimulatory. The "photoinducible phase" was much more precisely outlined by shifting the birds from an 8-h to a 10-h pulse, and from an 11-h to 12-h pulse and was found to be very short, lasting about an hour falling between 11 and 12 hrs after the primary light period. The short photoinducible phase may be of an adaptive value since in the tropics the difference between the shortest and the longest daylength is also rather small (3 hrs and 15 min at Varanasi, 25degrees N). Clearly the weaver bird possesses a fine time-measuring device involving an endogenous circadian rhythm in photosensitivity. In nature, spermatogenesis in this bird also begins in March when the daylength exceeds 11 hrs (thus perhaps coinciding with the photoinducible phase). In rather small, photoperiod may not serve as a cue to trigger seasonal reproductive periodicity, it seems that photoperiod can act as a Zeitgeber for the initiation of spermatogenesis in the weaver bird at least. 相似文献
Effect of thyroidectomy and replacement therapy with L-T4, on liver and plasma biochemical constituents of E. bruniceps, was studied during January (recovery phase). Thyroidectomy elevated significantly the levels of plasma glucose, protein, cholesterol, diglyceride, hepatic cholesterol and depressed significantly hepatic free fatty acid without affecting liver and body weights. Treatment of thyroidectomized birds with L-T4 restored liver and plasma constituents, but had significantly depressed plasma phospholipid. These findings suggest that thyroid hormones are critically involved in lipo-regulatory mechanism(s) in E. bruniceps. 相似文献
