Adenovirus serotype determines association and localization of the large E1B tumor antigen with cellular tumor antigen p53 in transformed cells.

The distribution and stability of the cellular tumor antigen p53 were studied in baby rat kidney cells transformed by region E1 sequences of nononcogenic adenovirus (Ad) type 5 (Ad5) or oncogenic type 12 (Ad12). In transformed cells expressing the large E1B T antigen of Ad5, p53 was associated with this T antigen. The complexed proteins were concentrated in a cytoplasmic body, which has been shown to consist of a cluster of 8-nm filaments (A. Zantema et al., Virology 142:44-58, 1985). In transformed cells expressing the E1B region of Ad12, however, no association between the viral large T antigen and p53 was detectable. In the latter case, both proteins were found almost exclusively in the nucleus. The stability of p53 in both Ad5- and Ad12-transformed cells was increased relative to that in primary cells or cells immortalized by the E1A region only. Thus, the increased stability of p53 in Ad-transformed cells is not caused by association with a viral T antigen, but it correlates with expression of E1B and with morphological transformation.     

Role ofCandida in indirect pathogenesis of antibiotic associated diarrhoea in infants

One hundred and thirty seven isolates ofCandida species were isolated from antiobiotic associated diarrhoea cases and were examined to study the role ofCandida in the pathogenesis of diarrhoea in infants. The quantitative estimation of yeast population by simple gram stain smear revealed more than 70% of the cases had 3+ score. The isolates further screened for detection of-lactamases. Among the isolatedCandida sp,-lactamases was secreted byC. albicans, C. tropicalis, C. krusei andC. parapsilosis. Further, 46% of theCandida isolates were found to be produced 741–1110 mU/ml of-lactamases, suggesting that these enzyme would inactivate penicillin group of drugs and cause failure in the therapy directed against other diarrhoegenic bacteria.Abbreviation AAD antibiotic associated diarrhoea     

The Influence of Adenosine Receptor Antagonists Ahinophylline (AMP) and Caffeine (CAF) on Seizure Protective Ability of Antiepileptic Drugs (AEDs) in Rats

Abstract

The acute effects of AMP and CAF on seizure protectivity of AEDs were examined against electro and chemo shock convulsions in rats. The results support the claim that adenosine receptors may be involved in action of some AEDs.     

STING Millennium Suite: integrated software for extensive analyses of 3d structures of proteins and their complexes

Background  

The integration of many aspects of protein/DNA structure analysis is an important requirement for software products in general area of structural bioinformatics. In fact, there are too few software packages on the internet which can be described as successful in this respect. We might say that what is still missing is publicly available, web based software for interactive analysis of the sequence/structure/function of proteins and their complexes with DNA and ligands. Some of existing software packages do have certain level of integration and do offer analysis of several structure related parameters, however not to the extent generally demanded by a user.     

DETECTION AND ENUMERATION OF H2S+ BACTERIA: APPLICATION TO SHEWANELLA PUTREFACIENS (CIP)

H₂S⁺ bacteria responsible for the degradation of sulfur-containing amino acids of fish muscle are currently little used to evaluate the microbiological pal quality of fish. Shewanella putrefaciens greatly predominates in this flora, and was therefore used to define a suitable culture method and medium. Inoculations by the Spiral surface method at 25C, with an incubation of 72h, gave the best counts on a medium containing two sources of sulfur (organic and inorganic) for H₂S⁺ bacteria. The culture medium and the NaCl concentration were determinant in the evaluation of this flora. At present there is no standard medium which meets these requirements.     

Molecular Analysis and Susceptibility Profiling of Candida albicans Isolates from Immunocompromised Patients in South India

The genetic diversity and in vitro antifungal susceptibility profiles of 55 Candida albicans from immunocompromised patients were studied. PCR based analysis of the transposable intron in the 25S rDNA revealed 39 genotype A, 4 genotype B and 12 genotype C isolates. Serotype analysis categorized 52 isolates as serotype A and 3 as serotype B. All strains were susceptible to micafungin, 5-flucytosine and miconazole, whereas resistance against amphotericin B (3.6%), fluconazole (3.6%), itraconazole (7.3%) and voriconazole (5.5%) was observed. No association was seen between antifungal resistance and genotype/serotype status.     

Green biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles from Annona squamosa leaf extract and its in vitro cytotoxic effect on MCF-7 cells

The biological method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Annona squamosa leaf extract and its cytotoxicity against MCF-7 cells are reported. The synthesized AgNPs using A. squamosa leaf extract was determined by UV–visible spectroscopy and it was further characterized by FT-IR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Zeta potential and energy dispersive spectrometric (EDS) analysis. The UV–visible spectrum showed an absorption peak at 444 nm which reflects surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of AgNPs. TEM photography showed biosynthesized AgNPs were predominantly spherical in shape with an average size ranging from 20 to 100 nm. The Zeta potential value of ?37 mV revealed the stability of biosynthesized AgNPs. Furthermore, the green synthesized AgNPs exhibited a dose-dependent cytotoxicity against human breast cancer cell (MCF-7) and normal breast epithelial cells (HBL-100) and the inhibitory concentration (IC₅₀) were found to be 50 μg/mL, 30 μg/mL, and 80 μg/mL, 60 μg/ml for AgNPs against MCF-7 and normal HBL-100 cells at 24 h and 48 h incubation respectively. An induction of apoptosis was evidenced by (AO/EtBr) and DAPI staining. Application of such eco-friendly nanoparticles makes this method potentially exciting for the large scale synthesis of nanoparticles.     

Pest management services through conservation of biological control agents: review,case studies and field experiences

ABSTRACT

Conservation biological control is an approach to enhance the efficacy of natural enemies by ensuring their availability in an agro-ecosystem on a long temporal scale. An increased survival often leads to better fecundity and improved behaviour of the natural enemies, which in turn ensures sustainable pest management. This paper, apart from being a concise review of conservation biological control, deals with selected India-specific case studies and field experiences on habitat manipulation and refugia. Results from a Bengaluru-based study during 2012–2015 on conservation biological control in an organic mango ecosystem are also presented. It also dwells briefly on conservation of insectivorous birds and touches upon conservation biocontrol with respect to entomopathogenic microorganisms and plant disease antagonists.     

Use of CHROMagar in the Differentiation of Common Species of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Candida</Emphasis>

CHROMagar has been reported to be useful for the rapid and accurate identification of Candida species. We tested 135 isolates of Candida species isolated from oropharyngeal candidiasis in HIV patients and found that it was useful in the presumptive identification of Candida albicans and Candida krusei. Occasional strains of C. tropicalis produced colonies with a greenish tinge making it difficult to differentiate from C. albicans.
