The aim of this research was to explain the direct plant growth-promoting activity of Trichoderma harzianum strain T-22 (T22), hypothesizing the involvement of different classes of plant growth regulators. Seven days after the transfer to root-inducing medium, in vitro-cultured shoots of GiSeLa6? (Prunus cerasus  × P. canescens) were inoculated with T22. Root and shoot growth were significantly affected by T22 (+76 and +61%, respectively). Ten days after inoculation, the levels of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), trans-zeatin riboside (t-ZR), dihydrozeatin riboside (DHZR), gibberellic acid (GA3) and abscisic acid (ABA) were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The results showed that after T22-inoculation, IAA and GA3 significantly increased in both leaves (+49 and +71%, respectively) and roots (+40 and +143%, respectively) whereas t-ZR decreased (−51% in leaves and −37% in roots). Changes in DHZR were observed in T22-inoculated roots (−32%) but not in leaves, whereas the levels of ABA did not differ between the two treatments. The extraction method allowed the simultaneous extraction of phytohormones. There is evidence that the change in phytohormone levels is one of the direct mechanism by which T22 promotes rooting and shoot growth, with notable advantages for rootstock production during nursery processes.  相似文献

The food chain dynamics of the edible mussel Mytilus edulis L., the American oyster Crassostrea virginica (Gmelin) and the hard clam Mercenaria mercenaria (L.) were investigated in large experimental tanks with flowing, filtered sea water and controlled addition of phytoplankton. The feeding rate of the mussel (5.36 μg carbon removed/l/g C animal was higher than that of the oyster (3.92) and clam (3.03) but the ecological efficiencies (net production/ingested food) × 100 of the clam (23.69 %) and the oyster (18.38 %) were higher than that of the mussel (10.01 %).The food chain efficiencies (net production/available food) were lower than the ecological efficiencies, suggesting under-exploitation of the available food. The clam, although having a lower feeding rate, was more efficient in utilizing the food it filtered and so showed the highest net production.The rates (μg-at/l/g C animal) of regeneration of nutrients, especially total inorganic nitrogen (mussel, 2.1723 × 10?3; oyster, 7.4270 × 10?3; and clam, 8.1750 × 10?3) along with reported high biodeposition rates of bivalves suggest that multi-species aquaculture systems would be more efficient and productive than one-species systems.  相似文献

1. The lysosomal enzyme, N-acetyl-beta-hexosaminidase (HEX) is present in human breast milk. It is composed predominantly of "A" (heat-labile) and "B" (heat-stable) isozymes which coelute with the corresponding major serum isozymes on DE-52 ion-exchange chromatography. 2. Total HEX activity in "early" milk obtained at 2.8 +/- 1.4 weeks post partum, is approx. 2.5-fold higher (87 +/- 29 nmol/60'/mg protein. n = 10) than that of pregnancy serum (35.7 nmol/60'/mg protein) prior to delivery. 3. These levels increase to greater than 3-fold (110 +/- 20 nmol/60'/mg protein, n = 13) as the milk matures (10.3 +/- 4.2 weeks). 4. The specific activity of HEX A in the milk changes little with time post partum, because absolute 5. In contrast, HEX B specific activity is increased, as absolute levels (per volume) remain constant in the face of decreasing milk protein content, 5. We show that an ongoing locomotor pattern can be dynamically controlled by applying discrete pulses of electrical stimulation to the central pattern generator (CPG) for locomotion. Data are presented from a pair of experiments on biological (wetware) and electrical (hardware) models of the CPG demonstrating that stimulation causes brief deviations from the CPG’s limit cycle activity. The exact characteristics of the deviation depend strongly on the phase of stimulation. Applications of this work are illustrated by examples showing how locomotion can be controlled by using a feedback loop to monitor CPG activity and applying stimuli at the appropriate times to modulate motor output. Ecologists studying coastal and estuarine benthic communities have long taken a macroecological view, by relating benthic community patterns to environmental factors across several spatial scales. Although many general ecological patterns have been established, often a significant amount of the spatial and temporal variation in soft-sediment communities within and among systems remains unexplained. Here we propose a framework that may aid in unraveling the complex influence of environmental factors associated with the different components of coastal systems (i.e. the terrestrial and benthic landscapes, and the hydrological seascape) on benthic communities, and use this information to assess the role played by benthos in coastal ecosystems. A primary component of the approach is the recognition of system modules (e.g. marshes, dendritic systems, tidal rivers, enclosed basins, open bays, lagoons). The modules may differentially interact with key forcing functions (e.g. temperature, salinity, currents) that influence system processes and in turn benthic responses and functions. Modules may also constrain benthic characteristics and related processes within certain ecological boundaries and help explain their overall spatio-temporal variation. We present an example of how benthic community characteristics are related to the modular structure of 14 coastal seas and estuaries, and show that benthic functional group composition is significantly related to the modular structure of these systems. We also propose a framework for exploring the role of benthic communities in coastal systems using this modular approach and offer predictions of how benthic communities may vary depending on the modular composition and characteristics of a coastal system.  相似文献

Summary We report a large Italian pedigree in which five out of six males are affected by a syndrome, following an X-linked inheritance pattern, characterized by ichthyosis, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and anosmia. The concurrence of features of X-linked ichthyosis (XLI) with those of Kallmann syndrome, another disease often inherited as an X-linked trait, prompted us to perform biochemical, cytogenetic, and molecular studies in relation to the short arm of the X chromosome (Xp). Steroid sulphatase (STS) activity was found to be completely deficient in all affected members of the family. Prometaphase chromosome analyses of two obligate heterozygous women and one affected male showed normal karyotypes. Xg blood group antigen analysis and molecular studies employing cloned DNA sequences from the distal segment of the Xp (probes RC8, 782, dic56, and M1A), did not provide evidence for deletions or rearrangements of the X chromosome. The linkage analysis showed no crossovers between the disease, Xg, and DXS 143, the locus defined by probe dic56, thus suggesting the possibility of a linkage between these two markers of the distal segment of Xp and the X-linked ichthyosis, hypogonadism, and anosmia syndrome.  相似文献
