The Gebel Qreiya and nearby Wadi Hamama sections of the central Eastern Desert are among the most complete K/T boundary sequences known from Egypt. The two sections were analyzed spanning an interval from l.83 Myr below to about 3 Myr above the K/T boundary. A 1-cm-thick red clay layer at the K/T boundary at Gebel Qreiya contains an Ir anomaly of 5.4 ppb. The high-resolution study and well-preserved nannoflora provide good age control and the first quantitative records of calcareous nannofossil assemblages for paleoecological interpretations across the K/T transition in Egypt. Four zones (Micula murus, Micula prinsii, NP1, and NP2) were distinguished and correlated with other nannofossil and planktonic foraminiferal zonations that are broadly applicable for the eastern Tethys region. Latest Maastrichtian assemblages are abundant and diverse, though Cretaceous species richness progressively decreased across the K/T boundary. Dominant species include Arkhangelskiella cymbiformis, Micula decussata and Watznaueria barnesae, with high abundance of dissolution-resistant M. decussata reflecting periods of high environmental stress. Thoracosphaera blooms mark the K/T boundary and are followed by an acme of the opportunistic survivor Braarudosphaera bigelowii, the first appearance of the new Tertiary species Cruciplacolithus primus, and an acme of Coccolithus cavus/pelagicus. These successive abundance peaks provide the basis for subdivision of the Early Danian Zones NP1 and NP2 into five subzones. Correlation of selected nannofossil taxa from the Egyptian sections with those from various onshore marine and deep-sea sections provides insights into their paleoenvironmental and paleoecological affinities. 相似文献

An experiment was designed using populations ofDrosophila pseudoobscura with different gene arrangements on the third chromosome, to study the effects of various temperatures and different dosages of radiation on the innate capacity for increase.The innate capacity for increase was found to increase with temperature and decrease with higher in radiation dosages. The mean generation length showed a decline with both treatments with a greater decrease in the former treatments.Net reproductive rate showed a decrease in both cases while the finite rate of increase () showed an increase in the temperature experiment and a decrease in the radiation experiment.Percentage contribution of each age group to the rate of muliplication per generation depends on temperature and dosages of radiation as well as the genetic background of the population. 相似文献

Fifty broiler chicks were divided into five groups to study the antiviral and immune-stimulant effect of Allium cepa essential oils (ACEO). The effect of Allium cepa essential oils administration single or combined with NVD vaccine in broilers, more than one parameter was studied in this study i.e., the clinical symptoms that appeared on the chicks after the experimental infection with velogenic Newcastle disease virus, postmortem lesions, pathological lesions scoring, mortality rate (MR), and viral shedding, birds immunity was assessed by HI test and protection percent post-challenge with vNDV. Our result showed that mild clinical signs, lesion scoring, decreased viral shedding in ACEO treated groups 3 (G 3) more than control groups post-challenge with vNDV. Delayed onset of mild clinical signs in G3 followed by complete recovery 7th-day post-challenge (DPC). Low MR (40 and 0%) and high protection percent (100 and 60%) in ACEO treated G3 and G5, respectively. spleen, thymus, cecal tonsil, proventriculus, and cerebrum lesions scoring in G3 and G5 were significantly ((p ≤ 0.05).) lower than the control group, proving a decrease in NDV replication and effective antiviral activity of ACEO. HI titer significantly increased (p ≤ 0.05) In G3, G4 and G5 compared with control groups. There is no significant difference in HI titer in ACEO treated groups and vaccinated groups. In conclusion, oral administration of ACEO combined with NDV vaccines significantly reduces or eliminates lethal clinical signs, lesions, viral shedding, and enhances immune response and protection percent after vNDV challenge proving the natural antiviral and immune stimulant effect of ACEO onion extract. Implementing such a regime might aid NDV control in broiler flocks in endemic areas and reduce the epidemiological load of NDV in the environment. 相似文献

In the present study, 13 filamentous fungi were screened for their lipid production and an oleaginous fungus, Penicillium brevicompactum NRC 829, was found to be the highest lipid producer. Screening of various agro-industrial residues was performed and sunflower oil cake proved to be the best substrate for lipid production. A central composite design was employed to investigate the optimum concentrations of the most significant medium components required to improve the lipid production by P. brevicompactum. The results clearly revealed that the maximal lipid production of 8.014 ± 0.06 gL?1 (representing 57.6% lipid/dry biomass) was achieved by the fungus when grown for 6 days at 30 °C under static condition in a medium containing sunflower oil cake, NaNO3 and KCl at final concentrations of 8, 0.75 and 0.25 gL?1, respectively. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis of P. brevicompactum lipid indicated that linoleic acid (LA) (C18:2–6, 9) was the most abundant fatty acid, accounting for up to 62% of the total fatty acid profile, followed by palmitoleic acid (C16:1, 16%) and linolenic acid (C18:3, 8%). These results suggest that P. brevicompactum NRC 829 may have potential for commercial development for the production of LA by fermentation using cheap raw material. 相似文献
