Bufo arenarum oocyte maturation is related to important modifications in the metabolism of carbohydrates. Such changes involve a different relative participation of the main oxidative routes and are under the influence of seasonal variations of the pituitary activity.
Ovulated coelomic oocytes obtained during the winter period, were unable to initiate cleavage after injection of a sperm suspension. The extent of sperm head transformation and aster formation in the cytoplasm of oocytes with a different metabolic behaviour (obtained during the winter and summer periods) were studied.
Our results show that sperm nuclear transformation and DNA synthesis were quite similar in both types of oocytes. In contrast to summer oocytes, in which the pronucleus was sourranded by an aster, no aster structure was formed in winter ooctyes notwithstanding pronucleus formation occurred.
These results suggest that the failure to develop aster may explain the lack of cleaving in winter oocytes. It appears that the metabolic changes, aster formation and the capability to cleave are closely related and could be dissociated from oocyte nuclear maturation in this species.  相似文献

1. Fresh and decomposed Mougeotia sp. (a filamentous green alga) and Elodea nuttallii (a vascular plant) were offered as food to three species of aquatic macroinvertebrates (Lymnaea peregra, Asellus meridianus and Endochironomus albipennis) to test: (i) if filamentous algae are preferred to aquatic higher plants (hereafter, called ‘macrophytes’) and (ii), as is known for higher plants, if decomposition also results in greater palatability of filamentous algae. 2. Compared with the alga, the macrophyte in both states was of higher nutritional value. Conditioning improved the nutritional value of both food types, but especially of the macrophyte. 3. Both fresh alga and fresh macrophyte were eaten little by all animals except A. meridianus feeding upon the macrophyte. Consumption was higher for both plants in their decomposed state. However, L. peregra consumed more decomposed macrophyte than the decomposed alga. Both decomposed plants were eaten most by E. albipennis followed by A. meridianus and L. peregra. 4. Digestibility of both plants, but especially of the macrophyte, increased significantly after decomposition. The assimilation efficiencies of all animals on the fresh E. nuttallii were higher than on fresh Mougeotia sp. After decomposition, the efficiency increased significantly only on the alga. Consequently, both decomposed plants were assimilated with similar efficiency by all test animals. 5. Amongst aquatic macrophytes, the increase of their consumption and digestibility upon decomposition has hitherto been known only for vascular plants but not for filamentous algae.  相似文献

Mouse early embryos and embryo fragments were transplanted into an immunologically privileged site, consisting of a glass cylinder previously implanted under the skin of adult mice in order to test their tumor producing potential, in allogeneic adult recipients. The highest yield of tumors was obtained upon transplantation of 6 1/2 day old embryos in toto. i.e., including the embryonic and extraembryonic areas. Histological examination showed teratomas composed of differentiated tissues derived from the three germ layers containing isolated foci of undifferentiated cells and nodules of trophoblast giant cells. Areas exhibiting the histological appearance of yolk sac carcinoma were also observed. Transplantation of the whole 6 1/2 day old egg cylinder, including the ectoplacental cone, and the isolated embryonic area produced a lower incidence of teratomas with a reduced variety of differentiated tissues. No yolk sac carcinoma was found in these grafts. The ectoplacental cone of 6 1/2 day embryos produced no tumors. Grafts of genital ridges from 12 1/2 day embryos gave rise to teratomas with well differentiated tissues of embryonic and extraembryonic origin. Areas ressembling yolk sac carcinoma were also observed. The life span of trophoblastic giant cells within the glass cylinder was significantly longer than in other experimental systems.  相似文献

Supraorbital bones in Saurolophus angustirostris are described, and their presence in all hadrosaurs is suggested. Frontal-nasal and premaxillar-nasal fontanellae are distinguished in hadrosaurs; their presence is explained as connected with growth and considered to he responsible for the variability of crest structures. New data indicating the presence of a cartilaginous diverticulum nasi within the circumnarial depression in Saurobphus ongustirostris are presented. A physiological (respiratory and/or thermoregulatory) function of the nasal diverticulum is proposed.  相似文献

Recent theoretical studies suggest that the distribution of species in space has important implications for the conservation of communities in fragmented landscapes. Facilitation and dispersal are the primary mechanisms responsible for the formation of spatial patterns. Furthermore, disruptions in the formation of patterns arise after degradation, which can serve as an early indicator of stress in plant communities. Spatial dispersal ability and pattern formation were evaluated in 53 linear transects of 500 m in length within 14 fragments of natural vegetation within a matrix of abandoned crop fields in Cabo de Gata National Park, Almería, Spain. Fragments were classified into three size classes (< 300, 300–900, and > 900 ha). Fragment connectivity was quantified using the distances between fragments. Spatial dispersal ability was quantified for the 187 species recorded in the study. Species with restricted dispersal had the highest degree of long‐range spatial autocorrelation and, species that disperse by biotic vectors (e.g. vertebrates), the lowest. In addition, species most susceptible to fragmentation are vertebrate‐dispersed shrubs, which declined in abundance and was associated with loss of spatial organization in the smallest fragments. It is postulated that the positive feedback between abundance of recruitment and vertebrate visits influences the colonization and persistence of vertebrate‐dispersed shrubs, explaining its abundance in large fragments. Indeed, fragments lower than a certain threshold reduced spatial organization not only in shrubs with biotic dispersal, but also in species with abiotic dispersal (mainly wind) and with restricted dispersal. Fragments lower than a certain threshold may be vulnerable to a cascade of species loss because of reduced recruitment, establishment and patch biomass as a result of natural senescence, finally breaking up facilitative plant interactions. © 2010 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2010, 100 , 935–947.  相似文献
