A re-examination of the trilobite Baniaspis globosa Destombes (Phacopina) from the Ashgill of the Anti-Atlas (Morocco) shows that it has several derived characters which allow us to classify it in the family Calmoniidae. Calmoniids were characteristic members of the Malvino-Kaffric province during the Lower Devonian. Hence we regard the origins of this palaeogeographic province as located on the northern Gondwanan margin as early as Ashgill, or even Caradoc, times. We agree with those authors who have suggested that the trilobite associations present in the Anti-Atlas, the Montagne Noire (France) and Bohemia during the earlier Ordovician argue against the existence of a 'proto-Tethys' ocean.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the genetic basis of rust mite (Aculus schlechtendali) resistance in apple (Malus × domestica). A. schlechtendali infestation of apple trees has increased as a consequence of reduced side effects of modern fungicides on rust mites. An analysis of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) was carried out using linkage map data available for F1 progeny plants of the cultivars ‘Fiesta’ × ‘Discovery’. Apple trees representing 160 different genotypes were surveyed for rust mite infestation, each at three different sites in two consecutive years. The distribution of rust mites on the individual apple genotypes was aggregated and significantly affected by apple genotype and site. We identified two QTLs for A. schlechtendali resistance on linkage group 7 of ‘Fiesta’. The AFLP marker E35M42-0146 (20.2 cM) and the RAPD marker AE10-400 (45.8 cM) were closest positioned to the QTLs and explained between 11.0% and 16.6% of the phenotypic variability. Additionally, putative QTLs on the ‘Discovery’ chromosomes 4, 5 and 8 were detected. The SSR marker Hi03a10 identified to be associated to one of the QTLs (AFLP marker E35M42-0146) was traced back in the ‘Fiesta’ pedigree to the apple cultivar ‘Wagener’. This marker may facilitate the breeding of resistant apple cultivars by marker assisted selection. Furthermore, the genetic background of rust mite resistance in existing cultivars can be evaluated by testing them for the identified SSR marker. In this paper, a reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic method using a chemically modified electrode coupled with microdialysis was developed to study the effect of electromagnetic impulse (EMI) on monoamine neurotransmitter metabolism in nerve cells. To detect the monoamines and their metabolites, a poly (para-aminobenzoic acid) (P-pABA)-modified electrode was prepared. The modified electrode exhibited efficiently electrocatalytic oxidation for monoamines and their metabolites with relatively high sensitivity, stability, and long life. Nerve cells were primarily cultured. EMI was radiated to three experimental model nerve cells: (i) on mature nerve cells, (ii) on the culture medium, and (iii) on juvenile nerve cells for various periods of time. Then the levels of monoamines in the culture medium were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography-electrochemical detection. The data indicated that electromagnetic fields could influence neurotransmitter metabolism by direct effect on nerve cells or effect on the nutrient medium and that the effect was not only relevant with the length of radiation time, but also with the growing state of the nerve cells.  相似文献

Genomics has changed the pace by which genes are analyzed. Rather than looking at genes one by one, gene expression today is studied at the genome level. Unfortunately, the data we get from microarray analysis do not give us any clues about the function of these genes. Functional analyses are still refractory to large-scale, high-throughput studies, particularly in vertebrates. With the development of in ovo RNAi as a tool for specific gene silencing, the chicken embryo has become an efficient in vivo system to study gene function during development. A major advantage of in ovo RNAi is the fact that the knowledge of a cDNA fragment of the gene of interest is sufficient to get loss-of-function phenotypes. Thus, this new approach is a valuable tool for functional genomics.  相似文献

Neuropilin-1 and neuropilin-2 bind differentially to different class 3 semaphorins and are thought to provide the ligand-binding moieties in receptor complexes mediating repulsive responses to these semaphorins. Here, we have studied the function of neuropilin-2 through analysis of a neuropilin-2 mutant mouse, which is viable and fertile. Repulsive responses of sympathetic and hippocampal neurons to Sema3F but not to Sema3A are abolished in the mutant. Marked defects are observed in the development of several cranial nerves, in the initial central projections of spinal sensory axons, and in the anterior commissure, habenulo-interpeduncular tract, and the projections of hippocampal mossyfiber axons in the infrapyramidal bundle. Our results show that neuropilin-2 is an essential component of the Sema3F receptor and identify key roles for neuropilin-2 in axon guidance in the PNS and CNS.  相似文献

During the Llandeilo, the sandy lithological units which develop locally in the Armorican Massif, Spain and Morocco, are all characterized by similar trilobite associations in which endobenthic homalonotids. well adapted to shallow water and sandy substrate, are predominant. Cooperative behavior is widely spread in microbial populations. An example is the expression of an extracellular protease by the lactic acid bacterium Lactococcus lactis, which degrades milk proteins into free utilizable peptides that are essential to allow growth to high cell densities in milk. Cheating, protease-negative strains can invade the population and drive the protease-positive strain to extinction. By using multiple experimental approaches, as well as modeling population dynamics, we demonstrate that the persistence of the proteolytic trait is determined by the fraction of the generated peptides that can be captured by the cell before diffusing away from it. The mechanism described is likely to be relevant for the evolutionary stability of many extracellular substrate-degrading enzymes.  相似文献

Global warming will lead to earlier beginnings and prolongation of growing seasons in temperate regions and will have pronounced effects on phenology and life-history adaptation in many species. These changes were not easy to simulate for actual phenologies because of the rudimentary temporal (season) and spatial (regional) resolution of climate model projections. We investigate the effect of climate change on the regional incidence of a pest insect with nearly worldwide distribution and very high potential for adaptation to season length and temperature--the Codling Moth, Cydia pomonella. Seasonal and regional climate change signals were downscaled to the hourly temporal scale of a pest phenology model and the spatial scale of pest habitats using a stochastic weather generator operating at daily scale in combination with a re-sampling approach for simulation of hourly weather data. Under future conditions of increased temperatures (2045-2074), the present risk of below 20% for a pronounced second generation (peak larval emergence) in Switzerland will increase to 70-100%. The risk of an additional third generation will increase from presently 0-2% to 100%. We identified a significant two-week shift to earlier dates in phenological stages, such as overwintering adult flight. The relative extent (magnitude) of first generation pupae and all later stages will significantly increase. The presence of first generation pupae and later stages will be prolonged. A significant decrease in the length of overlap of first and second generation larval emergence was identified. Such shifts in phenology may induce changes in life-history traits regulating the life cycle. An accordingly life-history adaptation in photoperiodic diapause induction to shorter day-length is expected and would thereby even more increase the risk of an additional generation. With respect to Codling Moth management, the shifts in phenology and voltinism projected here will require adaptations of plant protection strategies to maintain their sustainability.  相似文献

我们从细胞形态上的研究, 证明:蓖麻蚕卵在成熟期分裂的中期(同一横剖面), 基组数染色体是14;分作两圈, 内层4个, 外层10个。成熟卵停止在第一次中期分裂, 纺锤体与卵膜垂直, 待精子入卵后继续向前分裂, 并发现有染色质消散的现象。第二次成熟期分裂结果获得3个极体和1个雌性原核。正常的卵平均能接受2-3条精子, 它们入卵后起收缩、囊化成雄性原核;其中一个与雌性原核合并为“双组核”。剩余的过数精核分裂缓慢, 终于中心体离纺锤体作异形的分裂。  相似文献
