General practitioners' use of written materials during consultations

Russell et al have shown that the compliance of patients can be enhanced by general practitioners'' providing them with written materials.'' We examined what educational materials for patients were used by general practitioners and where the materials came from.     

Prevalence of Gardnerella vaginalis: an estimate

To assess the prevalence of Gardnerella vaginalis in the community 300 women aged 16-59 were randomly selected from a general practice''s age-sex register and invited to attend for a health check. Out of 282 women who were eligible to attend, 192 did so. They were asked whether they had any vaginal symptoms, and swabs were taken from 182 women for culture for G vaginalis. Sixty women were positive for G vaginalis, of whom 26 had symptoms.Infections with G vaginalis may be present in women who have no symptoms. By careful questioning, examination, and side room testing general practitioners may be able to diagnose these infections in such women consulting them for other reasons.     

Solid-state fermentation of carob pods byAspergillus niger for protein production: effect of particle size

Two strains ofAspergillus niger were cultured in solid-state fermentation system on carob pods ground from 1.25 to 8 mm diam. A particle size of 2.5 mm gave the highest protein content of the final product (20%, w/w) and 52% of the total soluble carbohydrates were utilized. The total tannin concentration of the carob pods decreased by 83% in 4 days of fermentation.T. Smail and O. Effet du climat et de l’exposition sur la dynamique des populations de la cochenille violette,Parlatoria oleae Colvée (Hemiptera : Diaspididae), en conditions arides

Résumé

Ce travail a pour objectif l’étude de quelques aspects bio-écologiques de la cochenille violette, Parlatoria oleae Colvée 1880, bio-agresseur des cultures de l’Olivier en régions arides. Le suivi du cycle biologique ainsi que la démo-écologie de ce ravageur ont été réalisés grâce à des dénombrements périodiques des populations sur les différents organes de l’arbre (méthodes de Vasseur &; Schvester) de décembre 2010 à décembre 2011 dans la région d’Ain Touta (nord-est algérien). L’espèce y a montré deux générations par an : une génération printanière se développant entre avril et juillet et une génération automnale évoluant entre août et octobre. La ponte débuta en avril et s’échelonna jusqu‘à la fin septembre. L’exposition nord est la plus favorable à cette diaspine qui y trouve des conditions microclimatiques optimales pour son développement. La ponte moyenne est de 8 à 9 ?ufs par femelle. L’analyse statistique de l’effet des conditions climatiques étudiées (températures minimale, maximale et moyenne ; précipitations, gelée et indice d’aridité De Martone) sur les effectifs des différents stades, montre une grande variabilité d’un stade à un autre. L’analyse statistique établie révèle également que les effectifs de l’espèce présentent des variations très hautement significatives selon l’orientation dans l’arbre d’olive colonisé.     

Simulating multi-agent-based computation offloading for autonomous cars

Efficient task processing and data storage are still among the most important challenges in Autonomous Driving (AD). In-board processing units struggle to deal with the workload of AD tasks, especially for Artificial Intelligence (AI) based applications. Cloud and Fog computing represent good opportunities to overcome the limitation of in-board processing capacities. However, communication delays and task real-time constraints are the main issues to be considered during the task mapping. Also, a fair resources allocation is a miss-explored concept in the context of AD task offloading where the mobility increases its complexity. We propose a task offloading simulation tool and approaches based on intelligent agents. Agents at the edge and the fog communicate and exchange their knowledge and history. We show results and proof-of-concept scenarios that illustrate our multi-agent-based proposition and task offloading simulation tool. We also analyze the impact of communication delays and processing units constraints on AD task offloading issues.

The majority of spinal cord injured males cannot procreate naturally due to anejaculation as well as abnormal sperm characteristics. Treatment of this impaired fertility must be associated with treatment of neurogenic urinary tract disorders, bowel dysfunction and spasticity. The level of the spinal lesion and the spinal cord injury syndrome influence the possibility of inducing reflex ejaculation by penile vibratory stimulation and sperm quality.
