Chenodeoxycholic and ursodeoxycholic acid are used widely for the treatment of gallstones. A possible drawback to their utility is their conversion to lithocholic acid, which has displayed histotoxicity and mutagenicity. The 7-oleyl esters of cheno- and ursodeoxycholic acid are not degraded by fecal bacteria and may represent safer means of treatment.  相似文献

Several 7-acyl cheno- and ursodeoxycholic acids were obtained in good yields starting from the corresponding cheno- and ursodeoxycholic acids, by a diacylation-selective hydrolysis procedure. Cold exposure (2°C for 7 days) in constant darkness at mummy stage induces diapause expression in 9% of the Praon volucre Haliday population. Diapausing parasitoids show a significant delay in emergence time compared with nondiapausing counterparts. A diapause‐mediated polyphenism is observed in mummy colour, with diapausing mummies being clearly darker than nondiapausing ones. The diapause status of dark mummies is confirmed by a significant reduction in metabolic rate. Diapausing parasitoids also display specific morphological characteristics: they are heavier (fresh and dry mass) and accumulate larger fat reserves than nondiapausing counterparts. The diapause status is associated with a fitness cost in terms of adult longevity. There is no evidence of diapause‐related change in supercooling ability.  相似文献

Although Ensifera is a major insect model group, its phylogenetic relationships have been understudied so far. Few phylogenetic hypotheses have been proposed, either with morphological or molecular data. The largest dataset ever used for phylogeny reconstruction on this group is molecular (16S rRNA, 18S rRNA and 28S rRNA sequences for 51 ensiferan species), which has been used twice with different resultant topologies. However, only one of these hypotheses has been adopted commonly as a reference classification. Here we re‐analyse this molecular dataset with different methods and parameters to test the robustness and the stability of the adopted phylogeny. Our study reveals the instability of phylogenetic relationships derived from this dataset, especially for the deepest nodes of the group, and suggests some guidelines for future studies. The comparison between the different classifications proposed in the past 70 years for Ensifera and our results allows the identification of potential monophyletic clades (katydids, mole crickets, scaly crickets + Malgasia, true crickets, leaf roller crickets, cave crickets) and the remaining unresolved clades (wetas, Jerusalem crickets and most of the highest rank clades) in Ensifera phylogeny.  相似文献

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Strategies to increase HDL are among the major targets of clinical research in atherosclerosis prevention. The mutant apolipoprotein A-I(Milano) has been associated with a reduced incidence of coronary disease in carriers. Furthermore, recombinant apolipoprotein A-I(Milano) has displayed remarkable atheroprotective activities and the possibility of directly reducing the burden of atherosclerosis in experimental models. This review is aimed at providing an update on the experimental studies in which apolipoprotein A-I(Milano), produced as a recombinant protein, has displayed important effects in the treatment of vascular diseases. RECENT FINDINGS: In the past year, two reports have appeared, indicating that a single-dose administration of recombinant apolipoprotein A-I(Milano) dimers formulated into liposomes can reduce atheromas in models such as the apolipoprotein E-deficient mice and a rabbit model of carotid focal lesion, in which a direct 90 min infusion of the product reduced atheroma up to 30%. This finding was associated with an increase in HDL free cholesterol and the permanence of the recombinant product in the lesion for over 72 h. SUMMARY: Recombinant apolipoprotein A-I(Milano), formulated as synthetic HDL with phospholipids, appears to exert a direct removing effect on arterial cholesterol. This is well evident in experimental animals and, more recently in clinical findings, as indicated by a dramatic increase in HDL free cholesterol after the infusion of different doses of the agent. As the product appears to be well tolerated and non-immunogenic, ongoing phase II studies in patients are being awaited with interest to obtain a 'proof of principle' for 'HDL therapy'.  相似文献

In the Ecuadorian coast one of the most destructive diseases of the pachaco is vascular wilt or stem rot caused by Ceratocystis complex, so the aim of this study was to determine the factors that affect the efficiency of the reaction of bark pachaco to this disease. This research was conducted under laboratory conditions, using trees pachaco S38, S41, S98, AE-1, AE-2 and AE-3, and pathogenic species Ceratocystis paradoxa and C. moniliformis. The method utilized was tissue stem bark,with bark sections with 4.5 cm2, and a suspension of 3x104 units infection and remained in a humid chamber for 96 hours at 25 ± 5 °C. Were determined grades of resistance/ susceptibility using a scale from 0 to 4, depending on the amount of mycelia and peritecio in each plant sample. Three factors were used: four colonies obtained by several transfers from each fungal specie, four ages of colonies of each fungal specie and four volumes of inoculum applied (units of infection), using for each experiment separately Completely Randomized Design with 4 replications factorial arrangement. For comparison between treatment means was used Tukey test at 5% probability of error. For future trials using this technique, you could use 30-day colonies for C. paradoxa and 40 days for C. moniliformis, and an application volume of 100 μL/cm2, it would improve the level of response for the formation of perithecium and mycelia in samples cortex.  相似文献
