The possibility of the low-threshold decay of an ordinary wave into an upper hybrid wave localized in a plasma column (or in an axisymmetric plasma filament) and a low-frequency wave is analyzed. It is shown that the threshold for such a decay, accompanied by the excitation of an ion-acoustic wave, can easily be overcome for plasma parameters typical of model experiments on the Granit linear plasma facility.  相似文献

It is found experimentally that the broadening of the pump-wave spectrum affects the parametric instability in an inhomogeneous plasma more weakly than is predicted by theory. The suppression of the absolute instability is only observed for a pump-wave spectrum width of 2πΔf>100γ, which is much greater than the instability growth rate γ.  相似文献

Results from comprehensive studies of a high-current self-sustained glow discharge in atmospheric-pressure helium are presented. The main parameters of the cathode fall, namely, the electric field pro-file, cathode fall thickness, current density, gas temperature, and heat flux to the cathode are determined. The results obtained are discussed using one-dimensional models of the cathode fall with allowance for volumetric heat release.  相似文献
