In this paper the recent population changes of the Wild Boar in different European countries is analysed through the study of hunting statistics. A simultaneous increase in numbers is observed throughout the whole area during the period 1965–1975. From 1975 onwards the population stabilizes itself apart from in peripheral areas like Finland. Potentially favourable factors which play a part in this process are discussed and certain reproductive and dispersive characteristics which favour its invasive behaviour are discussed. 相似文献

The gene of Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte-associated Antigen 4 (CTLA4), a negative regulator of T lymphocytes, contains a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at position +6230A->G (ct60A->G), which has been found associated with several autoimmune diseases and appears to reduce T-cell inhibitory activity. In Ghana, West Africa, we compared the frequencies of CTLA4 +6230 A/G and 6 haplotype-tagging SNPs in 2010 smear-positive, HIV-negative patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and 2346 controls matched for age, gender and ethnicity. We found no difference in allele frequencies between cases and controls. However, +6230A and a distinct CTLA4 haplotype and a diplotype comprising the +6230A allele were significantly less frequent among cases with large opacities in chest radiographs compared to those with small ones (Pcorrected [cor] = 0.002, Pcor = 0.00045, P = 0.0005, respectively). This finding suggests that an increased T-cell activity associated with the CTLA4 +6230G allele contributes to pathology rather than to protection in pulmonary TB. 相似文献

Background
Kallikrein 6 (KLK6) is a newly identified member of the kallikrein family of secreted serine proteases that prior studies indicate is elevated at sites of central nervous system (CNS) inflammation and which shows regulated expression with T cell activation. Notably, KLK6 is also elevated in the serum of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients however its potential roles in immune function are unknown. Herein we specifically examine whether KLK6 alters immune cell survival and the possible mechanism by which this may occur.Methodology/Principal Findings
Using murine whole splenocyte preparations and the human Jurkat T cell line we demonstrate that KLK6 robustly supports cell survival across a range of cell death paradigms. Recombinant KLK6 was shown to significantly reduce cell death under resting conditions and in response to camptothecin, dexamethasone, staurosporine and Fas-ligand. Moreover, KLK6-over expression in Jurkat T cells was shown to generate parallel pro-survival effects. In mixed splenocyte populations the vigorous immune cell survival promoting effects of KLK6 were shown to include both T and B lymphocytes, to occur with as little as 5 minutes of treatment, and to involve up regulation of the pro-survival protein B-cell lymphoma-extra large (Bcl-XL), and inhibition of the pro-apoptotic protein Bcl-2-interacting mediator of cell death (Bim). The ability of KLK6 to promote survival of splenic T cells was also shown to be absent in cell preparations derived from PAR1 deficient mice.Conclusion/Significance
KLK6 promotes lymphocyte survival by a mechanism that depends in part on activation of PAR1. These findings point to a novel molecular mechanism regulating lymphocyte survival that is likely to have relevance to a range of immunological responses that depend on apoptosis for immune clearance and maintenance of homeostasis. 相似文献5.

Human kallikrein 6 (hK6) is abundantly expressed in the central nervous system and is implicated in demyelinating disease. This study provided biochemical data about the substrate specificity and activation of hK6 by glycosaminoglycans and by kosmotropic salts, which followed the Hofmeister series. The screening of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) peptide families derived from Abz-KLRSSKQ-EDDnp resulted in the finding that Abz-AFRFSQ-EDDnp (where Abz is ortho-aminobenzoic acid and EDDnp is N-[2,4-dinitrophenyl]ethylenediamine)) is the best synthetic substrate described so far for hK6 (kcat/Km 38,667 s(-1) mm(-1)). It is noteworthy that the AFRFS sequence was found as a motif in the amino-terminal domain of seven human ionotropic glutamate receptor subunits. We also examined the hK6 hydrolytic activity on FRET peptides derived from human myelin basic protein, precursor of the Abeta amyloid peptide, reactive center loop of alpha1-antichymotrypsin, plasminogen, and maturation and inactivation cleavage sites of hK6, which were described earlier as natural substrates for hK6. The best substrates were derived from myelin basic protein. The hK6 maturation cleavage site was poorly hydrolyzed, and no evidence was found to support a two-step self-activation process reported previously. Finally, we assayed FRET peptides derived from sequences that span the cleavage sites for activation of protease-activated receptors (PAR) 1-4, and only the substrate with the PAR 2 sequence was hydrolyzed. These results further supported the hypothesis that hK6 expressed in the central nervous system is involved in normal myelin turnover/demyelination processes, but it is unlikely to self-activate. This report also suggested the possible modulation of ionotropic glutamate receptors and activation of PAR 2 by hK6. 相似文献

The human kallikrein-related peptidases (KLKs) comprise 15 members (KLK1-15) and are the single largest family of serine proteases. The KLKs are utilized, or proposed, as clinically important biomarkers and therapeutic targets of interest in cancer and neurodegenerative disease. All KLKs appear to be secreted as inactive pro-forms (pro-KLKs) that are activated extracellularly by specific proteolytic release of their N-terminal pro-peptide. This processing is a key step in the regulation of KLK function. Much recent work has been devoted to elucidating the potential for activation cascades between members of the KLK family, with physiologically relevant KLK regulatory cascades now described in skin desquamation and semen liquefaction. Despite this expanding knowledge of KLK regulation, details regarding the potential for functional intersection of KLKs with other regulatory proteases are essentially unknown. To elucidate such interaction potential, we have characterized the ability of proteases associated with thrombostasis to hydrolyze the pro-peptide sequences of the KLK family using a previously described pro-KLK fusion protein system. A subset of positive hydrolysis results were subsequently quantified with proteolytic assays using intact recombinant pro-KLK proteins. Pro-KLK6 and 14 can be activated by both plasmin and uPA, with plasmin being the best activator of pro-KLK6 identified to date. Pro-KLK11 and 12 can be activated by a broad-spectrum of thrombostasis proteases, with thrombin exhibiting a high degree of selectivity for pro-KLK12. The results show that proteases of the thrombostasis family can efficiently activate specific pro-KLKs, demonstrating the potential for important regulatory interactions between these two major protease families. 相似文献

Chromosome numbers were counted for 23 species of Crotalaria native to Brazil. Among these data there were new counts for 15 taxa, and some confirmed previous reports or represented numbers that were different from those cited previously. The chromosome numbers most frequently found were 2 n = 16 and 2 n = 32. Only C. incana L. had 2 n = 14 and C. tweediana Benth. had 2 n = 54. The counts 2 n = 32 and 54 were found in species of section Calycinae and 2 n = 16 and 14 in species of section Chrysocalycinae . The data revealed the importance of chromosomal parameters in the characterization of sections Calycinae and Chrysocalycinae in Brazil. We discuss the systematic significance and evolutionary aspects for the genus, comparing the results with the two sections that are native in Brazil. © 2006 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2006, 151 , 271–277. 相似文献

A total of 44 accessions of Brachiaria decumbens were analysed for chromosome count and meiotic behaviour in order to identify potential progenitors for crosses. Among them,
15 accessions presented 2n = 18; 27 accessions, 2n = 36; and 2 accessions, 2n = 45 chromosomes. Among the diploid accessions, the rate of meiotic abnormalities was low, ranging from 0.82% to 7.93%. In
the 27 tetraploid accessions, the rate of meiotic abnormalities ranged from 18.41% to 65.83%. The most common meiotic abnormalities
were related to irregular chromosome segregation, but chromosome stickiness and abnormal cytokinesis were observed in low
frequency. All abnormalities can compromise pollen viability by generating unbalanced gametes. Based on the chromosome number
and meiotic stability, the present study indicates the apomictic tetraploid accessions that can act as male genitor to produce
interspecific hybrids with B. ruziziensis or intraspecific hybrids with recently artificially tetraploidized accessions. 相似文献
