Although the phospholipase C (PLC)β-1 isoform is associated with spontaneous seizure and distinctively expressed in the telencephalon, the distribution of PLCβ-1 expression in the epileptic gerbil hippocampus remains controversial. Therefore, we determined whether PLCβ-1 is associated with spontaneous seizure in an animal model of genetic epilepsy. In the present study, PLCβ-1 immunoreactivity was down-regulated in seizure-sensitive (SS) gerbils more than in seizure-resistant (SR) gerbils. The expression of PLCβ-1 within calretinin (CR)- positive neurons was rarely detected within the dentate hilar region of SS gerbils. PLCβ-1 immunoreactivity in the hippocampus was significantly elevated as compared to that in pre-seizure SS gerbil 3 h post-ictal. These findings suggest that alterations in PLCβ-1 immunoreactivity in the SS gerbil hippocampus may be closely related to the epileptic state of the gerbil brain and transiently elevated PLCβ-1 protein levels following seizure episodes. Such alterations may be compensatory responses in the SS gerbil hippocampus.  相似文献

This is the first report of the occurrence of Perkinsus olseni in the Venus clam Protothaca jedoensis off the western and southern coasts of South Korea. Histological observations revealed Perkinsus-like organisms in the mantle, gills, digestive tubules, and gonad. Haemocytic infiltration and tissue necrosis were also observed in heavily infected clams. Hypnospore formation of the Perkinsus-like organism was confirmed with Ray's fluid thioglycollate medium assay (RFTM). When incubated in filtered and aerated seawater, the hypnospore gave rise to cell division and subsequently discharged hundreds of motile zoospores. Genus- and species-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays and the DNA sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of the Perkinsus sp. isolated from the Venus clam were identical to those of P. olseni reported from the Manila clam Venerupis (=Ruditapes)philippinarum. Based on the DNA sequences and microscopic data, the Perkinsus-like pathogen isolated from P. jedoensis was identified as P. olseni, which parasitizes the Manila clam in European and Asian waters and Haliotis rubra (abalone) in Australian waters. The prevalence and infection intensity of a clam population collected from Yosu, Korea, was determined using RFTM and Choi's 2M NaOH digestion technique. The intensities averaged 10,768 and 7438 Perkinsus cells per gram tissue in 2003 and 2004, and the prevalence ranged from 37.0 to 53.9%, respectively.  相似文献

The feeding basket morphology and stomach content analyses of five Euphausia species (E. recurva, E. nana, E. pacifica, E. mutica and E. similis) were compared to elucidate their feeding ecology. The filter areas of feeding basket of E. pacifica and E. nana were proportionally larger than those of others in the size classes 13-20 mm and <13 mm, respectively, suggesting a high filtering efficiency in these species at each size class. Based on the secondary setal distance, it is suggested that there are three types of feeding basket in five Euphausia species. One is the fine mesh (<5 μm) of E. pacifica and E. nana; a second is the medium (10-20 μm) of E. recurva and E. mutica; and the third is the coarse (20-30 μm) of E. similis. The ability to feed on particles <5 μm would give both species, E. pacifica and E. nana, a great advantage over other species when number of flagellates is high. Stomach content analyses indicated a more omnivorous feeding mode in E. mutica, E. recurva and E. similis and a more herbivorous in E. pacifica and E. nana. This is in agreement with morphological studies of feeding baskets. Increments in the primary and secondary setal distances with increasing size of four Euphausia species, except E. pacifica, were evident, reflecting interspecific differences in food particle sizes utilized. In E. pacifica, however, the morphological similarity should produce intraspecific competition in diet.
