Hands can be used to demonstrate the three-point model of chiral recognition. The points of attachment are thumb, forefinger, and middle finger. This vivid model has the advantages of simplicity, perspicuity, and availability at any time, although two persons are necessary. It can be shown that two interactions are not sufficient for chiral recognition but that three attractive or two attractive and one repulsive attraction are needed. It can also be used to explain some possibilities of weakening or elusion of the three-point model.  相似文献

The designing of metal-based anticancer therapeutic agents can be optimized in a better and rapid way if the ligands utilized have standalone properties. Therefore, even when the organometallic/coordination complex (i.e., metallodrug) gets dissociated in extreme conditions, the ligand can endorse its biological properties. Herein, we have synthesized and characterized ?6-p-cymene ruthenium diclofenac complex. Furthermore, the ruthenium complex interactions with human serum albumin (HSA) and ct-DNA have been studied using various spectroscopic studies viz., UV, fluorescence, and circular dichroism and exhibited a significant binding propensity. Furthermore, in vitro cytotoxicity assays were carried out against human breast cancer “MCF-7” cell line. The ?6-p-cymene ruthenium diclofenac complex registered significant cytotoxicity with an IC50 value of ~25.0?µM which is comparable to the standard drugs. The ?6-p-cymene ruthenium diclofenac complex was able to decrease the MCF-7 cell proliferation and induced significant levels of apoptosis with relatively low toxicity.  相似文献

IntroductionBronchiectasis is a chronic disease of the lungs by repeated respiratory infection. An early and adequate diagnosis and management reduce the morbidity and mortality of this disease. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of the combination of Computer Tomography (CT) and lung perfusion scan (SPP) in the diagnosis and therapeutic approach.Materials and methodsForty-three children were referred in the nuclear medicine department with a clinical diagnosis of bronchiectasis; they underwent a CT and a SPP.Results and conclusionBy analyzing the results of the SPP and CT separately, we conclude that there is no significant difference between the two investigations. The combination of the two explorations provides a gain in most surgical therapeutic orientation.  相似文献

Wireless networks experience a high level of errors and losses. These physical layer characteristics have an impact on the performance of the higher layers. In addition, the performance of each protocol layer is contingent on the behavior of the other layers. Vertical dependency is a term which describes this inter-dependence between layers. In the wireless and mobile environment, the effects of vertical dependence are particularly pronounced due to the dynamic nature of the environment and due to the fact that traditional assumptions about protocol layer interactions do not always hold. In this paper, we consider the vertical dependencies between various layers in the protocol stack, studying the performance of the Network File System under various error models and improvement techniques. Our experimental results demonstrate the dependency of the application performance on the details of the error characteristics and other protocol layers. After studying the vertical dependencies, we improve NFS performance by implementing changes to the application level reliability mechanisms. Understanding of the vertical dependencies enables development of effective methods for performance enhancement and efficient reaction to errors and changes on the wireless media. The present work examined the effect of chronic oral administration of quercetin, a flavonoid antioxidant, on blood glucose, vascular function and oxidative stress in STZ-induced diabetic rats. Male Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats were randomized into euglycemic, untreated diabetic, vehicle (1% w/v methylcellulose)-treated diabetic, which served as control, or quercetin (10mgkg(-1) body weight)-treated diabetic groups and treated orally for 6 weeks. Quercetin treatment reduced blood glucose level in diabetic rats. Impaired relaxations to endothelium-dependent vasodilator acetylcholine (ACh) and enhanced vasoconstriction responses to alpha(1)-adrenoceptor agonist phenylephrine (PE) in diabetic rat aortic rings were restored to euglycemic levels by quercetin treatment. Pretreatment with N(omega)-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME, 10microM) or methylene blue (10microM) completely blocked but indomethacin (10microM) did not affect relaxations to ACh in aortic rings from vehicle- or quercetin-treated diabetic rats. PE-induced vasoconstriction with an essentially similar magnitude in vehicle- or quercetin-treated diabetic rat aortic rings pretreated with l-NAME (10microM) plus indomethacin (10microM). Quercetin treatment reduced plasma malonaldehyde (MDA) plus 4-hydroxyalkenals (4-HNE) content as well as increased superoxide dismutase activity and total antioxidant capacity in diabetic rats. From the present study, it can be concluded that quercetin administration to diabetic rats restores vascular function, probably through enhancement in the bioavailability of endothelium-derived nitric oxide coupled to reduced blood glucose level and oxidative stress.  相似文献

Carbocyclic 6-benzylthioinosine analogues were synthesized and evaluated for their binding affinity against Toxoplasma gondii adenosine kinase [EC.2.7.1.20]. Various substituents on the aromatic ring of the 6-benzylthio group resulted in increased binding affinity to the enzyme as compared to the unsubstituted compound. Carbocyclic 6-(p-methylbenzylthio)inosine 9n exhibited the most potent binding affinity. Docking simulations were performed to position compound 9n into the T. gondii adenosine kinase active site to determine the probable binding mode. Experimental investigations and theoretical calculations further support that an oxygen atom of the sugar is not critical for the ligand-binding. In agreement with its binding affinity, carbocyclic 6-(p-methylbenzylthio)inosine 9n demonstrated significant anti-toxoplasma activity (IC50 = 11.9 μM) in cell culture without any apparent host-toxicity.  相似文献

Aim A large body of knowledge exists on individual anthropogenic threats that have an impact on marine biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea, although we know little about how these threats accumulate and interact to affect marine species and ecosystems. In this context, we aimed to identify the main areas where the interaction between marine biodiversity and threats is more pronounced and to assess their spatial overlap with current marine protected areas in the Mediterranean. Location Mediterranean Sea. Methods We first identified areas of high biodiversity of marine mammals, marine turtles, seabirds, fishes and commercial or well‐documented invertebrates. We mapped potential areas of high threat where multiple threats are occurring simultaneously. Finally we quantified the areas of conservation concern for biodiversity by looking at the spatial overlap between high biodiversity and high cumulative threats, and we assessed the overlap with protected areas. Results Our results show that areas with high marine biodiversity in the Mediterranean Sea are mainly located along the central and north shores, with lower values in the south‐eastern regions. Areas of potential high cumulative threats are widespread in both the western and eastern basins, with fewer areas located in the south‐eastern region. The interaction between areas of high biodiversity and threats for invertebrates, fishes and large animals in general (including large fishes, marine mammals, marine turtles and seabirds) is concentrated in the coastal areas of Spain, Gulf of Lions, north‐eastern Ligurian Sea, Adriatic Sea, Aegean Sea, south‐eastern Turkey and regions surrounding the Nile Delta and north‐west African coasts. Areas of concern are larger for marine mammal and seabird species. Main conclusions These areas may represent good candidates for further research, management and protection activities, since there is only a maximum 2% overlap between existing marine protected areas (which cover 5% of the Mediterranean Sea) and our predicted areas of conservation concern for biodiversity.  相似文献

Integrin CD18, a component of the LFA-1 complex that also includes CD11a, is essential for Th2, but not Th1, cell homing, but the explanation for this phenomenon remains obscure. In this study, we investigate the mechanism by which Th2 effector responses require the LFA-1 complex. CD11a-deficient T cells showed normal in vitro differentiation and function. However, Th2 cell-dependent allergic lung disease was markedly reduced in CD11a null mice and wild-type mice given LFA-1 inhibitors, whereas control of infection with Leishmania major, a Th1-dependent response, was enhanced. In both disease models, recruitment of IL-4-, but not IFN-gamma-secreting cells to relevant organs was impaired, as was adhesion of Th2 cells in vitro. These diverse findings were explained by the markedly reduced expression of CD29, an alternate homing integrin, on Th2, but not Th1, cells, which precludes Th2 homing in the absence of CD11a. Thus, murine Th1 and Th2 cells use distinct integrins for homing, suggesting novel opportunities for integrin-based therapeutic intervention in diverse human ailments influenced by Th2 cells.  相似文献
