The occurrence of growth regulators active in the Avena coleoptile straight-growth test in sprouting buds and seedlings of Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst.) was investigated. The acid ether fraction contained a growth stimulator, the Rf of which in isopropanol: ammonia: water was 0.2–0.4. This substance behaved as indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in elec-trophoresis, in chromatography in various solvent systems on paper and on a Sephadex column. It gave the colour typical of IAA when sprayed with Ehrlich reagent and its fluorescence characteristics corresponded to IAA. Acid ether-soluble inhibitors showed most activity at Rf 0.4–0.7, but due to tailing they interfered with the determination of the stimulator at the Rf of IAA in the bioassay. They also masked the activity of other stimulators. Colour reactions were obtained with Ehrlich reagent in the inhibiting chromatogram zone. When eluates from this zone were tested in high dilutions or after gel filtration growth stimulation was obtained. The acid fraction of seedling shoots also contained a stimulator with Rf 0.7–0.8. In the neutral-basic ether-soluble fraction growth stimulation was obtained at Rf 0.5–0.7. The extracts also contained stimulatory substances insoluble in ether but soluble in n-butanol and partly in ethyl acetate. When the butanol fraction was hydrolyzed in 1 M NaOH a substance behaving as IAA when chromatographed was released.  相似文献

Fishes of the order Alepocephaliformes, slickheads and tubeshoulders, constitute a group of deep‐sea fishes poorly known in respect to most areas of their biology and systematics. Morphological studies have found alepocephaliform fishes to display a mosaic of synapomorphic and symplesiomorphic characters, resulting in great difficulties when attempting to resolve intra‐ and interrelationships. Molecular data recently added to the confusion by removing Alepocephaliformes from the Euteleostei and placed them as incertae sedis within the Otocephala. In the present study we attempt to further clarify relationships of Alepocephaliformes by adding newly determined whole mitogenome sequences from 19 alepocephaliforms in order to address 1) phylogenetic position of Alepocephaliformes within the Otocephala; and 2) intrarelationships of Alepocephaliformes. The present study includes 96 taxa of which 30 are alepocephaliforms and unambiguously aligned sequences were subjected to partitioned maximum likelihood and Bayesian analyses. Results from the present study support Alepocephaliformes as a genetically distinct otocephalan order as sister clade to Ostariophysi (mostly freshwater fishes comprising Gonorynchiformes, Cypriniformes, Characiformes, Siluriformes and Gymnotiformes). The disputed family Bathylaconidae was found to be an artificial assemblage of the two genera Bathylaco and Herwigia, with the former as the sister group of the family Alepocephalidae and the latter nested within Alepocephalidae. Platytroctidae was found to be monophyletic as sister clade to the rest of Alepocephaliformes. Previously unrecognized clades within the family Alepocephalidae are presented and a clade comprising Alepocephalus, Conocara and Leptoderma was recovered as the most derived. As long as the current classification is being followed, the genera Alepocephalus, Bathytroctes, Conocara and Narcetes were all found non‐monophyletic. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 98 , 923–936.  相似文献

Abstract: The eastern diamondback rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus) and timber rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) are sympatric throughout most of southern Georgia, USA. We used rattlesnake sightings to quantify and compare habitat use by these 2 species in the Gulf Coastal Plain. At the largest scale examined, univariate statistics and logistic regression models indicated that eastern diamondback rattlesnakes were associated with roads but not with any of the specific habitat types we examined. In contrast, timber rattlesnakes were closely associated with hardwood habitat and riverine systems but not with roads and edges. To effectively conserve and manage both species in the Southeast, a habitat matrix of large intact patches of both hardwood and pine (Pinus spp.) forest may be necessary.  相似文献

Saxifraga opdolensis was described from Oppdal in southern Norway and hypothesized to have originated as the hybrid S. cernua × rivularis or to have been derived from a S . cernua-like progenitor. We tested these alternative hypotheses using uni- and biparentally inherited molecular markers observed in S. opdalensis and its putative parental species at the type locality: PCR-RFLPs (restriction fragment length polymorphisms in amplified fragments of chloroplast DNA; cpDNA), sequences of the cpDNA intron trnL and the spacer tmL-tmF , and RAPDs (random amplified polymorphic DNAs). The data provided unambiguous support for the hybrid hypothesis. The cpDNA analyses distinguished two well-differentiated chloroplast genomes, one in S. opdalensis and S. rivularis , and another in S. cernua . The majority of the RAPD markers showed distinct additivity in S. opdalensis relative to its postulated parental species. Thus, S. opdalensis has probably originated from a hybrid with S. rivularis as the maternal parent and S. cernua as the paternal parent. We also included S. svalbaardnsis in the present study because previous molecular analyses of Svalbard material have shown that this species had probably also originated as a hybrid between S. cernua and S. rivularis . The chloroplast genome of S. svalbaardnsis was identical to that of S. opdalensis , but the two species differed in many RAF'D markers. Although these two endemics probably have been derived from the same hybrid combination, they are morphologically and genetically distinct and should be referred to separate species. Differences between such independently originated hybrid taxa may result from intraspecific variation in their parental taxa. Saxufraga cernua comprises, for example, several highly divergent evolutionary lineages.  相似文献

Over 50 B-cell derived lines and B-cell lymphoma and leukemia biopsies were screened for expression of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) receptor. The 13 sIgM-positive lines bound more than five times as much virus as the six IgG lines. Among the biopsies, the 17 sIgM, 11 sIgM and sIgD, and seven sIgG expressing biopsies were further divided according to expression of the C3 receptor. C3 receptor-positive biopsies, which expressed sIgM alone or along with sIgD, had the largest subpopulation of cells which expressed the EBV receptor (EBVR). C3 receptor-negative biopsies only expressed the EBVR on half as many cells as their C3 receptor-positive counterparts. However, the relative number of EBVR on individual EBVR-positive cells was independent of C3 receptor expression. Within the sIgG class, both C3 receptor-negative and positive cells expressed equally low levels of EBVR, both in terms of subpopulation and relative number of EBVR per positive cell. These results suggest that subpopulation expression of the EBV receptor is related to the C3 receptor but that relative number of receptors per cell is associated with sIg phenotype.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

During territorial behaviour and pair formation willow ptarmigan cocks and hens use several different calls. Cocks use mainly a “flight call”, a “ground call” and three different “threat calls”. Hens give similar calls to cocks. It is suggested that the structure of the calls is well adapted to (1) transmit their possible information content over long distances, and (2) make localization easier for birds during the territorial display periods, which take place mainly in poor light at dusk and dawn. We also suggest that the cock and hen calls express different degrees of aggressiveness, and that hen calls, in addition to attracting cocks, function as territorial “keep out” signals to other hens.  相似文献
