The effect of hypothalamus electrical stimulation on total protein biosynthesis was studied in skeletal muscle, heart, liver, adrenal cortex and thyroid gland of adult rats. In adult animals hypothalamus stimulation provokes a pronounced increase in 3H-leucine incorporation into total protein of all tissues, as well as into liver chromatin proteins. No significant changes were observed in protein biosynthesis when hypothalamus of old rats was stimulated. This can serve as evidence of age-related decrease in the ability of the hypothalamus to stimulate protein synthesis in peripheral tissues. 相似文献

Abstract. 1. Molecular techniques have greatly added to the number of known sympatric cryptic species in insects. Ecological differences between these newly distinguished species are little explored, but niches often appear to overlap strongly. These cases are good models for exploring new ideas about species coexistence and community structure.
2. Acanthoscelides obtectus and A. obvelatus are two sister species of bean bruchids, which have been confused until the last decade. One important ecological difference between them has emerged, however: A. obtectus is multivoltine and now distributed worldwide, whereas A. obvelatus is univoltine and restricted to Mesoamerica. Where their ranges overlap, the two species share the same host plants and larvae can sometimes complete development in the same seed.
3. The analysis of 27 622 Mexican individuals of the two species in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 indicates that their niches overlap, but are differentiated with respect to altitude and the kind of beans (wild vs. domesticated). The principal patterns in their relative abundance in different habitats, and at different seasons, were constant from one year to the next.
4. As sympatry of these species seems to be of recent origin, the observed niche differentiation may not have evolved in response to competition, but could instead be the consequence of physiological differences, evolved independently in each species in allopatry, that pre-adapted them for different altitudes and kinds of resources.
5. The combination of biological and historical factors thus appears to allow these two sibling species to coexist in sympatry, despite their broadly overlapping ecological niches. 相似文献

In the experiments performed on adult and aged rats, the effect of morphine on the electrical activity, recorded from the emotion-producing zones of the hypothalamus, the ventromedial nucleus (VMN), and the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA), was studied. In thein vitro experiments, an age-dependent reduction of background impulse activity (BIA) was found in the VMN single neurons, but not in the LHA neurons. Morphine reduced BIA in most of the VMN neurons, but enhanced it in the LHA neurons of adult rats, and enhanced BIA in the neurons of both structures of the aged rats. The inhibitory effect of morphine on the VMN and LHA neurons and its excitatory effect on the LHA neurons decreased with age. In thein vivo experiments, an age-dependent reduction of the background field electrical activity (background electrogram, BEG) was found in the neurons of both emotion-producing zones. Morphine reduced the BEG magnitude in the VMN and LHA more effectively in the aged rats than in the adult rats. In experiments on adult (9-10 months) and old (24-26 months) white Wistar rats behavioural manifestations under electrical stimulation of the ventromedial hypothalamus nucleus and self-stimulation (SS) of the lateral hypothalamic region were studied. It has been found that with age electrical thresholds of negative emotional manifestations decrease with invariable SS thresholds. In old rats, in comparison with the adult ones, SS frequency is lower, maximum SS proceeds at lower currents, the range of currents capable to evoke an intensive SS is narrower, SS motivational component is less expressed. The obtained data testify that in old rats there exist neurophysiological preconditions for prevailing of negative emotional manifestations. 相似文献

Using microbeam to irradiate human-hamster hybrid AL cells with defined number of a particles in a highly localized spatial region, this paper showed that cytoplasmic irradiation induced very little toxicity. For example, the cell killing by 4α particle traversal through the cytoplasm was about 10%, and about 70% cells survived after their cytoplasm was irradiated with 32 a particles. In contrast, the survival fractions for nuclear irradiation at the same doses were 35% and less than 1% respectively. Mutation induction showed that while nuclear irradiation induced 3-4-fold more CD59- mutants than cytoplasmic irradiation at equivalent particle traversal, at an equitoxic dose level of 90% survival, the latter exposure mode induced 3.3-fold more mutants than nuclear irradiation. Moreover, using multiplex PCR to analyze five marker genes on chromosome 11 (WT, CAT, PTH, APO-A1 and RAS), the results showed that the majority of mutants induced by cytoplasmic irradiation had retained all of the marker genes ana 相似文献

Experiments were carried out on adult young (6- to-9-month-old) and old (28- to-30-month-old) rats. The effects of a single
i.p. injection of morphine on self-stimulation of the lateral hypothalamic region and on active avoidance responses evoked
by stimulation of the ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus were studied. In a separate series of the experiments we studied age-related
specificities of the abolition syndrome after a course of intraventricular injections of morphine. In most old rats single
injections of morphine resulted in intensification of self-stimulation, while in most adult rats such injections suppressed
this reaction. In old animals injections of morphine resulted in more pronounced increases in the threshold and latency of
the active avoidance responses, as compared with similar changes in adult rats. Natural abolition of a 15-day-long course
of injections of morphine resulted in the development of a characteristic abstinent syndrome that was more intensively manifested
in old rats. Our results show that “hedonic” and anti-aversive effects of morphine increase with aging; this phenomenon probably
facilitates the development of morphine dependence in old organisms. 相似文献
