The present study depicts the presence of a gradient in the morphological characters ofThymelaea hirsuta (L.)Endl. leaves which correlated with the environmental gradient prevailing in the Western Mediterranean region of Egypt. The less arid and more calcareous habitats harbour individuals with obtuse and gentle curved leaf apices and gentle involute leaf margins. With the increase of aridity and decrease of CaCO3, the leaf apices become acute and strongly curved, and the leaf margins become strongly involuted. Significant variations in seed weight, seedling emergence and viability of seed embryos inT. hirsuta, in relation to habitat types, are also shown and discussed.  相似文献

Abstract. Germination and developmental behaviour during juvenile stages are of importance in relation to succession mechanisms acting on plant communities. This is particularly so in the Mediterranean region, where the climatic summer drought causes stress. We investigated and compared germination and development of four tree species in two parts of the French Mediterranean region where the original dominant tree species (Quercus pubescens) has been largely replaced by Quercus ilex in the southern part, and Castanea sativa in the northern part. Observed differences in germination rates and developmental behaviour, especially shootroot ratio and the role of water supply, suggest that other species may eventually replace the current dominant species.  相似文献

Five polymorphic enzymatic loci were studied in 30 populations of Quercus ilex distributed from Crete to North Africa. A high within-population genetic diversity was found for each locus studied. Most of the alleles were common to all the populations, indicating that the holm oak corresponds to a single genetic entity. Observation of breeding system characteristics showed that the holm oak is monoecious, wind-pollinated, and likely to possess genetic autoincompatibility. Furthermore, studies of flowering phenology in a single population showed that the period of flowering varied notably among trees. An average of 29% of the trees showed inter-annual variation in flowering time. The male, female or vegetative investment also varied widely among trees from one year to another. This results in a diversification of pollen source received by a given tree each year, and also from one year to another.  相似文献

The genus Lavandula is known for its different uses in traditional medicine. This study is interested in the chemical composition of Lavandulapedunculata subsp.atlantica (Braun‐Blanq. ) Romo as well as evaluating its antibacterial potential against multi‐resistant strains. The analysis of Lavandulaatlantica essential oil (LAEO) allows the identification of 47 components representing 93.6 % of all identified. The main constituent of LAEO was camphor (50.4 %), followed by fenchone (14.1 %) and camphene (5.6 %). The antibacterial assays revealed that LAEO was active against all the studied bacteria. A preliminary study of the relationship between certain terpenoids and antibacterial activity was also carried out in order to note the compound(s) that are responsible for LAEO's antibacterial activity. This study showed that the activity of the essential oil may be due to the presence of certain minor compounds such as carvone, considering the presence of the synergistic effect between the essential oil.  相似文献

Understanding how ecological traits have changed over evolutionary time is a fundamental question in biology. Specifically, the extent to which more closely related organisms share similar ecological preferences due to phylogenetic conservation – or if they are forced apart by competition – is still debated. Here, we explored the co-occurrence patterns of freshwater cyanobacteria at the sub-genus level to investigate whether more closely related taxa share more similar niches and to what extent these niches were defined by abiotic or biotic variables. We used deep 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and measured several abiotic environmental parameters (nutrients, temperature, etc.) in water samples collected over time and space in Furnas Reservoir, Brazil. We found that relatively more closely related Synechococcus (in the continuous range of 93%–100% nucleotide identity in 16S) had an increased tendency to co-occur with one another (i.e. had similar realized niches). This tendency could not be easily explained by shared preferences for measured abiotic niche dimensions. Thus, commonly measured abiotic parameters might not be sufficient to characterize, nor to predict community assembly or dynamics. Rather, co-occurrence between Synechococcus and the surrounding community (whether or not they represent true biological interactions) may be a more sensitive measure of realized niches. Overall, our results suggest that realized niches are phylogenetically conserved, at least at the sub-genus level and at the resolution of the 16S marker. Determining how these results generalize to other genera and at finer genetic resolution merits further investigation.  相似文献

All molybdoenzyme activities are absent in chlB mutants because of their inability to synthesize molybdopterin guanine dinucleotide, which together with molybdate constitutes the molybdenum cofactor in Escherichia coli. The chlB mutants are able to synthesize molybdopterin. We have previously shown that the inactive nitrate reductase present in a chlB mutant can be activated in a process requiring protein FA and a heat-stable low-molecular-weight substance. We show here that purified nitrate reductase from the soluble fraction of a chlB mutant can be partially activated in a process that requires protein FA, GTP, and an additional protein termed factor X. It appears that the molybdopterin present in the nitrate reductase of a chlB mutant is converted to molybdopterin guanine dinucleotide during activation. The activation is absolutely dependent upon both protein FA and factor X. Factor X activity is present in chlA, chlB, chlE, and chlG mutants.  相似文献

Abstract. Germination of Quercus ilex L. in coppice stands of this species in the western Mediterranean Basin was examined and a germination inhibitory process is proposed to explain some germination traits. Germination rate and seedling biomass of Q. ilex were greatly modified by watering acorns with various concentrations of aqueous soil extracts from a Q. ilex coppice stand but also when the acorns were sown in soil from Q. ilex coppice stands. In the aqueous extract experiment, Q. ilex germination and seedling weight both decreased as the aqueous extract concentration increased. In the soil type experiment, Q. ilex soil decreased the Q. ilex germination rate. Comparative studies with Q. pubescens germination (this species, replaced by Q. ilex around 5 000 B.P., is assumed to form the climax vegetation of the region) revealed that Q. pubescens was less sensitive to the aqueous extracts and soils of Q. ilex coppice stands. Inhibition of Q. ilex seed germination could be a major reason for the poor seed regeneration and suggested a possible comeback of Q. pubescens.  相似文献

Summary An organization for data-processing in phyto-sociology and plant ccology is deseribed. A good preparation by means of standard sheets for collecting and codifying information from the field is emphasized (Fig. 1). Fig. 2–5 present the arrangement and the logical sequence of the different methods of data analysis (ecological profiles, factor analysis,...) which allows the study of the relations between environmental and floristical variables, in a quick and efficient way. Cooperation with the Ecothèque méditerranéene at Montpellier is both necessary and fruitful. One example is presented using the selection e of 58 relevés of salt marsh vegetation retained by the Working Group for Data-Processing of the International Society for Vegetation Science.
Résumé Les auteurs proposent ici une organisation du traitement des données en phytosociologie et phyto-écologie. L'organisation repose sur un système bien développé pour rassembler et codifier l'information des reléves. (fig.1). Un ordinogramme (Fig. 2–5) présente l'agencement et l'enchaînement des différentes méthodes d'analyse des données (profils écologiques, analyse factorielle, ...) qui permettent d'étudier les relations entre variables du milieu et variables floristiques. La conception de l'enchaînement des fichiers et des programmes de traitement permet d'aboutir assez rapidement aux résultats, facilitant ainsi la tâche du phytosociologue et du phyto-écologue. Ce travail a été réalisé en commun entre le C.E.P.E. Louis Emberger et l'Ecothèque méditerranéenne conduisant à une coopération nécessaire et utile. Une exemple est traité utilissant la sélection e de 58 relevés de milieux salés, sélection retenue par le groupe de travail traitement des données en phytosociologie de l'Association internationale de phytosociologie.
