Zusammenfassung Unter Berücksichtigung des Fruchtformindexes h/Ø der einzelnen Frucht kann man den Volumzuwachs beliebig zusammengesetzter Gruppen von Früchten an verschiedenen Bäumen vergleichen. Bei der Berechnung der Zuwachsraten des Fruchtvolumens braucht man nur Durchmesser und Höhe der Früchte zu kennen, um das tatsächliche Volumen in guter Annäherung zu berechnen. Die Daten der Regression des Korrekturfaktors für das Volumen (K ) auf den Fruchtformindex werden für vier Sorten stark unterschiedlicher Fruchtform angegeben. Das Volumen der Frucht wird nach folgender Formel berechnet: V = 4/3 · · r 3 · K . Vergleichende Untersuchungen über die Zuwachsrate verschiedener Sorten können bei Verwendung der sortentypischen Regressionen durchgeführt werden.
A method for approximate calculation of fruit volume in apples
Summary Growth rates of fruit volume can be determined more precisely by using the index h/Ø (length of fruit/diameter) than by simply calculating the volume of a sphere based on the measured diameter. Fruit volume is to be calculated by: V = 4/3 · · r 3 · K K is the factor of deviation of fruit shape from a sphere. K is given for 4 different varieties with varying shape of fruits (Echter Winterglockenapfel, Golden Delicious, Cox Orange Pippin and Ingrid Marie). The increase in volume of any group of apples within one variety or of different varieties can be compared by means of the specific regression of h/Ø to K .

KRE6 encodes a predicted type II membrane protein which, when disrupted, results in a slowly growing, killer toxin-resistant mutant possessing half the normal level of a structurally wild-type cell wall (1-->6)-beta-glucan (T. Roemer and H. Bussey, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 88:11295-11299, 1991). The mutant phenotype and structure of the KRE6 gene product, Kre6p, suggest that it may be a beta-glucan synthase component, implying that (1-->6)-beta-glucan synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae is functionally redundant. To examine this possibility, we screened a multicopy genomic library for suppression of both the slow-growth and killer resistance phenotypes of a kre6 mutant and identified SKN1, which encodes a protein sharing 66% overall identity to Kre6p. SKN1 suppresses kre6 null alleles in a dose-dependent manner, though disruption of the SKN1 locus has no effect on killer sensitivity, growth, or (1-->6)-beta-glucan levels. skn1 kre6 double disruptants, however, showed a dramatic reduction in both (1-->6)-beta-glucan levels and growth rate compared with either single disruptant. Moreover, the residual (1-->6)-beta-glucan polymer in skn1 kre6 double mutants is smaller in size and altered in structure. Since single disruptions of these genes lead to structurally wild-type (1-->6)-beta-glucan polymers, Kre6p and Skn1p appear to function independently, possibly in parallel, in (1-->6)-beta-glucan biosynthesis.  相似文献

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae KRE1 gene encodes a secretory protein required for the production of the cell wall polymer (1 6)--glucan. Here we report further characterization of the KRE1 gene product, Krelp. A functional, epitope-tagged Krelp is shown to be highly modified in a SEC53-dependent manner. Krelp is O-glycosylated, but the basis for the majority of its post-translational modification is unknown. Fractionation of Kre1p reveals a cell wall-associated form and a less abundant membrane-associated species. Indirect immunoflurorescence demonstrates that Kre1p localizes to the cell surface, where it becomes concentrated at the surface of mother cells. Such a localization of Kre1p seems to parallel the CAL1/CSD2-dependent cell wall deposition of chitin found in S. cerevisiae, and is consistent with evidence from Schizophyllum commune that (1 6)--glucan accumulates during maturation of the subapical region of the wall distal to the hyphal tip.  相似文献

Several three-dimensional vascular models have been developed to study the effects of adding equations for large blood vessels to the traditional bioheat transfer equation of Pennes when simulating tissue temperature distributions. These vascular models include "transiting" vessels, "supplying" arteries, and "draining" veins, for all of which the mean temperature of the blood in the vessels is calculated along their lengths. For the supplying arteries this spatially variable temperature is then used as the arterial temperature in the bioheat transfer equation. The different vascular models produce significantly different locations for both the maximum tumor and the maximum normal tissue temperatures for a given power deposition pattern. However, all of the vascular models predict essentially the same cold regions in the same locations in tumors: one set at the tumors' corners and another around the inlets of the large blood vessels to the tumor. Several different power deposition patterns have been simulated in an attempt to eliminate these cold regions; uniform power in the tumor, annular power in the tumor, preheating of the blood in the vessels while they are traversing the normal tissue, and an "optimal" power pattern which combines the best features of the above approaches. Although the calculations indicate that optimal power deposition patterns (which improve the temperature distributions) exist for all of the vascular models, none of the heating patterns studied eliminated all of the cold regions. Surfactant protein-A (SP-A) belongs to a family of collagen-containing C-type lectins called collectins. SP-A is expressed by renal tubule epithelial cells. We investigated the distribution of SP-A in renal cell carcinomas (RCC) using immunohistochemical techniques and western blotting. We used 35 formalin fixed, paraffin embedded (FFPE) RCC tissue samples. We compared results with clinico-pathological parameters of RCC including age, sex, Fuhrman grade, tumor volume, tumor node metastasis (TNM) and clinical stage. SP-A was localized in the glomerulus and renal tubule epithelium in nontumor tissue and strong SP-A immunoreactivity was observed in tumor tissue. SP-A was expressed in the RCC tumor cells (64%) and nontumor cells (34%) in males and RCC tumor cells (90%) and nontumor cells (30%) in females. There was a significant correlation between SP-A immunoreactivity in tumor cells and gender, age, tumor diameter, Fuhrman grade and tumor diameter. Western blot analysis supported the immunohistochemical findings. We present evidence for involvement of SP-A in RCC and suggest that increased SP-A expression in RCC is associated with favorable prognosis.  相似文献

In a three-hour bioassay, we tested the palatability and feeding preferences of Uresiphita maorialis (kōwhai moth) for Sophora tetraptera, Sophora microphylla and Sophora prostrata. Palatability tests showed no differences among the Sophora species. Feeding preferences, on the other hand, showed that S. tetraptera and S. microphylla leaves are preferred over S. prostrata leaves. Our results support our field observations in Wellington city parks and gardens showing that S. tetraptera and S. microphylla plants frequently have higher densities of larvae than S. prostrata.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effect of unilateral and bilateral resistance exercise (RE) on maximal voluntary strength, total volume of load lifted (TVLL), rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and blood lactate concentration of resistance-trained males. Twelve healthy men were assessed for the leg extension one-repetition maximum (1RM) strength using bilateral and unilateral contractions. Following this assessment, an RE session (3 sets of repetitions to failure) was conducted with bilateral and unilateral (both limbs) contractions using a load of 50% 1RM. The TVLL was calculated by the product of the number of repetitions and the load lifted per repetition. RPE and blood lactate were measured before, during and after each set. Session RPE was measured 30 minutes after RE sessions. There was a significant difference in the bilateral (120.0±11.9) and unilateral (135.0±20.2 kg) 1RM strength (p < 0.05). The TVLL was similar between both RE sessions. Although the repetitions decreased with each successive set, the total number of repetitions completed in the bilateral protocol (48) was superior to the unilateral (40) protocol (p < 0.05). In both bouts, RPE increased with each subsequent set whilst blood lactate increased after set 1 and thereafter remained stable (p < 0.05). The RPE and lactate responses were not significantly different between both sessions. In conclusion, a bilateral deficit in leg extension strength was confirmed, but the TVLL was similar between both RE sessions when exercising to voluntary fatigue. This outcome could be attributed to the number of repetitions completed in the unilateral RE bout. The equal TVLL would also explain the similar perceptual and metabolic responses across each RE session.  相似文献

Life history theory predicts that individuals should maximize lifetime reproductive success (LRS) by breeding as soon as they reach sexual maturity, yet many species delay breeding, either because there are insufficient available mates or breeding sites, or because delayed breeding yields higher LRS. Accipitriform species, such as Cooper's Hawk Accipiter cooperii, exhibit both delayed breeding and delayed plumage maturation. However, in certain circumstances, first‐year females in non‐definitive plumage do breed and apparently compete with older females for high‐quality breeding territories. We predicted that these young females are at a competitive disadvantage compared with older females and that older females would have both higher reproductive success and be able to acquire higher quality nesting territories. We conducted brood counts and measured prey delivery rates by male Cooper's Hawks in an expanding urban population located in Albuquerque, New Mexico (USA), to assess our prediction. We found that older females had higher reproductive success, fledging 1.6 more offspring than younger females, and that they occupied territories where males provisioned at higher rates of 0.37 more prey items per 2‐h period. Our results showed that older females fared better than first‐year females but it is unclear if this is the result of passive or active competition. Older females initiated nesting 14.3 days sooner than first‐year females and thus may have filled vacant, high‐quality territories before first‐year females began seeking mates. Additionally, first‐year females were never observed persistently to confront older females for breeding territories, but they did actively compete against each other. First‐year females may defer to older females who, in a direct competitive interaction, would be most likely to prevail. Thus, delayed plumage maturation in Cooper's Hawks may serve to focus competition for nesting territories within age classes.  相似文献
