Extracellular matrix formation (ECM) and remodeling are critical events related to the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis. Matrix metalloproteinases play an essential role in degrading and remodeling the ECM. In this study, we tried to show the presence and correlation of promatrix metalloproteinase-3 (proMMP-3) (the inactive form of metalloproteinase-3) levels in coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP) with different categories. The study population consisted of 44 coal miners with CWP (pos CWP). Coal miners without CWP (neg CWP, n = 24) and non-underground personnel (controls, n = 17) were taken as controls. All coal miners were stable and had no systemic infection or disease. Standard posterio-anterior chest radiographs and pulmonary function tests were performed to exclude any diseases other than CWP. Serum proMMP-3 was analysed using the sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay according to the manufacturer's instructions (The Binding Site, Birmingham, UK). Mean proMMP-3 values of the all three groups were compared and a significant statistical difference obtained (p < 0.001). In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between categories of the disease and proMMP-3 values (p < 0.05). The effects of age, exposure duration and cigarette smoking on proMMP-3 values in coal miners with CWP were investigated. There were no correlations between age, smoking and proMMP-3 values. However, a positive correlation was found between exposure duration and proMMP-3 values (r = 0.447, p = 0.008). In conclusion, proMMP-3 (prostromelysin 1) may play an essential role in degrading and remodeling the ECM in workers with pneumoconiosis. The objective of this study was to estimate the general combining ability of the parents and specific combining ability of hybrids for earliness traits for line selection. Inheritance and interrelationships of earliness characters were evaluated in a line x tester design. Three intermediate-early-maturing female (lines) which are grown regionally and four early-maturing males (testers) cotton varieties were crossed in 2003. The twelve F(1) and seven parents were planted randomized block design with three replications in 2004. For each earliness trait, general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability and gene effects were estimated using the line x tester method of analysis and also were determined heterosis and narrow sense heritability. Parents and their hybrids (except the monopodial branch) were significant for all the earliness traits studied. Estimates of variance due to GCA and SCA and their ratio revealed predominantly non-additive gene effects for date of first square, date of first flowers and harvested rate of first picking. Among the lines, Ersan 92 and Maras 92 and among the testers Acala Royal was found to be the best general combiners for most of the earliness characters. Four out of twelve crosses namely Ersan 92 x Chirpan 603, Ersan 92 x Acala Maxa, Maras 92 x Acala Royal and Nazilli 87 x Acala Royal were found to be the best crosses for investigated earliness characters. 相似文献

It is demonstrated that water-soluble, glucosylated poly(pentafluorostyrene) derivatives revealed favorable coating material properties for magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles. To prepare the coating material in high reproducibility and purity as well as in sufficient amounts, a new route of synthesis is established. The preparation and characterization of the glucosylated, tetrafluorostyryl monomer, by thiol-para-fluorine "click" reaction, and its polymerization, via nitroxide-mediated radical process, is presented in detail. In addition, the coating material and the resulting particle properties are investigated by means of XPS, DLS, TGA, TEM, and cryo-TEM as well as flow cytometry. The glycopolymer acts as an appropriate stabilizing agent for the superparamagnetic nanoparticles by the formation of an approximately 10 nm thick shell, as shown by the XPS analysis. Furthermore, the application of FITC-labeled glycopolymer yielded fluorescent, superparamagnetic nanoparticles, which can be used for monitoring cell-carbohydrate interactions, because these particles show no cytotoxicity toward 3T3 fibroblasts. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between lymphocyte DNA damage and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). METHODS: The study population contained 53 patients with ACS, 48 patients with stable angina and 35 voluntary healty subjects. DNA damage was assessed by alkaline comed assay in peripheral lymphocyte and plasma levels of total antioxidant capacity (TAC) were determined using a novel automated measurement method. RESULTS: In ACS patients, DNA damage was significantly higher than in patients with stable angina and control subjects (144+/-52 AU, 116+/-37, 68+/-34 AU; for three p<0.001, respectively). The TAC levels in patients with ACS were lower than the other groups (1.24+/-0.31 mmol Trolox equiv./l, 1.46+/-0.29 mmol Trolox equiv./l, p<0.05, respectively). DNA damage values in patients with acute miyocardial infarction were significantly higher than in patients with unstable angina (159.8+/-53.0 AU versus 131.8+/-48.4 AU; p<0.05, respectively). Lymphocyte DNA damage values in patients with ACS showed positive correlation with d-dimer (r=0.880, p<0.001) troponin I (r=538, p<0.001) and C-reactive protein (r=0.544, p<0.001) and negative correlation with TAC (r=-0.346, p=0.011). In multiple linear regression analysis, TAC (beta=-0.213, p=0.001) and d-dimer (beta=0.697, p<0.001) were independent predictors of DNA damage in patients with ACS. CONCLUSIONS:These findings indicate that lymphocyte DNA damage level increases in patients with ACS. Elevated DNA damage may be related with plaque instability and be useful for the identification of patients with acute coronary syndromes. 相似文献

Background A spider monkey with severe dyspnea was referred to our clinic. Methods and Results Radiographs revealed an enlarged cardiac silhouette. Ventricular tachycardia and ST segment depression were also diagnosed after an ECG. These findings coupled with the postmortem examination confirmed dilatative cardiomyopathy. Conclusions This case is worthy of presentation since dilatative cardiomyopathy has been rarely encountered in spider monkeys. 相似文献
