SUBCLASSES of the three major classes of human immunoglobulins, IgG, IgA and IgM, are recognized: four of IgG are well defined1,2 and at least two of IgA3–5 and two of IgM6,7 have been demonstrated. In marine ecosystems, macroalgae are the habitat for several microorganisms, fungi being among them. In the Antarctic benthic coastal ecosystem, macroalgae play a key role in organic matter cycling. In this study, 13 different macroalgae from Potter Cove and surrounding areas were sampled and 48 fungal isolates were obtained from six species, four Rhodophyta Ballia callitricha, Gigartina skottsbergii, Neuroglossum delesseriae and Palmaria decipiens, and two Phaeophyceae: Adenocystis utricularis and Ascoseira mirabilis. Fungal isolates mostly belonged to the Ascomycota phylum (Antarctomyces, Cadophora, Cladosporium, Penicillium, Phialocephala, and Pseudogymnoascus) and only one to the phylum Mucoromycota. Two of the isolates could not be identified to genus level, implying that Antarctica is a source of probable novel fungal taxa with enormous bioprospecting and biotechnological potential. 73% of the fungal isolates were moderate eurypsychrophilic (they grew at 5–25 °C), 12.5% were eurypsychrophilic and grew in the whole range, 12.5% of the isolates were narrow eurypsychrophilic (growth at 15–25 °C), and Mucoromycota AUe4 was classified as stenopsychrophilic as it grew at 5–15 °C. Organic extracts of seven macroalgae from which no fungal growth was obtained (three red algae Georgiella confluens, Gymnogongrus turquetii, Plocamium cartlagineum, and four brown algae Desmarestia anceps, D. Antarctica, Desmarestia menziesii, Himantothallus grandifolius) were tested against representative fungi of the genera isolated in this work. All extracts presented fungal inhibition, those from Plocamium cartilagineum and G. turquetii showed the best results, and for most of these macroalgae, this represents the first report of antifungal activity and constitute a promising source of compounds for future evaluation. 相似文献

Summary
- 1 To investigate the carrying capacity and factors affecting growth of rainbow trout in Lake Rotoiti, we employed a bioenergetics model to assess the influence of stocking rates, timing of releases and prey abundance on growth and prey consumption. We hypothesised that stocking rates and prey abundance would affect growth and prey consumption by influencing per‐capita prey availability, and that the environmental conditions encountered by fish at the time of stocking would affect growth and consumption.
- 2 Prey consumption of stocked rainbow trout was calculated with the Wisconsin bioenergetics model. We calculated growth trajectories of released trout based on data from stocked trout that were released in spring and autumn from 1993 to 2009 and then re‐captured by anglers. Diet, prey energy density, body mass lost during spawning and lake temperature were measured locally.
- 3 Stocking timing had no effect on return rates to anglers or length or weight of caught fish. Although trout released in autumn were smaller than those released in spring, autumn‐released trout grew at a faster rate and had similar lengths and weights to spring cohorts after 2 years of growth in the lake. Modelled consumption parameters were negatively correlated with trout population size, suggesting that stocking rates (347–809 fish ha?1 year?1) caused density‐dependent effects on growth. Although common smelt (Retropinna retropinna) accounted for 85% of total prey consumption, no significant relationship was found between prey consumption by individual trout and adult smelt abundance, possibly because trout are targeting smaller smelt that our abundance estimate did not account for.
- 4 Releasing trout in autumn appears to be advantageous for growth, possibly because (i) temperature is more suitable for growth in autumn–winter than in spring–summer and (ii) prey for small trout is abundant in autumn. Mild winter conditions appear to enhance overwinter survival and growth of rainbow trout in warm‐temperate lakes compared to higher latitudes. This implies that moderately productive warm‐temperate lake ecosystems are highly suitable for trout growth in winter, but less so in summer, when lake stratification and high nutrient levels may create conditions suitable for algal blooms and hypolimnetic deoxygenation. High growth rates of trout in warm‐temperate lakes can therefore be supported by timing releases to coincide with favourable winter conditions.

New material of Diplopteridium holdenii is described from the Drybook Sandstone assemblage of Upper Visean (Middle Mississippian) age at Puddlebrook, Gloucestershire. Vegetative leaves consist of bifurcate fronds which are pinnately divided and terminate in narrow pinnule segments. The fronds are arranged spirally in terminal crowns on a narrow, spindly axis. Fertile leaves consist of fronds which bear a median, dichotomous branchlet which gives rise to reflexed, bilaterally symmetrical cupules. One specimen demonstrates that a single fertile crown consisted of cupulate and vegetative fronds. The detailed morphology of the cupules is reconstructed from compression/impression and fusainized material from both attached and isolated units. An isotomously branched synangiate organ is also described from the locality. The synangiate organ is assigned to a new genus and species. A comparison of D. holdenii and this synangiate organ with Diplopteridium teilianum from north Wales and Sphenopteris bifida and Sphenopteris affine from northern England and Scotland, provides indirect evidence that the synangiate organ may have belonged to D. holdenii . Bifurcate and trifurcate fronds associated with dichotomous branchlets bearing either synangial or cupulate structures was a common association in the Visean compression assemblages of Great Britain. 相似文献

1. We studied the effects of different temperature regimes on leaf litter processing in three forested Appalachian headwater streams of different pH (mean pH = 4.2, 6.5, 7.5).
2. We compared leaf breakdown rates, microbial biomass and macroinvertebrate shredder density and biomass between two 12-week processing periods (October–January and November–February) in each stream. Leaf processing rates were calculated both as k (day–1 ) and k d (degree day–1 ).
3. There were no significant differences in processing rates ( k day–1 ) between the two study periods for any leaf species in any stream. The average difference in temperature between the two study periods was 175 degree days. Shredder density was significantly higher during the earlier study period on 40% of the sample dates, but shredder biomass was not significantly different between the two study periods. ATP concentration was significantly higher during the early study period for 60% of the sample dates.
4. More significant differences in these variables (shredder density and biomass, ATP concentration) were seen among the three study streams than between the two study periods.
