The increase in diffusible auxin in the dwarf pea followingtreatment with gibherellin has been shown not to involve theinhibition of IAA oxidase, the rate of basipetal auxin transport,decrease in growth inhibitor, the formation of a complex betweengibberellin and auxin, or the enzymatic conversion of tryptophanto ether-soluble auxin. The tryptophan conversion system fromplants treated with gibberellin formed four times more water-solubleauxin than did the enzyme preparation from control plants. Transition from primary dormancy to secondary dormancy in cocklebur seeds   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
Abstract The transition from primary dormancy to secondary dormancy was examined using upper cocklebur (Xanthium pennsylvanicum Wallr.) seeds. The non-after-ripened seeds with primary dormancy responded to chilling, anoxia, KCN, and NaN3 with an increase in germination. However, their maximal responses to these treatments only occurred after a period of water imbibition, probably a reflection of the increasing growth potential of the axial tissue which was accompanied by the increase in the capacities of respiration and ethylene production. On the other hand, the establishment of secondary dormancy was accompanied by a decrease in respiration and ethylene production of seeds, and in the growth potential of both axial and cotyledonary tissues. The decrease in growth potential of these tissues occurred regardless of whether they were excised from after-ripened seeds or non-after-ripened seeds. It is inferred that the primary dormancy of cocklebur seeds is a state maintained in un-germinated seeds for a long time through a spontaneous transition to secondary dormancy.  相似文献

Germination responses to light were studied in the upper andlower seeds of cocklebur (Xanthium pennsylvanicum Wallr.). Thelower seed was dark-germinating and negatively photoblastic;the upper one had a red-light (R) requirement and was positivelyphotoblastic. Germination of the lower seeds was inhibited bya prolonged single irradiation with R, blue (B) or far-red (FR)light applied during imbibition. The maximal inhibitory effectof a single irradiation occurred 9 h and 13 h after the startof soaking at 33 °C and 23 °C, respectively. However,the inhibitory effect of R differed from that of B and FR, byonly delaying germination. A single exposure to B or FR lightcould be replaced by intermittent B or FR irradiation, and theireffects were repeatedly reversible by the following R irradiation.If the upper seeds were not exposed to R during imbibition,they failed to germinate even at 33 °C which was optimalfor germination, and the promotive effect of R increased withdelay of its application time. The photoperceptive locus incocklebur seeds was the axial tissue for all B, R and FR. Lightreceived by the cotyledonary tissue had little effect. Germinationdimorphism in response to light is discussed with respect tothe phytochrome content and the ageing of axial tissues. THE RELATIONSHIP OF GIBBERELLIN AND AUXIN IN PLANT GROWTH   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
No synergism was found between IAA and gibberellin in the Avenucurvature test and this bioassay thus measures changes in diffusibleauxin resulting from gibberellin treatment and not a synergisticaction of the gibberellin on the curvature response to auxin.Gibberellin treatment causes an increase in diffusible auxinfrom the stem apex of dwarf pea (Pisum sativum L. var. LittleMarvel) 24 to 48 hours before the elongation response in thestem. The increase in diffusible auxin in the stem apex of Centaureacyanus L. var. Blue Boy occurs four to six days before the boltingresponse to gibberellin treatment under short days. The stemtissues of both the dwarf pea and Centaurea show an elongationresponse to IAA when the IAA is applied in a manner simulatingthe stem apex. Phylogenetic and taxonomic relationships of the Polypedates leucomystax complex (Amphibia). —Zoologica Scripta, 42, 54–70. We investigated the phylogenetic and taxonomic relationships and estimated the history of species diversification and biogeography in the Asian rhacophorid genus Polypedates, focusing on the Polypedates leucomystax complex, whose members are notoriously difficult to classify. We first estimated phylogenetic relationships within the complex using 2005‐bp sequences of the mitochondrial 12S rRNA, tRNAval and 16S rRNA genes with maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian methods of inference. Polypedates exhibits well‐supported monophyly, with distinct clades for P. otilophus, P. colletti, P. maculatus and the P. leucomystax complex, consisting of P. macrotis, and the Malay (Polypedates sp. from Malay Peninsula), North China (P. braueri), South China (Polypedates cf. mutus 1), Indochina (P. megacephalus), Sunda (P. leucomystax) and Laos (Polypedates cf. mutus 2) clades. In a subsequent phylogenetic analysis of 4696‐bp sequences of the nuclear brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), sodium/calcium exchanger 1 (NCX), POMC, Rag‐1, Rhod and Tyr genes using Bayesian methods of inference, all of these clades were recovered. Some clades of the P. leucomystax complex occur sympatrically and show high genetic diversity or morphological and acoustic differences. Similar tendencies were observed between some allopatric clades. Therefore, we consider each of these groups to be distinct specifically. We also estimated absolute divergence times within the genus using Bayesian methods. Divergence in Polypedates began with the divergence of a primarily South Asian Clade from the common ancestor of secondarily South‐East Asia P. maculatus and South‐East Asian members. The divergence between the latter occurred much later. The P. leucomystax complex diverged in the Pliocene, much later than other congeners, and seems to have been greatly affected by human‐related dispersal after the Pleistocene.  相似文献
