In the first polar lobe of the egg of Bithyma tentaculata thereis a cup-shaped mass of small vesicles rich in RNA, called thevegetal body. It is passed to the CD blastomere with the polarlobe and then its contents are distributed to C and D. Whenthe polar lobe is removed, embryos form neither mesentoblastnor mesoderm bands. They fail to establish bilateral symmetryor to form eyes, foot, operculum and shell. AB half embryosdevelop only the structures found in lobeless embryos, whileCD halves develop lobe dependent adult structures such as eyes, foot and shell. AD- and BC-2/4-embryos develop similarly andboth have lobe dependent structures. Three quarter embryos developas in other molluscs except that ABD (–C) develops poorlyand ABC (–D) develops all lobe-dependent structures. Thus, all evidence available indicates that C receives cytoplasm usuallyrestricted to D in molluscs and therefore has the capacity toexert a similar morphogenetic influence on development.

The Pô River basin of northern Italy is the home of distinctive and endemic morphological forms of brown trout Salmo trutta. We used PCR-direct sequencing and RFLP techniques to study variation in the mitochondrial control region of 225 trout in order to assess genetic relatedness among 18 populations from that region. The distribution analysis of these genotypes among north Italian populations confirmed the phylogenetic differentiation of marbled trout Salmo trutta marmoratus populations and the postglacial origin of S. t. fario. Extensive genetic heterogeneity was observed among morphologically identical S. t. fario populations. Introgression with domestic strains of Atlantic basin origin was detected in all forms. In order to assess the phylogenetic congruence detected in coding and noncoding regions of the mitochondrial genome, we also analysed sequence variation in segments of the cytochrome b and ATPase subunit VI genes among representatives of all variants detected in the analysis of the control region. Variation in protein coding genes was only slightly less than that observed in the control region of the same individuals, both in terms of number of variants detected and of pairwise sequence divergence estimates among variants. Phylogenetic analysis based on protein coding genes sequences identified the same phylogenetic groupings defined by the control region analysis and also allowed a partial resolution of their phyletic relationships that was previously unresolved. However, coding and noncoding segments differed substantially in the transition-transversion ratio (17:0 in coding segments vs. 17:6 in control region segments).  相似文献

1. The conservation of salmonid inter‐ and intra‐specific diversity is a well‐known challenge, and general management guidelines and conservation processes are available. However, research demonstrating the outcomes of practical conservation actions is largely lacking. 2. We monitored the spatiotemporal genetic and demographic evolution of a native Mediterranean brown trout population in a river in the French Alps to assess the efficacy and early effects of genetic refuge (i.e. cessation of stocking) and wild trout translocation strategies. We also studied the use of angling as a tool to limit the introgression of the wild standing population. 3. We found that the rate of non‐native alleles in wild populations was age dependent, underpinning the importance of using age profiles in the design of genetic conservation studies. 4. Genetic refuge and direct translocation of wild trout resulted in a rapid and significant decrease in the percentages of non‐native alleles. Moreover, the genetic refuge strategy resulted in a significant reduction in the number of pure non‐native individuals, without changing trout densities, whilst direct translocations resulted in the establishment of dense, self‐sustaining native trout populations. Direct translocations changed the distribution of genotype categories and increased densities up to 55‐fold in 3 years. Our results also showed that angling resulted in a selective pressure on non‐native trout introduced at fry stage, whereas non‐native trout issued from natural recruitment were not affected. 5. Our study provides insights for improving the efficacy of practical conservation policies and can be used in other native freshwater fish conservation plans. Proactive measures such as direct translocation need to be implemented together with passive approaches such as genetic refuge policies. Before implementing such actions, accurate genetic and demographic studies at small geographical scales are essential to ensure that no self‐sustaining population of non‐native fish is present. To obtain rapid colonisation, we recommend introducing fish along whole river sections rather than concentrating on a few river stretches. Angling pressure can be used as an additional tool to improve restoration.  相似文献

During metamorphosis in the hawkmoth, Manduca sexta, the larvalthoracic legs are replaced by a new set of adult legs that includenew sensory neurons and muscles, and participate in new patternsof locomotor activity. Larval leg motoneurons persist to innervatethe new adult leg muscles, but undergo striking changes in dendriticmorphology that are regulated by the insect steroid, 20-hydroxyecdysone.In the periphery, the motor terminals regress as larval musclesdegenerate, and expand as new adult muscles form from myoblasts.Evidence obtained both in vivo and in vitro suggests that theproliferation of myoblasts during metamorphosis is dependentupon innervation.  相似文献

Throughout its natural range, the brown trout Salmo trutta L. exhibits a complex pattern of morphological and life-history variation. This has led to considerable taxonomic confusion, hampering the understanding of the evolutionary history of the species. To document the phylogenetic relationships among morphologically and geographically remote brown trout populations across western Europe, we determined the DNA sequence variation in segments of the mitochondrial control region for 151 individuals representing 24 populations. DNA was prepared for double-stranded sequencing by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Twenty-one variable nucleotide positions within a 640-bp fragment surveyed defined 12 genotypes differing by a mean of 7 nucleotide substitutions (range 1-12). Five major phylogenetic assemblages differing by mean sequence divergence estimates of 0.96 to 1.44% were identified. These groupings exhibited a strong spatial partitioning but lacked congruence with either ecological or morphological differentiation. Complete mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) monomorphism across all Atlantic basin populations contrasted with the high interdrainage genetic diversity observed in more southerly populations. This study exemplified the usefulness of mitochondrial DNA sequence analysis for estimating phylogenetic relationships within S. trutta populations.  相似文献
