There is a difference between scientific hypothesis and the "phylogenetic presumption" by Rasnitsyn (concerning the paper by I.Ia. Pavlinov, 2005. J. Gen. Biology. V. 66. No 5)

The arguments by Pavlinov against my critical analysis of the concept of the "phylogenetic presumptions" proposed by Rasnitsyn are briefly discussed. It is proved that these arguments are invalid because they are based on the substitution of terms. Instead of the term "phylogenetic presumption" introduced by Rasnitsyn just as an analogue of the presumption of innocence in jurisprudence, Pavlinov considers the presumption in the wider understanding, i.e. as a "preliminary statement".     

Determination with a microelectrode of membrane potential of giant human erythrocytes obtained by La(3+)-induced fusion

The effect of La3+ on the fusion of erythrocytes of blood stored for a week at +4 degrees C was studied. It was shown that the fusion of erythrocytes begins after one day of storage of blood. The most intensive fusion of erythrocytes was observed on day 4 of blood storage. As a result, giant cells with a size of 100 microns and more arise. The electrical potential of giant cells was measured using a microelectrode and was -6.6 +/- 1.5 mV.     

Bees of the subfamily Nomiinae (hymenoptera: halictidae) in Russia and adjacent countries: an annotated list

Results of the study of over 10 thousand specimens of Nomiinae, mostly from the collection of the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg). Two new synonyms are ascertained: Nomia inermis Morawitz, 1894 = Nomia orientana Warncke, 1976, syn. n. = Pseudapis guichardi Pauly, 1990, syn. n. The lectotypes of the following nominal taxa of the species group are designated: Nomia areocincta var. turcomanica Radoszkowski, N. edentata ssp. elengantissima Popov, N. inermis Morawitz, N. latipes Morawitz, N. squamata Morawitz, and N. tadzhica Popov. Distribution ranges of 11 species are significantly extended owing to the new material examined: Pseudapis elegantissima (Popov) are recorded from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan for the first time; Pseudapis inermis (Morawitz), from Georgia; Nomiapis armata (Olivier), N. equestris (Gerstäcker), Pseudapis bytinski (Warncke), and P. edentata (Morawitz), from Azerbaijan; Nomiapis valga (Gerstäcker) and Pseudapis rufescens (Morawitz), from Kazakhstan; Nomiapis bispinosa (Brullé), from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrghyzstan; N. squamata (Morawitz), from Kyrghyzstan and Iran; N. femoralis (Pallas), from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. An annotated list of 26 species of Nomiinae provided with data on their synonymy and distribution is given.

中国隧蜂属Halictuss．sir．的研究是根据Pesenko的分类系统撰写的[1,2]。有关中国隧蜂属的第1篇报道是Morawitz[3]记述由俄罗斯N．M．Przewalsky1877年采自天山的Halictusquadricinctus及H.resurgens（名为H．sexcinctussensuMorawitz）,1890年Morawitz又增加两种[4],即H.tetrazonicus（部分应为H．tsintouensis）及H.rubicundus,该两种是G.N．Potanin于1886年采自甘肃（标签上误写为蒙古“Mongolei”,详见Pesenko中国及蒙古隧蜂属的讨论[5]）。Strand也记述了中国的种类[6,7],其1909年的文章中记述了中国西部（“Jarkand”…     

"Phylogenetic presumptions"--can jurisprudence terms promote comparative biology?

The paper presents the results of a critical analysis of the "phylogenetic presumptions" conception by means of its comparison with the hypothetic-deductive method of the phylogeny reconstruction within the framework of the evolutionary systematics. Rasnitsyn (1988, 2002) suggested this conception by analogy with the presumption of innocence in jurisprudence, where it has only moral grounds. Premises of all twelve the "phylogenetic presumptions" are known for a long time as the criteria of character homology and polarity or as the criteria of relationship between organisms. Many of them are inductive generalizations based on a large body of data and therefore are currently accepted by most of taxonomists as criteria or corresponding rules, but not as presumptions with the imperative "it is true until the contrary is proved". The application of the juristic term "presumption" in phylogenetics introduces neither methodical profits, nor anything to gain a better insight of problems of the phylogenetic reconstruction. Moreover, it gives ill effects as, by analogy with a judicially charged person and his legal defense, it allows a researcher not to prove or substantiate his statements on characters and relationships. Some of Rasnitsyn's presumptions correspond to criteria, which have been recognized as invalid ones on the reason of their non-operationality (presumption "apomorphic state corresponds more effective adaptation") or insufficient ontological grounds (presumptions "are more complex structure is apomorphic", "the most parsimonious cladogram is preferable", and "one should considered every to be inherited").
