The genus Beltraniella Subramanian is characterized by setiform conidiophores with radially lobed basal cells, separating cells and lageniform conidia with the distal free end truncate, proximal end rostrate, with a subhyaline transverse band at equatorial zone. Beltraniella porosa and Beltraniella patilii are two species that show characteristics distinct from Beltraniella: They have sterile lateral setae arising at the conidiogenous apparatus and several equatorial pores in place of the continuous band. A new genus, Porobeltraniella, is described to accommodate them.  相似文献

Sorghum mesocotyls upon mechanical injury with an abrasive (carborundum) or inoculation with the fungi Helminthosporium carbonum (non-pathogen) or Colletotrichum graminicola (pathogen) accumulate a methanol-soluble pigment complex with an absorption maximum around 480–490 nm. Spectral and thin-layer chromatographic analyses showed that the complexes which accumulated either in response to wounding or inoculation are similar. Thus, it is suggested that the accumulation of the pigmented phytoalexins in sorghum mesocotyls is a non-specific response of the tissues towards mechanical injury or fungal infection.  相似文献

The transmission of Passion fruit woodiness virus (PWV) by Aphis gossypii (Glover) was evaluated. In two independent experiments, A. gossypii transmitted PWV to passion fruit plants at the rates of 75% and 100%, when eight and twelve viruliferous aphids were deposited by plant, respectively. At the end of the tests, nymphs of A. gossypii were observed in some of the passion fruit plants, suggesting that the aphid species was colonizing the plants. This seems to be the first report of Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa (Deneger) colonization by a species of aphid.  相似文献

In the course of studies about conidial fungi that grow on plant debris in the semi-arid region of Brazil, four species of Paliphora were found on unidentified dicotyledonous plants. Paliphora intermedia and P. porosa are recorded for the first time for South America and the neotropics respectively. Paliphora inflata and P. multiseptata are proposed as new species. A key and synoptic table of characters of the five known species of Paliphora are provided.  相似文献

The fungitoxicity of crude extracts and essential oils of Achillea millefolium , Cymbopogon citratus , Eucalyptus citriodora and Ageratum conyzoides on the fungus Didymella bryoniae was verified in vitro by means of germination of spores and mycelial growth. In addition, some observations were made using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to detect possible alterations on the hyphae of Didymella bryoniae . The results revealed that crude extracts of E. citriodora and A. conyzoides were more effective in inhibiting the mycelial growth of D. bryoniae whereas in the germination of spores A. conyzoides and A. millefolium were responsible for most of the inhibition, namely, 52 and 46%, respectively. The essential oils of C. citratus , A. conyzoides and E. citriodora provided 100% inhibition of the mycelial growth and germination of spores of D. bryoniae . SEM observations revealed alterations in the growth pattern of hyphae of D. bryoniae when the essential oil of A. millefolium was present.  相似文献

Xylella fastidiosa was the first plant pathogen whose complete genome sequence was available. X. fastidiosa causes citrus variegated chlorosis, but the physiological basis of the disease in unknown. Through comparative sequence analysis, several putative plant cell wall–degrading enzymes were identified on the X. fastidiosa genome. We have cloned Xf818, a putative endoglucanase ORF, into expression vectors pET20b and pET28b, and purified a recombinant form of Xf818 containing a His6 tag. Through biochemical assays, we have characterized the endoglucanase activity of this protein. The best conditions for hydrolysis over carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) were on pH 5.2 at 65°C. Xf818 hydrolyzed CMC, acid swollen cellulose, Avicel, birch wood, oat spels xylans, and the oligosaccharides cellotetraose and cellopentaose. Xf818 carried out transglycosylation and had a functional cellulose-binding domain.  相似文献

Members of the Diatrypaceae are predominantly saprotrophic on the decaying wood of angiosperms worldwide and the family has received little attention due to its difficult taxonomy. However, the recent detection of several pathogenic species, once considered saprotrophic, associated with the wood of diseased grapevines has increased interest in this family. The diversity of tropical species is less well known and more poorly sampled in phylogenetic studies than temperate species. In the present study, we investigated the diversity of diatrypaceous fungi from three areas in the Brazilian semi-arid region and performed phylogenetic analyses of the family based on the entire internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and partial ß-tubulin gene. Twenty-eight new ITS and 19 new ß-tubulin sequences were generated, representing eight species distributed in five clades. Diatrypella atlantica, Eutypa guttulata, Eutypella cearensis, and Peroneutypa diminutispora are proposed here as new species, while Eutypella microtheca and P. curvispora are new records for Brazil. All eight species are described, illustrated, and discussed.  相似文献

Xylella fastidiosa is a xylem-limited bacterium that causes citrus variegated chlorosis (CVC), Pierce’s disease of grapevine, and leaf scald of coffee and plum and many other plant species. This pathogen is vectored by sharpshooter leafhoppers (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae) and resides in the insect foregut. Scanning electron microscopy was used to determine the retention sites of X. fastidiosa for the most common vector species in Brazilian citrus groves, Acrogonia citrina, Bucephalogonia xanthophis, Dilobopterus costalimai, and Oncometopia facialis. After a 48-h acquisition access period on infected citrus or plum, adult sharpshooters were kept on healthy citrus seedlings for an incubation period of 2 weeks to allow for bacterial multiplication. Then the vector heads were incubated for 24 h in a fixative and transferred into a cryoprotector liquid. Bacterial rod cells exhibiting similar X. fastidiosa morphology were found laterally attached to different regions inside the cibarial pump chamber (longitudinal groove, lateral surface, cibarial diaphragm and apodemal groove) of A. citrina, O. facialis, and D. costalimai, and polarly attached to the precibarium channel of O. facialis. Polymerase chain reactions of vector’s heads were positive for the presence of X. fastidiosa. No X. fastidiosa-like cells were detected in B. xanthophis. A different type of rod-shaped bacterium was found on B. xanthophis cibarium chamber and images suggest that the cibarium wall was degraded/digested by these bacteria. Colonization patterns of X. fastidiosa in their vectors are fundamental aspects to be explored toward understanding acquisition, adhesion, and transmission mechanisms for development of X. fastidiosa control strategies.  相似文献

Activity of phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (E.C. 4.3.1.5) and anthocyanin accumulation were determined in wounded maize (Zea mays L.) mesocotyls. Mesocotyls were wounded with aluminum oxide and were placed in a 15 h light: 9 h dark photoperiod or in the dark. Extractable enzyme activity increased in response to wounding in the photoperiod but not in the dark. Anthocyanin accumulation in mesocotyls placed in the photoperiod decreased in response to wounding. The results are discussed with reference to phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activity in mesocotyl tissue wounded or inoculated with fungal pathogens.  相似文献

Due to the low chemical control effectiveness of citrus black spot, caused by the fungus Guignardia citricarpa at postharvest, and to the search for alternative control methods, this study aimed to evaluate the in vitro effect of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), produced by yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, on G. citricarpa. It was observed that the yeast strains evaluated acted as antagonists by VOC production, whose maximum inhibitory capacity was as high as 87.2%. The presence of fermentable carbon sources in the medium was essential for the bioactive VOC production by the yeast. The analysis of VOCs produced in PDA medium by SPME–GC–MS indicated the presence of high quantities of alcohols as well as esters. An artificial VOC mixture prepared on the basis of the composition of the VOCs mimicked the inhibitory effects of the natural VOCs released by S. cerevisiae. Thus, the VOCs produced by the yeast or the artificial mixtures can be a promising control method for citrus black spot or others postharvest diseases.  相似文献
