In a place conditioning paradigm, rats were exposed to one of two distinctive environments following injection of drug or vehicle. Preference was measured under drug free conditions by allowing subjects free access to both settings and measuring where they spent more time. Comparisons were made between morphine and saline; PCP and saline; and one of several doses of morphine and a standard dose. Morphine was preferred over saline and, when compared to the reference dose, lower doses of morphine were less preferred and higher doses more preferred. PCP was never preferred over saline and under some conditions produced a conditioned place aversion. The ability to generate dose dependent effects with morphine should allow more sophisticated studies in which shifts in dose response curves are required. 相似文献

Five patients with chronic lead intoxication were treated with S-adenosyl-L-methionine (12 mg/kg body weight, daily), given intravenously, over a period of 22 days. A significant recovery of erythrocytic ALA-D was observed in all cases, after therapy. Blood lead content significantly pathologic at the beginning of SAM administration, rapidly decreased within 24-48 h of initiating treatment, reaching nearly control values at the end of the trial. A good correlation between recovery of ALA-D activity and decreased concentration of lead in RBC was found. GSH content in blood was diminished in lead poisoned patients, increasing to normal levels after SAM administration. Other biochemical parameters such as Deaminase activity in RBC, ALA, PBG, porphyrins and lead in urine and serum gamma-GT were measured, showing no important deviations from control values before, during or after treatment. Both biochemical and clinical improvement was observed, indicating that SAM therapy is beneficial in the treatment of lead intoxication. No untoward signs were observed. The mechanism of action of SAM is not yet clear; however, a chelating effect could be excluded, and very likely its action can be attributed to glutathione availability. 相似文献

Following 10 daily pairings of multiple conditioned stimuli with injection of cocaine (15 mg/kg), the presentation of the stimuli alone elicited behaviors in rats similar to those induced by cocaine. The behaviors included increased duration or frequency of rearing, sniffing, head bobbing, and horizontal locomotor activity (crossing). The level of the conditioned response for several of these behaviors approximated that induced by the drug itself. The conditioned drug effect showed decay over 15 days but little extinction during 4 daily trials. Brain concentrations of the dopamine metabolites, homovanillic acid and dihydroxyphenylacetic acid, were similar in the conditioned and pseudoconditioned control groups in both the caudate and mesolimbic areas. The behavioral results demonstrate that, in a classical conditioning paradigm, previously neutral stimuli can elicit behaviors similar to those induced by cocaine and that certain conditioned responses show time related decline. This agrees with the reported conditioning of amphetamine's behavioral effects but differs in terms of the action on brain dopamine turnover. 相似文献

Immunoglobulins are encoded by a large multigene system that undergoes
somatic rearrangement and additional genetic change during the development
of immunoglobulin-producing cells. Inducible antibody and antibody-like
responses are found in all vertebrates. However, immunoglobulin possessing
disulfide-bonded heavy and light chains and domain-type organization has
been described only in representatives of the jawed vertebrates. High
degrees of nucleotide and predicted amino acid sequence identity are
evident when the segmental elements that constitute the immunoglobulin gene
loci in phylogenetically divergent vertebrates are compared. However, the
organization of gene loci and the manner in which the independent elements
recombine (and diversify) vary markedly among different taxa. One striking
pattern of gene organization is the "cluster type" that appears to be
restricted to the chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fishes) and limits
segmental rearrangement to closely linked elements. This type of gene
organization is associated with both heavy- and light-chain gene loci. In
some cases, the clusters are "joined" or "partially joined" in the germ
line, in effect predetermining or partially predetermining, respectively,
the encoded specificities (the assumption being that these are expressed)
of the individual loci. By relating the sequences of transcribed gene
products to their respective germ-line genes, it is evident that, in some
cases, joined-type genes are expressed. This raises a question about the
existence and/or nature of allelic exclusion in these species. The
extensive variation in gene organization found throughout the vertebrate
species may relate directly to the role of intersegmental
(V<==>D<==>J) distances in the commitment of the individual
antibody-producing cell to a particular genetic specificity. Thus, the
evolution of this locus, perhaps more so than that of others, may reflect
the interrelationships between genetic organization and function.

Vast amounts of olive mill wastewaters (OMW) are produced in Mediterranean countries, where their treatment and disposal are becoming a serious environmental problem. Increasing attention has been paid to discovering a use for OMW and a wide range of technological treatments are available nowadays for reducing their pollutant effects and for their transformation into valuable products, the most suitable procedures being found to involve recycling rather than the detoxication of these wastes. Direct application of OMW to soil has been considered as an inexpensive method of disposal and recovery of their mineral and organic components but, because of their organic acid and phenol contents, OMW are also a source of pollution. By using composting technologies, it is possible to transform either fresh OMW or sludge from pond-stored OMW mixed with appropriate plant waste waterials (carriers) into organic fertilizers (composts) with no phytotoxicity to improve soil fertility and plant production, the process involving the microbial degradation of the polluting load of the wastes. Results of field and pot experiments using OMW-composts to cultivate horticultural and other crops have shown that yields obtained with organic fertilization are similar, and sometimes higher, to those obtained with a balanced mineral fertilizer. A comparison between the macro and micronutrient contents of plants cultivated with organic or mineral fertilizers did not generally reveal important differences. However, the cases of iron and manganese are worth mentioning as their bio-availability may be linked to the soil humic complexes originated by the OMW organic fertilizers. 相似文献
