Antifouling paint booster biocides are a group of organic compounds added to antifouling paints to improve their efficacy. They have become prevalent since the requirement for alternative antifouling paints formulations for small boats (< 25 m). This need followed a ban on the use of triorganotin biocides in antifouling paints for small boats, in the late 1980's. Worldwide, around eighteen compounds are currently used as antifouling biocides, viz. benzmethylamide, chlorothalonil, copper pyrithione, dichlofluanid, diuron, fluorofolpet, Irgarol 1051, Sea‐Nine 211, Mancozeb, Polyphase, pyridine‐triphenyl‐borane, TCMS (2,3,5,6‐tetrachloro‐4‐methylsulfonyl) pyridine, TCMTB [2‐(thiocyanomethylthio)benzothia‐zole], Thiram, tolyfluanid, zinc pyrithione (ZPT), ziram and Zineb. Any booster biocide released into the environment is subjected to a complex set of processes. These processes include transport mechanisms, transformation, degradation, cross media partitioning, and bioaccumulation. This paper reviews the fate and behaviour data currently available in the public domain concerning antifouling paint booster biocides. 相似文献

Background
The function of proteins is a direct consequence of their three-dimensional structure. The structural classification of proteins describes the ways of folding patterns all proteins could adopt. Although, the protein folds were described in many ways the functional properties of individual folds were not studied. Results
We have analyzed two β-barrel folds generally adopted by small proteins to be looking similar but have different topology. On the basis of the topology they could be divided into two different folds named SH3-fold and OB-fold. There was no sequence homology between any of the proteins considered. The sequence diversity and loop variability was found to be important for various binding functions. Conclusions
The function of Oligonucleotide/oligosaccharide-binding (OB) fold proteins was restricted to either DNA/RNA binding or sugar binding whereas the Src homology 3 (SH3) domain like proteins bind to a variety of ligands through loop modulations. A question was raised whether the evolution of these two folds was through DNA shuffling. 相似文献3.

Acidic mammalian chitinase (AMCase), an enzyme implicated in the pathology of asthma, is capable of chitin cleavage at a low pH optimum. The corresponding gene (CHIA) can be found in genome databases of a variety of mammals, but the enzyme properties of only the human and mouse proteins were extensively studied. We wanted to compare enzymes of closely related species, such as humans and macaques. In our attempt to study macaque AMCase, we searched for CHIA-like genes in human and macaque genomes. We found that both genomes contain several additional CHIA-like sequences. In humans, CHIA-L1 (hCHIA-L1) is an apparent pseudogene and has the highest homology to CHIA. To determine which of the two genes is functional in monkeys, we assessed their tissue expression levels. In our experiments, CHIA-L1 expression was not detected in human stomach tissue, while CHIA was expressed at high levels. However, in the cynomolgus macaque stomach tissue, the expression pattern of these two genes was reversed: CHIA-L1 was expressed at high levels and CHIA was undetectable. We hypothesized that in macaques CHIA-L1 (mCHIA-L1), and not CHIA, is a gene encoding an acidic chitinase, and cloned it, using the sequence of human CHIA-L1 as a guide for the primer design. We named the new enzyme MACase (Macaca Acidic Chitinase) to emphasize its differences from AMCase. MACase shares a similar tissue expression pattern and pH optimum with human AMCase, but is 50 times more active in our enzymatic activity assay. DNA sequence of the mCHIA-L1 has higher percentage identity to the human pseudogene hCHIA-L1 (91.7%) than to hCHIA (84%). Our results suggest alternate evolutionary paths for human and monkey acidic chitinases. 相似文献

Large-scale development of expressed sequence tag simple sequence repeat (EST-SSR) markers was performed in peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) to obtain more informative genetic markers. A total of 10,102 potential non-redundant EST sequences, including 3,445 contigs and 6,657 singletons, were generated from cDNA libraries of the gynophore, roots, leaves and seedlings. A total of 3,187 primer pairs were designed on flanking regions of SSRs, some of which allowed one and two base mismatches. Among the 3,187 markers generated, 2,540 (80%) were trinucleotide repeats, 302 (9%) were dinucleotide repeats, and 345 (11%) were tetranucleotide repeats. Pre-polymorphic analyses of 24 Arachis accessions were performed using 10% polyacrylamide gels. A total of 1,571 EST-SSR markers showing clear polymorphisms were selected for further polymorphic analysis with a Fluoro-fragment Analyzer. The 16 Arachis accessions examined included cultivated peanut varieties as well as diploid species with the A or B genome. Altogether 1,281 (81.5%) of the 1,571 markers were polymorphic among the 16 accessions, and 366 (23.3%) were polymorphic among the 12 cultivated varieties. Diversity analysis was performed and the genotypes of all 16 Arachis accessions showed similarity coefficients ranging from 0.37 to 0.97. We report the molecular epidemiology of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus involved in an outbreak causing death in free-ranging wild birds at Mysore, Karnataka state of India. The virus was typed as HPAI A(H5N8) by conventional and TaqMan probe based real-time PCR assays. Six isolates of HPAI virus were recovered in 9-day-old embryonated chicken eggs. Haemagglutinin gene-based phylogeny of virus isolates showed >?99.9% nucleotide sequence identity with HPAI A(H5N8) isolates from migratory birds and domestic poultry from China and Korea indicating either these wild birds have routed their migration through Korea and/or eastern China or these dead birds must have directly or indirectly contacted with wild birds migrating from Eastern China and/or Korean regions. The study emphasises the role of migratory wild birds in spread of HPAI across the globe. 相似文献
