Nutrient translocation in chestnut tree stemwood was calculatedfrom the distribution of nutrient content throughout the tissuelife-span. The dynamics of internal translocation were followedduring the crop rotation by means of an age series of five coppicedstands (219 years). N, P, K, Ca and Mg contents in treerings were estimated from the concentrations along a verticaland radial gradient and from the ring volume obtained usingstem ring analysis.Real nutrient translocation was calculatedstepwise between successive stages in the age series;apparenttranslocation was computed on a complete tree rotation by comparingthe initial content just after the ring was formed with themineral content in the oldest stand. There was a marked translocationof N, P, K and Ca when the rings were physiologically-activetissues. Real translocation of N, P and K (but not Ca) increasedwith stand age, obviously in parallel with the enlarged stemwoodbiomass reaching 23.2 and 20.6 kg ha-1for K and N in the lastyears of rotation, nearly 5 kg ha-1for Mg and about 3 kg ha-1forCa and P. Potassium was the most mobile element since translocationreached 60% of the total amount immobilized in the stemwoodat the end of the rotation, whereas values for N, P and Mg wereapproximately 25% and 10% for calcium. Total apparent translocationreached respectively 39.2 and 32.4 kg ha-1for K, N, approximately12 and 7 kg ha-1for Mg and Ca and only 4.4 kg ha-1for P. Totalapparent translocation as a percentage of total wood immobilizationwas 114% for K, 83% for Mg, 63% for P, but only 39% for N and24% for calcium. In leaves of potatoes inoculated with Phytophthora infestans early in the growing season, more but smaller lesions with later onset of sporulation and fewer sporangia developed than on those inoculated later. None of these factors was uniform on detached leaves of all clones, so could not be used separately to forecast field resistance satisfactorily; when considered together, a reasonable prediction was feasible. SYNOPSIS. An electron microscopic study is made of merozoites and schizogony of Eimeria magna and Eimeria tenella from rabbits and chickens infected 5 days before fixation.
The merozoite outer layer is formed by a unit membrane lined by a dense osmiophilic layer. A micropyle is present. The apical complex of the cell is constituted by a conoid surmounted by 2 rings and surrounded by another from which about 26 subpellicular, tubular fibrils start. Two "rhoptries" (= toxonemes) go thru the conoid to the apex of cell. Rare sarconemes (= convoluted tubes) are disseminated in the anterior part of merozoites. A nucleus with nucleolus, Golgi apparatus, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, lipid globules and glucidic grains were observed.
Schizogony starts by the formation of a multinucleated schizont which has a centriolar structure. The new merozoites appear as evaginations of the schizont's membrane. Cellular organelles (conoid, rhoptries, micropyle, sarconemes) differentiate and the nuclei enter the diverticula of the schizont. Then the development of merozoites proceeds by "external budding".
The ultrastructural similarities between the merozoites of Eimeria and the endodyocytes of Toxoplasmea, appear to us to be extremely interesting and indicate a close relationship between the Toxoplasmea and the Coccidia. 相似文献

Leiocopes differ from all other major ostracode groups (e.g. Palaeocopa. Binodicopa, Podocopa, Myodocopa) mainly in having a simple rounded/convex shape and a strong (dorsal and/or ventral) asymmetry. These morphological features are highly conservative in leiocopes through the Palaeozoic (lower Ordovician-middle Devonian). Functional morphology and facies distribution suggest that typical 'dome-like' leiocopes (e.g. aparchitids) may have lived off the bottom in relatively deep water environments, contrasting with most (inferred) benthic Palaeozoic ostracodes (e.g. heavily calcified dimorphic palaeocopes). Reversely, smaller sized and both dorsally and ventrally asymmetrical leiocopes (e.g. Ordovician jaanussoniids) are considered as possible benthic dwellers with reduced mobility on or within the substratum. □ Ostracodes, Leiocopa, Aparchitidae, Jaanussoniidae. In P. affinis, pin pollen is shorter on average than thrum pollen. Pins have more coronal hooks on stigmatic papillae than thrums, but gaps between papillae are relatively smaller for thrums. Pin stigmas receive more pollen than thrum stigmas. Thrum stigmas receive more (dissortive) pin pollen, but pin stigmas are assortively pollinated. Pollen only germinates when trapped below papilla coronas. On thrum stigmas, most trapped pollen is pin. Pollen germination is better on thrum stigmas than pin stigmas, and thrum stigmas show a close relationship between numbers of legitimate pollen grains, numbers of germinating grains, and numbers of pollen tubes in the style. There is no inhibition of illegitimate pollen germination. Illegitimate pollen tubes are inhibited in the style. Incompatibility operates by a combination of dissortive pollination, dissortive pollen trapping, and stylar pollen tube inhibition. All heteromorphic features differing between pins and thrums are implicated in the inhibition of within-morph fertilization in thrums. 相似文献

Cultured mouse Cloudman melanoma cells, EMT6 breast carcinoma cells, and 3T3 fibroblasts all accumulated in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle when exposed to UVB radiation. The effects of UVB were maximal at 20–30 mJ/cm2 for all three cell lines, and could be observed by flow cytometry as early as 12 hr post irradiation. It has been known since the mid-1970s that MSH receptor binding activity is highest on Cloudman melanoma cells when they are in the G2/M phase of their cycle. Here we show that either UVB irradiation or synchronization of Cloudman cells with colchicine results in a stimulation of MSH binding within 24 hr following treatment, a time when both treatments have resulted in accumulation of cells in the G2/M phase of the cycle. Furthermore, the two treatments performed together on the melanoma cells stimulated MSH receptor activity to the same extent as either treatment performed separately, suggesting that each may be influencing MSH receptor activity solely through a G2/M accumulation of cells. Together, these results raise the possibility that an increase in the number of cells in the G2 phase of the cell cycle is a generalized cellular response to injury, such as UV irradiation. However, in the case of pigment cells this response includes a mechanism for increasing melanin formation, i.e., increased MSH receptor activity. Should this be the case, similar G2/M “injury responses” of other cell types might be expected, consistent with their differentiated phenotypes. 相似文献

ABSTRACT We investigated the effect of a cysteine proteinase inhibitor (E-64) and an aspartyl proteinase inhibitor (Pepstatin A) on asexual erythrocytic stages of Plasmodium falciparum in culture. These two protease inhibitors showed different patterns of activity. E-64 acted preferentially against trophozoite and schizont stages. After 48 h incubation at high concentrations of E-64 (28, 140, 280 μM), growth was totally abolished and the parasites presented characteristic enlarged food vacuoles. Morphological alterations were also seen after shorter incubation periods (6 h at 28 μM) or 12 h at the inhibitory concentration 50% (12 μM), but an additional culture period (24 h) in inhibitor-free medium allowed normal parasite development, demonstrating a parasitostatic effect. E-64 acts on parasite multiplication; the normal merozoite maturation was altered and the normal reinvasion process partially impaired. Pepstatin A used at the inhibitory concentration 50% (4 μM) killed the parasites before trophozoite development and had a major effect on schizonts maturation. No altered parasite development occurred during an additional culture period without Pepstatin A, demonstrating a parasiticidal effect. E-64 and Pepstatin A used in combination inhibit the parasite growth with a strong synergistic effect. 相似文献
