The changes of stomatal and cuticular transpiration of bean plants were investigated by graphical transpiration curves method (Slavík 1958). Bean leaves were infected by fungusUromyces appendiculatus (Pers.) Link. After the infection the intensity of stomatal transpiration had a decreasing tendency. Beginning with the sixth day after infection, the proportion of stomatal and cuticular transpirations becomes more expressive, i.e. the leaves transpire more by cuticles than by stomata. The higher share of cuticular transpiration brings extensive water relations to the diseased plants. 相似文献

Six AChE monooxime-monocarbamoyl reactivators with an (E)-but-2-ene linker were synthesized using modification of currently known synthetic pathways. Their potency to reactivate AChE inhibited by the nerve agent tabun and insecticide paraoxon was tested in vitro. The reactivation efficacies of pralidoxime, HI-6, obidoxime, K048, K075 and the newly prepared reactivators were compared. According to the results obtained, one reactivator seems to be promising against tabun-inhibited AChE and two reactivators against paraoxon-inhibited AChE. The best results were obtained for bisquaternary substances with at least one oxime group in position four. 相似文献

Pulmonary infections caused by Bordetella pertussis used to be the prime cause of infant mortality in the pre-vaccine era and mouse models of pertussis pneumonia served in characterization of B. pertussis virulence mechanisms. However, the biologically most relevant catarrhal disease stage and B. pertussis transmission has not been adequately reproduced in adult mice due to limited proliferation of the human-adapted pathogen on murine nasopharyngeal mucosa. We used immunodeficient C57BL/6J MyD88 KO mice to achieve B. pertussis proliferation to human-like high counts of 108 viable bacteria per nasal cavity to elicit rhinosinusitis accompanied by robust shedding and transmission of B. pertussis bacteria to adult co-housed MyD88 KO mice. Experiments with a comprehensive set of B. pertussis mutants revealed that pertussis toxin, adenylate cyclase toxin-hemolysin, the T3SS effector BteA/BopC and several other known virulence factors were dispensable for nasal cavity infection and B. pertussis transmission in the immunocompromised MyD88 KO mice. In contrast, mutants lacking the filamentous hemagglutinin (FhaB) or fimbriae (Fim) adhesins infected the nasal cavity poorly, shed at low levels and failed to productively infect co-housed MyD88 KO or C57BL/6J mice. FhaB and fimbriae thus appear to play a critical role in B. pertussis transmission. The here-described novel murine model of B. pertussis-induced nasal catarrh opens the way to genetic dissection of host mechanisms involved in B. pertussis shedding and to validation of key bacterial transmission factors that ought to be targeted by future pertussis vaccines. 相似文献

The oxygen flash yield (YO2) and photochemical yield of PS II (PS II) were simultaneously detected in intact Chlorella cells on a bare platinum oxygen rate electrode. The two yields were measured as a function of background irradiance in the steady-state and following a transition from light to darkness. During steady-state illumination at moderate irradiance levels, YO2 and PS II followed each other, suggesting a close coupling between the oxidation of water and QA reduction (Falkowski et al. (1988) Biochim. Biophys. Acta 933: 432–443). Following a light-to-dark transition, however, the relationship between QA reduction and the fraction of PS II reaction centers capable of evolving O2 became temporarily uncoupled. PS II recovered to the preillumination levels within 5–10 s, while the YO2 required up to 60 s to recover under aerobic conditions. The recovery of YO2 was independent of the redox state of QA, but was accompanied by a 30% increase in the functional absorption cross-section of PS II (PS II). The hysteresis between YO2 and the reduction of QA during the light-to-dark transition was dependent upon the reduction level of the plastoquinone pool and does not appear to be due to a direct radiative charge back-reaction, but rather is a consequence of a transient cyclic electron flow around PS II. The cycle is engaged in vivo only when the plastoquinone pool is reduced. Hence, the plastoquinone pool can act as a clutch that disconnects the oxygen evolution from photochemical charge separation in PS II.Abbreviations ADRY

Functions of nuclear polymeric proteins such as lamin A/C and actin in transport of plasmid DNA were studied. The results show that the lamina plays an important role in plasmid DNA's entry into the cell nucleus from the cytoplasm. Selective disruption of lamin A/C led to a halt in plasmid DNA transport through the nuclear envelope. Inside the nucleus, plasmid DNA was frequently localized at sites with impaired genome integrity, such as DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), occurring spontaneously or induced by ionizing radiation. Polymeric actin obviously participates in nuclear transport of plasmid DNA, since inhibition of actin polymerization by latrunculin B disturbed plasmid transport inside the cell nucleus. In addition, precluding of actin polymerization inhibited plasmid co-localization with newly induced DSBs. These findings indicate the crucial role of polymeric actin in intranuclear plasmid transport. 相似文献

Prochlorothrix hollandica is one of the three known species of an unusual clade of cyanobacteria (formerly called “prochlorophytes”) that contain chlorophyll a and b molecules bound to intrinsic light-harvesting antenna proteins. Here, we report the structural characterization of supramolecular complex consisting of Photosystem I (PSI) associated with the chlorophyll a/b-binding Pcb proteins. Electron microscopy and single particle image analysis of negatively stained preparations revealed that the Pcb-PSI supercomplex consists of a central trimeric PSI surrounded by a ring of 18 Pcb subunits. We conclude that the formation of the Pcb ring around trimeric PSI represents a mechanism for increasing the light-harvesting efficiency in chlorophyll b-containing cyanobacteria. 相似文献
