The influence of brain electrical stimulation, which induced some elements of agonistic behavior, on the preference of an animal of one of two compartments of the experimental chamber was studied in 7 male cats with implanted hypothalamic electrodes. The animals avoided the compartment in which they were stimulated. Self-stimulation reaction could not be formed on the basis of the electrical brain stimulation inducing certain elements of agonistic behavior. Passage latencies were shorter when an animal left the less preferential compartment that in the case when in started from the more preferential one. The obtained evidence suggests that hypothalamic stimulation producing certain elements of agonistic behavior evokes in an animal a negative internal state. 相似文献

We present a model and semiparametric estimation procedures for analysis of survival data with cross-effects (CE) of survival functions. Finite sample properties of the estimators are analyzed by simulation. A goodness-of-fit test for the proportional hazards model against the CE model is proposed. A mathematical model of the mitotic activity of epidermis in norm and psoriasis is presented, which consists of a system of two autonomous nonlinear differential equations. A qualitative analysis of the model was done, and numerical solutions at the parameter values corresponding to these state were obtained. It was shown that, in norm, the system can exist only in one stationary equilibrium state of the "focus" type, and in psoriasis, due to an increase in the growing fraction, hyperproliferation, and enhanced migration of keratinocytes, a stable limiting cycle arises from the state of an unstable focus. The existence of two stable states (focus and the limiting cycle) is regulated by a parameter that describes the inhibition of division of maturing cells of suprabasal epidermal layers by the intrinsic tissue-specific transmitters of mitosis of G1-keilon type. The model is consistent with experimental data on the kinetics of cell proliferation in the epidermis in norm and psoriasis and the clinical course of the disease. 相似文献

A cluster of cases of pulmonary hemosiderosis among infants was reported in Cleveland, Ohio, during 1993 and 1994. These unusual cases appeared only in infants ranging in age from 1 to 8 months and were characterized by pulmonary hemorrhage, which caused the babies to cough up blood. A case-control study identified major home water damage (from plumbing leaks, roof leaks, or flooding) as a risk factor for development of pulmonary hemorrhage in these infants. Because of an interest in the possibility that trichothecene mycotoxins might be involved in this illness, a number of isolates of Stachybotrys chartarum were grown in the laboratory on rice, and extracts were prepared and analyzed both for cytotoxicity and for specific toxins. Two isolates of Memnoniella echinata, a fungus closely related to S. chartarum, were also included in these studies. S. chartarum isolates collected from the homes were shown to produce a number of highly toxic compounds, and the profiles of toxic compounds from M. echinata were similar; the most notable difference was the fact that the principal metabolites produced by M. echinata were griseofulvins. 相似文献

Nine mutant ribosomal proteins L1 from the bacterium Thermus thermophilus and archaeon Methanococcus jannaschii were obtained and their crystal structures were determined and analyzed. The structure of the S179C TthL1 mutant, determined earlier, was also analyzed. In half of the proteins studied, point mutations of the amino acid residues exposed on the protein surface essentially changed the spatial structure of the protein. This proves that a correct study of biological processes with the help of site-directed mutagenesis requires a preliminary determination or, at least, modeling of the structures of mutant proteins. A detailed comparison of the structures of the L1 mutants and the corresponding wild-type L1 proteins demonstrated that the side chain of a mutated amino acid residue tends to adopt a location similar to that of the side chain of the corresponding residue in the wild-type protein. Nine mutant forms of ribosomal proteins L1 from the bacterium Thermus thermophilus and the archaeon Methanococcus jannaschii were obtained. Their crystal structures were determined and analyzed. Earlier determined structure of S179C TthL1 was also thoroughly analyzed. Five from ten mutant proteins reveal essential changes of spatial structure caused by surface point mutation. It proves that for correct studies of biological processes by site-directed mutagenesis it is necessary to determine or at least to model spatial structures of mutant proteins. Detailed comparison of mutant L1 structures with that of corresponding wild type proteins reveals that side chain of a mutated amino acid residue tries to locate like the side chain of the original residue in the wild type protein.
