1. The effects of a moderate addition of nutrients (twofold N and threefold P) were examined during a 2‐year period to determine the response to nutrient addition in a meiofaunal community inhabiting sandy patches in a Mediterranean stream. 2. The pattern of meiofaunal assemblages exhibits a high degree of intra‐ and interannual variability. This pattern alternates between periods of hydrological stability and disturbances, such as floods and droughts, which is a characteristic of Mediterranean systems. 3. A before–after–control–impact (BACI) design was used to determine the outcome of the addition by comparing an upstream non‐enriched reach with an enriched downstream reach. Analysis of the study data by means of a nonparametric permutational procedure (permanova ) showed that fertilisation had a significant effect. Density and biomass values increased in the most abundant meiofaunal groups, including microcrustaceans, oligochaetes and chironomids. Microcrustaceans were the dominant group in the permanent meiofauna. 4. We also examined differences in microcrustacean secondary production in both reaches. Ostracods and cyclopoid copepods increased their secondary production in the impacted reach as a result of the nutrient addition. 5. Our study demonstrated that moderate nutrient enrichment can affect the biomass and production of stream meiofauna, but it is still unclear whether this effect was because of autotrophic or heterotrophic pathways. 相似文献
Lespérance, Pierre J., Barnes, Christopher R., Berry, William B. N., Boucot, Arthur J. & Mu En-zhi 1987 07 15: The Ordovician-Silurian boundary stratotype: consequences of its approval by the IUGS. The Ordovician-Silurian stratotype at Dob's Linn, Scotland is the second systemic boundary approved by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). A review of the internationally accepted criteria required of a stratotype shows that few of these are possessed by the Dob's Linn section. The strongest attribute of the section is the presence of zonal graptolites, although the boundary is recognized primarily on a single biological event (base of acuminatus Zone) for which the evolutionary relationships of the taxa are not established. In approving this boundary proposal in 1985, which received only simple majority support within the Ordovician-Silurian Boundary Working Group (OSBWG) and which fails to meet most of the accepted prerequisites for a stratotype, the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) and the IUGS have established an unfortunate precedent. It follows that future systemic boundaries need not meet the accepted standards. It raises serious questions on the assessment and voting procedures of the International Commission on Stratigraphy and on the credence accorded the recommendations developed by the International Subcommission on Stratigraphic Classification of IUGS. 相似文献
Summary Selection in the F3 generation for seed yield, fruiting branches/plant, effective pods/plant, and seed index (100-seed weight) was carried out in two chickpea crosses. Sixty F5 lines (15 lines/selection criterion) along with check variety were evaluated for seed yield in three distinct environments. The effects of selection criteria on yield stability was examined using linear regression approach and genotype-grouping technique. There were no differences between selection criteria for linear yield responses of F5 lines to different environments. Within all four selection criteria the lines showed similar linear responses. The non-linear component was relatively higher for lines selected for effective pods and seed index than lines selected for yield and fruiting branches. On the basis of mean yield and coefficient of variation across environments, the seed index was the least effective selection criterion for developing high yielding and stable lines. When the results of stability parameters and genotype-grouping technique were considered together, selection for yield and fruiting branches was highly effective for isolating stable and high yielding lines. 相似文献
Scopulariopsis brumptii was isolated from nail lesions in left hand of a 42 year-old-farmer. The direct microscopic examination of the nail samples revealed light brown, septate, branched fungal hyphae along with thick-walled spherical cells. The histopathological examination showed involvement of internal phase of the nail plate. Amongst the antimycotics tested against S. brumptii In vitro oxiconazole was found to be the most active with MIC value of 10 g/ml–1. This report documents the first instance of onychomycosis caused by S. brumptii.相似文献

2. 2.|Changes in metabolite concentrations show that metabolite biosynthesis showed increases after cold acclimation but decreases after warm acclimation.
3. 3.|Similarly, changes in enzyme activities show a preponderance of glycolysis and HMP shunt activity after cold acclimation, while after warm acclimation glycogenolysis, oxidative metabolism and gluconeogenesis predominated.
4. 4.|Higher metabolite concentrations and enzyme activities both before and after thermal acclimation in HM reflect its greater compensatory abilities.
Male albino rats were treated with insulin for one week (acute) and four weeks (chronic). The lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, lactate and pyruvate levels were estimated in the tissues of experimental and control animals. LDH activity decreased in all the tissues of acute- and chronic treated animals whereas the lactate content is elevated. Pyruvate content also showed increment except in heart and pancreas with reference to acute treatment where it is decreased. The hyperinsulinaemia effect in relation to lacticacidaemia and its influence on energy demand and ammonia secretion is discussed. 相似文献
An extracellular protease, which previously has been found to correlate with the appearance of bleblike evaginations on the cell wall of Pseudomonas fragi ATCC 4973, was purified 38-fold by ammonium sulfate precipitation and Sephadex chromatography to yield a single band by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Polyclonal rabbit antiserum raised against the purified enzyme had an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay titer of 4 X 10(7). The peroxidase antiperoxidase method was used to localize the neutral protease in P. fragi at the ultrastructural level. Electron microscopy of cell sections of this organism revealed that high concentrations of positive immunoperoxidase reaction product were located near the cell wall, whereas control sections stained with preimmune or heterologous serum did not show similar deposits to be present. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that blebs appearing on P. fragi contain high concentrations of neutral protease. 相似文献
