The growth requirements of several yeasts isolated from San Francisco sour dough mother sponges were compared with those of bakers' yeast. The sour dough yeasts studied were one strain of Saccharomyces uvarum, one strain of S. inusitatus, and four strains of S. exiguus. S. inusitatus was the only yeast found to have an amino acid requirement, namely, methionine. All of the yeasts had an absolute requirement for pantothenic acid and a partial requirement for biotin. Inositol was stimulatory to all except bakers' yeast. All strains of S. exiguus required niacin and thiamine. Interestingly, S. inusitatus, the only yeast that required methionine, also needed folic acid. For optimal growth of S. exiguus in a molasses medium, supplementation with thiamine was required. 相似文献

The asexual nature of the first cortical reorganization of conjugation in Stylonychia was analyzed by comparing the effect of amputation performed at different stages of early conjugation to that performed on vegetative cells at different stages of the cell cycle. Amputation of vegetative cells delineated a point of commitment to binary fission at 0.51–0.57 of the cell cycle. Cells amputated before this point were induced to undergo the regenerative mode of asexual development, but those amputated after this point continued with binary fission. In parallel, during conjugation a similar commitment was made around the time of formation of tight mating-pairs: early conjugants amputated around this time might undergo regeneration, and those operated on after this stage continued with the first cortical reorganization as in typical conjugants. The two mates of a pair might differ in their response to amputation, suggesting that the timing of commitment to the first cortical reorganization is not related to the events of conjugation, but rather is individually determined in the vegetative cycle of the cells before they pair up in mating. These observations provide support for the notion that the first cortical reorganization of conjugants is homologous to the asexual mode of cortical development in dividers, according to the theory of developmental heterochrony in the sexual reproduction of hypotrichs. The timing of commitment to the first cortical reorganization was found to temporally correlate with the entrance of the micronuclei into meiosis. Since the first cortical reorganization can proceed without the micronucleus, this raises the possibility that initiation of micronuclear meiosis is closely coupled with, and may be determined by, the commitment to the first cortical reorganization. 相似文献

An ultrastructural investigation has been carried out on 180°-rotated ciliary meridians (inverted meridians) in Tetrahymena pyriformis temperature-sensitive mutant (molb/molb), syngen 1, strain B. The longitudinal, transverse and postciliary microtubular bands, the kinetodesmal fiber, and the parasomal sac, are shown to be disposed at a 180° angle to their normal positions or orientations. 对鹦哥岭的珍稀濒危植物进行野外调查表明,本区共有野生分布的珍稀濒危植物79种,隶属于47科71属。其中属于1999年国家重点一级保护4种,如海南苏铁(Cycas hainansis)、坡垒(Hopea hainansis)、台湾苏铁(Cy-cas taiwaniana)和伯乐树(Bretschneidera sinensis),国家二级保护14种。建议将18种列入国家保护名录中,20种列入省级保护名录,其中有30种为海南特有种。鹦哥岭珍稀濒危植物面临的威胁主要有原始森林面积的减少、人为毁林开荒和分布区限制。针对珍稀濒危植物的现状和受到的威胁,提出了应重点加强保护的6个地点及相应的保护对策和建议。 相似文献

SYNOPSIS The formation of the contractile vacuole pore (CVP) in Tetrahymena thermophila. genotype molb/molb is temporally and spatially associated with the formation of the fission gap in the CVP meridian. New CVPs arise when fission gaps appear in CVP meridians, the new pores being found anterior to the gaps. When, however, CVP meridians are rotated 180°, the fission gaps develop late. In more than 1/3 of the 180°-rotated CVP meridians, the new CVPs are formed before the appearance of the fission gap. Evidently, the appearance of the gap is not a prerequisite for CVP formation. Nevertheless, mutants exist in which the absence of fission gap and CVP are correlated in some cases and in which the presence of supernumerary fission gap and CVP are correlated in other instances. It is suggested that the 2 developmental events, although not causally related to each other, may be controlled by a common morpho-genetic signal. This commits a certain site (mid-body) along a ciliary meridian to develop the fission gap as well as the CVP; however, after this step of commitment, the appearance of the fission gap is delayed in 180°-rotated CVP meridians. 相似文献
