Genes for winter hardiness and frost tolerance were introgressed from Festuca arundinacea into winter-sensitive Lolium multiflorum. Two partly fertile, pentaploid (2n = 5x = 35) F(1) hybrids F. arundinacea (2n = 6x = 42) x L. multiflorum (2n = 4x = 28) were generated and backcrossed twice onto L. multiflorum (2x). The backcross 1 (BC(1)) and backcross 2 (BC(2)) plants were preselected for high vigor and good fertility, and subsequently, a total of 83 BC(2) plants were selected for winter hardiness after 2 Polish winters and by simulated freezing tests. Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) was performed on 6 winter-hardy plants selected after the first winter and shown to be significantly (P < 0.05) more frost tolerant than the L. multiflorum control. Among the analyzed BC(2) winter survivors, only diploid (2n = 2x = 14) plants were found. Five plants carried 13 intact L. multiflorum chromosomes and 1 L. multiflorum chromosome with a single introgressed F. arundinacea terminal chromosome segment. The sixth BC(2) winter survivor appeared to be Lolium without any Festuca introgression capable of detection by GISH. A combined GISH and fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis with rDNA probes of the most winter-hardy (after 2 winters) and frost-tolerant BC(2) plant revealed the location of an F. arundinacea introgression on the nonsatellite arm of L. multiflorum chromosome 2, the same chromosome location reported previously as a site for frost tolerance genes in the diploid and winter-hardy species Festuca pratensis.  相似文献

Different definitions of quality of life (QOL) are found in the literature. This raised the question which domains are viewed as really important by persons with dementia. In an explorative study the opinions of persons with dementia (community-dwelling and living in nursing homes), were compared to those of professional carers and instruments for QOL in dementia. Data were gathered through interviews, focus groups and literature study. Most QOL-domains mentioned as important by persons with dementia were also acknowledged by carers and in measurement instruments. Some domains, however, were not mentioned by the carers (‘sense of aesthetics’, ‘financial situation’, ‘being useful’ and ‘spirituality’), or not selected in the measuring instruments (‘security and privacy’, ‘self-determination and freedom’, ‘being useful’ and ‘spirituality’). This indicates differences in perspectives on quality of life between persons with dementia, professional caregivers and researchers. Subsequently it was studied to what degree professionals focus on the QoL-domains that persons with dementia consider essential. Caregivers working on 29 units and 3 day care facilities of 13 nursing homes and in 12 meeting centers filled out a questionnaire (N=374). They reported to focus at least to some degree on most domains considered important by persons with dementia. However, little attention was paid to the domains ‘financial situation’ and ‘being useful’. Professionals offering daytime activities focused more than 24-hour care staff on ‘attachment’, ‘enjoyment of activities’, ‘sense of aesthetics’, and ‘being useful’ This article is a translation and merging of 1) Dröes et al. A thorough SAR study of the oxime region of the dual NK(1)/NK(2) antagonist 1 revealed several modifications that result in potent dual antagonists. Summary Physiological compartmentation in carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) gonads was investigated after intracardial injection of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and two mouse anti-carp-sperm monoclonal antibodies.Immunohistochemistry revealed that a physiological barrier exists in carp testis for HRP and mouse IgG monoclonal antibody around the central lumina of the tubules in which the spermatozoa are located, but not around the cysts containing the precursor germ cells. The results with HRP were confirmed by electron microscopy. Mouse IgM monoclonal antibody did not penetrate the spermatogenic cysts. Probably because of its large size, it was almost exclusively located inside blood capillaries and only sparsely in the interstitial tissue.In the ovary, HRP was regularly distributed in the gonadal tissue, whereas the IgG antibody was predominantly localised on oogonia and early prophase oocytes. The results indicate that in contrast with the testis, no barrier around germ cells exists in the carp ovary.  相似文献

A novel series of histamine H3 receptor antagonists based on the 4-[(1H-imidazol-4-yl)methyl]piperidine template displaying low CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 inhibitory profiles has been identified.
