Narrative transportation is described as a state of detachment that arises when one becomes immersed in the narrative of a story. Participants viewed either an intact version of an engaging 20 min film, “Bang You’re Dead!,” (1961) by Alfred Hitchcock (contiguous condition), or a version of the same film with scenes presented out of order (noncontiguous condition). In this latter condition, the individual scenes were intact but were presented out of chronological order. Participants were told a cover story that we were interested in the amount of gun violence depicted in films. Both groups were given the goal to remember to lift their hand every time they heard the word “gun” spoken during the film. Results revealed that participants were significantly less likely to remember to execute their goal in the contiguous condition, presumably because this narrative transported viewers’ attention and thereby “hijacked” processing resources away from internal goals. 相似文献

This study questions the customary thesis according to which the dominant status of the ashkenazim (European Jews) over the mizrachim (Middle Eastern and North African Jews) in Israeli society is to be explained by the earlier arrival of the former in Palestine. It does so by demonstrating that an early wave of Yemenite Jews, who arrived in Palestine simultaneously with the founding fathers, remained in a subservient social position. Archival sources, memoirs, and contemporary newspapers are used to explain the low status of Yemenite Jews by reference to the broader context of the Jewish‐Arab conflict as it took shape in Palestine's labour and land markets. 相似文献

Experiments were done to test the hypothesis that the avian gut is colonized by cells derived from both vagal and sacral regions of the neural crest. A fluorescent dye, diI (1,1-dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine perchlorate), and a replication-deficient retrovirus (LZ10; Galileo et al. 1990) were employed as tracers. Since LZ10 was constructed with lacZ of E. coli as a reporter gene, infected cells were identified by demonstrating beta-galactosidase immunoreactivity. DiI and LZ10 were injected between the neural tube and surface ectoderm (before the migration of crest cells away from the injection sites) at vagal, truncal (diI only), or sacral axial levels. The bowel was examined 4 days later in order to allow crest-derived cells sufficient time to migrate to the gut. Following injections of either tracer into the vagal crest, labelled cells were found in the gizzard and duodenum. When diI or LZ10 was injected into the sacral crest, labelled cells were seen in the post-umbilical bowel and ganglion of Remak. In the hindgut, marked cells were concentrated in the mesenchyme, just internal to the serosa, and were never observed rostral to the umbilicus. No fluorescent cells were ever found in the bowel following truncal injections of diI, although such cells were observed in sympathetic ganglia. Labelled cells were always found in dorsal root ganglia, no matter which tracer or level of the crest was injected. In embryos injected with LZ10, infected cells in the gut and dorsal root ganglia displayed a neural crest marker (NC-1 immunoreactivity). These observations confirm that the gut is colonized by cells from the sacral as well as the vagal region of the neural crest and that the emigrés from the sacral crest are confined to the post-umbilical bowel. 相似文献

Two crosses between Triticum turgidum wheat lines differing in their response to chlormequat (CCC) were tested. In the F2 population of one cross, which was segregating for the Rht1 dwarfing allele, each plant was cloned by separation of two tillers, one of which was treated with CCC. The tall (rht1/rht1) and the intermediate (Rht1/rht1) genotypes showed a greater response to CCC than the semi-dwarf (Rht1/Rht1) genotype, as expressed by culm length and date of ear emergence. The F3 families of another cross and their two semi-dwarf parents were grown in a three-replicated field test in paris of rows, one of which was treated with CCC. The presence of various antigens in two types of isolated endocrine vesicles (chromaffin granules and secretory vesicles of thyroid parafollicular cells) was investigated by immunoblotting. The two types of vesicles have three common secretory proteins: chromogranin A, chromogranin B and secretogranin II. Furthermore, six common membrane antigens were found: cytochrome b-561, carboxypeptidase H, glycoprotein II, glycoprotein III, synaptin/synaptophysin and SV 2. These results demonstrate that vesicles obtained from neural crest-derived endocrine cells not only share several common secretory peptides and proteins, but also have common properties as far as their membrane antigens are concerned. 相似文献

We studied seven informative kindreds segregating for manic depressive illness (MDI), consistent with X-chromosome transmission of the trait (families do not show affective disease in both a father and a son), using markers mapped to the region of Xq27-Xq28. The lod scores were consistently below -2 in the region extending from about 10 cM centromeric from the Factor IX locus (F9) to the colorblindness region. This study does not replicate previous reports of linkage of MDI to Factor IX (Xq27) and colorblindness region (Xq28) chromosomal markers in other kindreds. 相似文献

Summary Recently, the Wilson's disease locus (WND) has been mapped to the long arm of chromosome 13. We have analyzed segregation of serveral chromosome 13 markers flanking the WND locus and used multipoint linkage analysis to determine the most likely WND genotype of each of 57 unaffected individuals in 5 Wilson's disease families. Approximately 46% of these could be classified as carrier (heterozygote), homozygous normal, or homozygous affected (not yet symptomatic) with a probability of at least 90%, while 77% could be classified with a probability of at least 80%. Our results demonstrate that even though there is a significant decrease on average in serum copper concentration in Wilson's disease heterozygotes compared to normal homozygotes, other sources of variation in serum copper concentration are much greater and preclude use of serum copper to detect heterozygotes for Wilson's disease. Subsequent analyses showed that a familial component, independent of WND genotype, is the major factor accounting for variation in ceruloplasmin levels among unaffected individuals; age is another factor accounting for more variation in copper levels among unaffected individuals than WND genotype. 相似文献
