A female infant with severe growth-weight retardation and with a ring chromosome 11, associated with trisomy X in 15% of metaphases, has been reported. A literature review of cases of r(11) shows that the clinical features of these patients, although showing different frequencies, are similar to those of the del(11q) syndrome. It has been suggested that the variability of the mental retardation in r(11) patients is attributable to the unstability of the ring and to the different break points in these two chromosomal rearrangements. The origin of the r(11) was also addressed by studying fragile sites of the parents at 11p15 and 11q25. 相似文献

In this study we describe two properties of the Gram-negative bacterium Bilophila wadsworthia, namely the ability to clot Limulus lysate and the capacity to induce the production of tissue factor-like procoagulant activity by human mononuclear cells in vitro. Although exhibited at a lower degree when compared with those of typical Gram-negative bacteria or Gram-negative endotoxin those activities may account in part for Bilophila's pathogenicity. The capacity indeed to induce fibrin formation through the interaction with mononuclear cells suggests one mechanism by which the microorganism might cause abscess formation in the host. Moreover, since this activity is dependent on the number of Bilophila interacting with mononuclear cells, we hypothesize that this biological activity is closely influenced by growth environment. 相似文献

Ecologic and hygienic interests led us to analyze the mycoflora of the sands of a sand box for children's play in Turin.Along with traditional methods, we have also employed selective techniques suitable for the isolation of cellulolytic and keratinolytic fungi.A total of 89 species were isolated. As supported by the literature references, the presence of most species is justified by the exogenous supply of vegetal residues, hairs, feathers and excrements. Introduction
In obese subjects, the relative reduction of the skeletal muscle strength, the reduced cardio-pulmonary capacity and tolerance to effort, the higher metabolic costs and, therefore, the increased inefficiency of gait together with the increased prevalence of co-morbid conditions might interfere with walking. Performance tests, such as the six-minute walking test (6MWT), can unveil the limitations in cardio-respiratory and motor functions underlying the obesity-related disability. Therefore the aims of the present study were: to explore the determinants of the 6-minute walking distance (6MWD) and to investigate the predictors of interruption of the walk test in obese subjects.Methods
Obese patients [body mass index (BMI)>40 kg/m2] were recruited from January 2009 to December 2011. Anthropometry, body composition, specific questionnaire for Obesity-related Disabilities (TSD-OC test), fitness status and 6MWT data were evaluated. The correlation between the 6MWD and the potential independent variables (anthropometric parameters, body composition, muscle strength, flexibility and disability) were analysed. The variables which were singularly correlated with the response variable were included in a multivariated regression model. Finally, the correlation between nutritional and functional parameters and test interruption was investigated.Results
354 subjects (87 males, mean age 48.5±14 years, 267 females, mean age 49.8±15 years) were enrolled in the study. Age, weight, height, BMI, fat mass and fat free mass indexes, handgrip strength and disability were significantly correlated with the 6MWD and considered in the multivariate analysis. The determination coefficient of the regression analysis ranged from 0.21 to 0.47 for the different models. Body weight, BMI, waist circumference, TSD-OC test score and flexibility were found to be predictors of the 6MWT interruption.Discussion
The present study demonstrated the impact of disability in obese subjects, together with age, anthropometric data, body composition and strength, on the 6-minute walking distance. 相似文献10.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are a subgroup of the superfamily of nuclear receptors, with three distinct main types: alpha, beta and gamma (subdivided into gamma(1) and gamma(2)). Recently, the presence of PPARgamma has been reported in human islets. Whether other PPAR types can be found in human islets, how islet PPARgamma mRNA expression is regulated by the metabolic milieu, their role in insulin secretion, and the effects of a PPARgamma agonist are not known. In this study, human pancreatic islets were prepared by collagenase digestion and density gradient purification from nonobese adult donors. The presence of PPAR mRNAs was assessed by RT-PCR, and the effect was evaluated of exposure for up to 24 h to either 22.2 mmol/l glucose and/or 0.25, 0.5, or 1.0 mmol/l long-chain fatty acid mixture (oleate to palmitate, 2:1). PPARbeta and, to a greater extent, total PPARgamma and PPARgamma(2) mRNAs were expressed in human islets, whereas PPARalpha mRNA was not detected. Compared with human adipose tissue, PPARgamma mRNA was expressed at lower levels in the islets, and PPARbeta at similar levels. The expression of PPARgamma(2) mRNA was not affected by exposure to 22.2 mmol/l glucose, whereas it decreased markedly and time-dependently after exposure to progressively higher free fatty acids (FFA). This latter effect was not affected by the concomitant presence of high glucose. Exposure to FFA caused inhibition of insulin mRNA expression, glucose-stimulated insulin release, and reduction of islet insulin content. The PPARgamma agonists rosiglitazone and 15-deoxy-Delta-(12,14)prostaglandin J(2) prevented the cytostatic effect of FFA as well as the FFA-induced changes of PPAR and insulin mRNA expression. In conclusion, this study shows that PPARgamma mRNA is expressed in human pancreatic islets, with predominance of PPARgamma(2); exposure to FFA downregulates PPARgamma(2) and insulin mRNA expression and inhibits glucose-stimulated insulin secretion; exposure to PPARgamma agonists can prevent these effects. 相似文献
