We measured the immunoreactivity of the neuropeptide gastrin cholecystokinin 8 (gastrin/CCK 8) in neurons of the terrestrial slug Semperula maculata following acute treatment with mercuric chloride (HgCl2). The distribution of gastrin/CCK 8 was analyzed in neurons of different regions, specifically from cerebral ganglia (procerebrum (pro-c), mesocerebrum (meso-c) and metacerebrum (meta-c). In the control group, neurons of pedal, pleural, parietal and visceral ganglia showed positive immunoreactivity using vertebrate antiserum against gastrin/CCK 8. Gastrin/CCK 8 immunoreactivity was also seen in the fibers and neuropil region of all ganglia. In the cerebral ganglion, 10, 12 and 8 % of the neurons from pro-c, meso-c and meta-c, respectively, were stained with the antibody. The immunostaining was increased in neurons (giant, large, medium and small) after HgCl2 treatment. The treatment greatly increased the mucin content within the neurons. Exposure to HgCl2 enhanced gastrin immunoreactivity in the neurons and this increased with time. Results are discussed in the context of neuropathology in cerebral ganglia associated with the feeding behavior of Semperula maculata.  相似文献

Recent research suggests that attributions of aliveness and mental capacities to faces are influenced by social group membership. In this article, we investigated group related biases in mind perception in participants from a Western and Eastern culture, employing faces of varying ethnic groups. In Experiment 1, Caucasian faces that ranged on a continuum from real to artificial were evaluated by participants in the UK (in-group) and in India (out-group) on animacy, abilities to plan and to feel pain, and having a mind. Human features were found to be assigned to a greater extent to faces when these belonged to in-group members, whereas out-group faces had to appear more realistic in order to be perceived as human. When participants in India evaluated South Asian (in-group) and Caucasian (out-group) faces in Experiment 2, the results closely mirrored those of the first experiment. For both studies, ratings of out-group faces were significantly predicted by participants’ levels of ethnocultural empathy. The findings highlight the role of intergroup processes (i.e., in-group favoritism, out-group dehumanization) in the perception of human and mental qualities and point to ethnocultural empathy as an important factor in responses to out-groups.  相似文献

Vaccinia virus encodes a structural and functional homolog of human complement regulators named vaccinia virus complement control protein (VCP). This four-complement control protein domain containing secretory protein is known to inhibit complement activation by supporting the factor I-mediated inactivation of complement proteins, proteolytically cleaved form of C3 (C3b) and proteolytically cleaved form of C4 (C4b) (termed cofactor activity), and by accelerating the irreversible decay of the classical and to a limited extent of the alternative pathway C3 convertases (termed decay-accelerating activity [DAA]). In this study, we have mapped the VCP domains important for its cofactor activity and DAA by swapping its individual domains with those of human decay-accelerating factor (CD55) and membrane cofactor protein (MCP; CD46). Our data indicate the following: 1) swapping of VCP domain 2 or 3, but not 1, with homologous domains of decay-accelerating factor results in loss in its C3b and C4b cofactor activities; 2) swapping of VCP domain 1, but not 2, 3, or 4 with corresponding domains of MCP results in abrogation in its classical pathway DAA; and 3) swapping of VCP domain 1, 2, or 3, but not 4, with homologous MCP domains have marked effect on its alternative pathway DAA. These functional data together with binding studies with C3b and C4b suggest that in VCP, domains 2 and 3 provide binding surface for factor I interaction, whereas domain 1 mediates dissociation of C2a and Bb from the classical and alternative pathway C3 convertases, respectively.  相似文献

[14C]Noviflumuron uptake, clearance, rate of excretion, and transfer from treated to untreated termite workers were evaluated at 15,19, 23, and 27 degrees C. Feeding units were constructed from plastic containers provisioned with washed sand, distilled water, [14C]noviflumuron-treated feeding discs (0.05 or 0.5% [AI]), and Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar) workers. Feeding units were held in environmental growth chambers preset at 15, 19, 23, and 27 degrees C. The amount of [14C]noviflumuron present within R. flavipes was measured by scintillation counting and subsequently quantified. Uptake of noviflumuron by R. flavipes workers at 15 degrees C was approximately 2.8 times less than at 19 or 23 degrees C and approximately 4.4 times less than at 27 degrees ighest uptake of [14C]noviflumuron occurred at 27 degrees C and 144 h. Most transfer of [14C]noviflumuron from treated to untreated termite workers occurred between 19 and 27 degrees C. [14C]Noviflumuron had a half-life in R. flavipes workers of approximately 31-45 d, dependent on temperature. A higher amount of [14C]noviflumuron was lost through excretion at > or = 19 degrees C (approximately 15-22%) compared with 15 degrees C (0.27%). Results indicated that increased uptake, transfer, and clearance of noviflumuron by R. flavipes occurred at warmer temperatures (19-27 degrees C), and all of these processes were significantly lower at 15 degrees C.  相似文献
