Length–weight relationships (LWR) are reported for seven fish species from the upper Pelus River, Kuala Kangsar district, Perak, Malaysia. This river is located in a remote area and supplies fishes for the aboriginal peoples. Fish samplings were conducted in three different seasons, the dry (June 2014), wet (August 2014), and moderately wet (April 2015). All samples were collected using fish electro–shocker and scoop nets with a 1 cm mesh size. A total of seven LWRs were unknown to FishBase, and four new maximum fish lengths were identified in the study.  相似文献

The present study was aimed to address the possible evaluation of Azadirachta indica (neem) leaf-supplemented diets on innate immune response in Asian seabass, Lates calcarifer fingerlings against Vibrio harveyi infection. Fish were fed for two weeks diets containing six graded levels of neem leaf at 0 g, 1 g, 2 g, 3 g, 4 g and 5 g per kg feed. Fish fed neem leaf-supplemented diet displayed significant differences (p < 0.05) in weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) compared to the control group fed without neem leaf-supplemented diet. Various innate immune parameters were examined pre-challenge and post-challenge. Fish was injected intraperitoneally with a lethal dose of V. harveyi containing 108 cells mL?1. Supplementation of neem leaf diet significantly increased phagocytic activity, superoxide anion production, serum lysozyme, serum bactericidal activity, serum anti-protease activity throughout the experimental period when compared with the control group. Dietary doses of neem leaf diet significantly influenced the immune parameters, haematological parameters and blood biochemical indices of treated fish. The results suggested that fish fed neem leaf-supplemented diet improved the immune system and increased survival rate in L. calcarifer fingerlings against V. harveyi infection.  相似文献

Study of broodstock maturation diets is important in order to increase the quality of berried females, which indirectly improve the larval quantity in the hatchery production of cultured species. This paper reviewed the studies on the maturation diets for mud crab broodstock, genus Scylla and compared independently to identify their effect on reproductive performance and larval quality. The broodstock is usually caught from the wild and held in the spawning or maturation tank for further use of hatchery seed production. Mud crab broodstock was fed either natural diet, artificial diet or mixed diet. Trash fishes were commonly used as a natural feed for mud crab broodstock; meanwhile artificial diets are from formulated fish meal and various kinds of feed. The results indicated that mud crab broodstock has a high dietary requirement for lipids, fatty acids and protein which are to be used during the maturation and breeding processes. However, the natural diet produce better larval quality compared to the artificial diet. The mixed diet is the better diet which resulted in better reproductive performances such as growth, survival, fecundity and maturation processes. This review also discusses the problems in the previous studies for the potential future research to develop very high quality and cost-effective formulated diet for the enhancement of broodstock and seed production technology. Information from this review can be useful in developing a better quality of crustacean broodstock’s diet for commercial hatchery production.  相似文献

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of satisfaction with dental appearance and own tooth colour in the UK and investigate the impact of ageing on these perceptions. Methods: Data about ageing and satisfaction with dental appearance and tooth colour was gathered by means of a questionnaire completed at face‐to‐face interview. The questionnaire was first tested and then used by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) in a stratified random sample of adults drawn from the UK. A total of 3384 adults were interviewed. Results: Three quarters of the population were satisfied with their own dental appearance and two‐thirds were satisfied with their tooth colour. Subjects over the age of 55 were significantly more likely to be satisfied with their dental appearance and tooth colour (p < 0.05) compared with younger age groups. Conclusions: Ageing is not necessarily associated with negative self‐perception of dental appearance or tooth colour. Greater dissatisfaction with dental appearance or colour in younger ages may suggest that perceived appearance is linked to cognitive factors other than social or cultural ones.  相似文献

The search for alternative live feed for aquaculture stocks has inspired research into marine amphipods. In this study, the life history of Ceradocus mizani was evaluated to better understand how this amphipod might be used in aquaculture as an alternative feed. The amphipods did not display copulatory behavior during the study period. The females were multivoltine and attained sexual maturity on average in 23.6 days at a mean length of 4.64 mm. The incubation period lasted 8.8 days, and the mean number of juveniles produced per brood during that incubation period was relatively low (7.58). Females produced a mean of 5.2 consecutive broods and 39.4 total juveniles over the life span. (i.e., 0.33 juveniles/day). Sex ratio was female skewed (1.55:1). Female size and the number of juveniles produced per brood were positively correlated (R2 = 0.63). The mean life span for females and males was 119.4 and 91.2 days, respectively. Mean maximum length was 9.26 mm for males and 8.18 mm for females. This is the first account of the life history of C. mizani and forms the basis for future studies of this marine amphipod.  相似文献

The DNA binding and in vitro cytotoxicity of the dinuclear Ir(III) polypyridyl complexes [{(η5-C5Me5)Ir(dppz)}2(μ-pyz)](CF3SO3)41 and [{(η5-C5Me5)Ir(pp)}2(μ-4,4′-bpy)](CF3SO3)42-4 (pp = dipyrido[3,2-d:2′,3′-f]quinoxaline (dpq), dipyrido[2,3-a:2′,3′-c]phenazine (dppz), benzo[i]dipyrido[3,2-a:2′,3′-c]phenazine (dppn)) with the rigid bridging ligands pyrazine (pyz) or 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bpy) have been studied. Stable intercalative binding into CT DNA (calf thymus DNA) is indicated for the dppz complexes 1 and 3 by induced negative CD bands at about 300 nm and large viscosity increases, with the individual measurements being in accordance with intrastrand bis-intercalation for 3 and mono-intercalation for 1. The observed interruption of specific interresidue NOE cross peaks from the relevant nucleobase H6/H8 protons to the sugar H2′/H2″ protons of the preceding nucleotide is in accordance with bis-intercalation of complex 3 between the C3G18 and G4C17 base pairs and the T5A16 and A6T15 base pairs of the decanucleotide d(5′-CGCGTAGGCC-3′). Complexes 1 and 3 exhibit a greatly improved uptake by HT-29 (colon carcinoma) cells and significantly improved in vitro IC50 values of 1.8 ± 0.1 and 3.8 ± 0.1 μM towards this cell line in comparison to the mononuclear complex [(η5-C5Me5)IrCl(dppz)](CF3SO3) (IC50 = 7.4 ± 0.9 μM).  相似文献

This study aimed to gain a deep understanding of the preparation mechanism of the thermoplastic potato starch (TPPS) by using melt-mixing as a production method, to pursue the changes occurred on the microstructure, morphology and thermal properties of potato starch, TPPS was prepared using a mixture of potato starch with glycerol and water as plasticizer in an internal mixer. The steps of the phase transition, happening by applying harsh conditions (60 rpm, 160 °C, and 7 min), were followed by monitoring the evolution of torque during the mixing time. It was shown that the granules structure was destroyed and a new phase was formed. This was proved by SEM which gave the evidence that the morphology of the TPPS was homogeneous with the smooth surface means that the mixing conditions used in this work were good enough to obtain the thermoplastic starch with a high level of homogeneity in all dimensions. FTIR analysis allowed deducing the formation of new H-bonds between the starch and plasticizers molecules instead of intra and intermolecular H-bonds in the native starch that was destructed through the melt-mixing process., These caused starch chains gain mobility and as the results decreasing in crystallinity, where the XRD analysis exhibited that the crystallinity decreased from 14.5% resulting from B-type in native potato starch to 9% resulting from B-type and VH-type in TPPS. TGA and DSC analysis proved a decreasing in the thermal stability in the TPPS as compared to the starch granules.  相似文献
