The objective of the studies was to analyse the process of oogenesis in vimba from a non-migratory population living in the waters of Drawieński National Park in north-west Poland. The character of spawning of this species is an obstacle in determining the right moment to catch spawners or developing artificial spawning biotechniques. Previtellogenesis of vimba begins about six months after hatching and lasts three years. The trophoplasmatic growth of oocytes (October-March/April) begins when carbohydrate vesicles appear near the nuclei oocytes of sexually mature females (aged 4+). Just before spawning, granulated, lipoprotein-like substances are cumulated. The resorption of pre-ovulation corpora lutea (non-ejected oocytes) and post-ovulation corpora lutea (ruptured theca folds and follicles) begins in the ovary of vimba in the middle of June. These were observed in histological cross sections for about two to three months. Describing the process of oogenesis can provide a foundation for developing practical applications in aquaculture aimed at preserving the biodiversity of the park's waters and this critically endangered species of the Polish ichthyofauna.  相似文献

Two-year pot experiments with three varieties of spring barley were carried out. Water stress (water deficit of soil up to 40% of field water-holding capacity) was employed in four basic growth stages of plants: tillering, shooting (stem extension stage), ear formation and milk maturity. Reactions of the plants to water stress were expressed by a decline in the grain yield of the studied varieties throughout the growing season. The greatest losses in production of spring barley grain due to the experienced water stress of the plants were found at the beginning of ear formation and milk maturity stages of the grain. The sensitivity of the plants to the stress caused by water deficit in the soil during the initial period of their vegetative growth was smaller. Varieties showed significantly different sensitivities to the experienced water stress, depending on the growth stage during which the plants suffered from the stress.  相似文献

Each year, millions of hatchery‐reared sea‐run brown trout Salmo trutta L. (the sea trout) juveniles are released into the natural environment in the Atlantic region. The aim of this work was to investigate the growth responses of sea trout to changing temperature conditions and to compare the growth plasticity between wild and hatchery‐reared fish. Scales were collected from sea trout in a selected river flowing into the southern Baltic Sea. We analyzed the scale increment widths as a proxy of somatic growth and investigated the interannual variabilities and differences in growth between fish groups (wild and hatchery‐reared). We used mixed‐effects Bayesian modeling and ascribed the variances in growth to different sources. Furthermore, we developed indices of interannual (2003–2015) growth variation in the marine and freshwater phases of the life cycle of the fish and analyzed the relationships between trout growth and temperature. Temperature positively affects fish growth, regardless of the origin of the fish. We observed stronger relationships between fish growth and temperature conditions in the marine phase than in the freshwater phase. Additionally, wild sea trout are characterized by stronger responses to temperature variability and higher phenotypic plasticity of growth than those of the hatchery‐reared individuals. Therefore, wild sea trout might be better suited to changing environmental conditions than hatchery‐reared sea trout. This knowledge identifies possible threats in management actions for sea trout with an emphasis on ongoing climate change.  相似文献

In a four year experiment (1988–1991) carried out in a shallow, eutrophic lake, an increase in young-of-the-year pike (Esox lucius) density was used to control planktivorous fish assemblages consisting mainly of small-sized cyprinids: roach (Rutilus rutilus), Leucaspius delineatus, and white bream (Blicca bjoerkna). Stocking with pike fry of ca 30 mm in three successive springs resulted in large-scale mortality among prey of vulnerable sizes. Rotenone treatment at the end of the fourth year showed that roach and white bream populations contained few 0+ to 2+ fish, but very high numbers of 3+ to 6+ fish. By this time, short-lived, slow-growing L. delineatus, with no size refuge from predators, had been driven almost to extinction.  相似文献

Past studies of the oviducts have documented oviductal steroid production during the oestrous cycle in pigs. The present study examined whether the pig oviducts are the source of steroid hormones during early pregnancy. In the ampulla and isthmus, the expression of 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3βHSD) and aromatase cytochrome P450 (CYP19) mRNA by real-time PCR, cellular localization and quantities of the studied proteins by immunofluorescence and Western blot analysis, and concentration of steroid hormones in oviductal flushings by radioimmunoassay, were studied. The expression of 3βHSD in the ampulla and isthmus was correlated (r?=?0.89) and higher on Days 2–3 and 15–16 than on Days 10–11 and 12–13. CYP19 expression was elevated in the ampulla on Days 2–3, 10–11 and 15–16 and in the isthmus on Days 2–3 vs. the other days studied. The studied proteins were localized in oviductal epithelial cells. In the ampulla, the quantity of 3βHSD protein did not change, and was greater in the isthmus on Days 2–3 vs. Days 12–13 of pregnancy. The P450arom protein quantity increased in the ampulla on Days 2–3 vs. Days 10–11 and 15–16 and vs. Days 10–11 and 12–13 in the isthmus. The concentrations of progesterone and androstenedione in oviductal flushings were lowest on Days 12–13 and on Days 2–3 and 15–16, respectively, while oestradiol-17β and oestrone levels did not change. Porcine oviducts are the sources of steroid hormones during early pregnancy. The expression of steroidogenic enzymes primarily increases during the embryos presence in the oviduct, i.e., on Days 2–3 of pregnancy.  相似文献

SUMMARY 1. A biomanipulation experiment was carried out in a small (10 ha), but relatively deep (17 m) and highly eutrophic lake in northern Poland. The lake had been stocked in 1996, 1997 and 1998 with a variety of piscivorous fish (pike, catfish, trout and pikeperch), in order to reduce numbers of cyprinid planktivores.
2. Piscivore stocking was associated with a threefold decrease in the offshore fish density (night echosounding). Despite this reduction, the large planktonic cladoceran, Daphnia hyalina , remained scarce, whereas the density of small-sized zooplankton increased greatly.
3. The lack of demographic response in D. hyalina was probably due to the anoxia in the hypolimnetic refuge of this vertically migrating species. The anoxic hypolimnion, below 3–4 m depth, was inhabited day and night by numerous Chaoborus flavicans larvae.
4. Changes in zooplankton were associated with shifts in the taxonomic composition (from single-cell green algae to filamentous cyanobacteria), size structure (from nano- to net phytoplankton) and seasonal dynamics of phytoplankton, but not in the average biomass of planktonic algae. A clear-water phase, which was absent in the prestocking years, developed in spring, with Secchi depth reaching 2.5 m, a value which had never been recorded in the 20 years preceding the biomanipulation. In general, the lake's status was switched from hypertrophic to eutrophic.
5. Deteriorating food conditions, resulting from qualitative changes in the phytoplankton community, combined with predation pressure by the remaining fish and Chaoborus larvae were associated with the ultimate elimination of D. hyalina from the lake.  相似文献

Brettanomyces spp. can present unique cell morphologies comprised of excessive pseudohyphae and budding, leading to difficulties in enumerating cells. The current cell counting methods include manual counting of methylene blue-stained yeasts or measuring optical densities using a spectrophotometer. However, manual counting can be time-consuming and has high operator-dependent variations due to subjectivity. Optical density measurement can also introduce uncertainties where instead of individual cells counted, an average of a cell population is measured. In contrast, by utilizing the fluorescence capability of an image cytometer to detect acridine orange and propidium iodide viability dyes, individual cell nuclei can be counted directly in the pseudohyphae chains, which can improve the accuracy and efficiency of cell counting, as well as eliminating the subjectivity from manual counting. In this work, two experiments were performed to demonstrate the capability of Cellometer image cytometer to monitor Brettanomyces concentrations, viabilities, and budding/pseudohyphae percentages. First, a yeast propagation experiment was conducted to optimize software counting parameters for monitoring the growth of Brettanomyces clausenii, Brettanomyces bruxellensis, and Brettanomyces lambicus, which showed increasing cell concentrations, and varying pseudohyphae percentages. The pseudohyphae formed during propagation were counted either as multiple nuclei or a single multi-nuclei organism, where the results of counting the yeast as a single multi-nuclei organism were directly compared to manual counting. Second, a yeast fermentation experiment was conducted to demonstrate that the proposed image cytometric analysis method can monitor the growth pattern of B. lambicus and B. clausenii during beer fermentation. The results from both experiments displayed different growth patterns, viability, and budding/pseudohyphae percentages for each Brettanomyces species. The proposed Cellometer image cytometry method can improve efficiency and eliminate operator-dependent variations of cell counting compared with the traditional methods, which can potentially improve the quality of beverage products employing Brettanomyces yeasts.  相似文献

The ketoenamine-enolimine tautometic equilibrium has been studied by the analysis of aromaticity and electron-topological parameters. The influence of substituents on the energy of the transition state and of the tautomeric forms has been investigated for different positions of chelate chain. The quantum theory of atoms in molecules method (QTAIM) has been applied to study changes in the electron-topological parameters of the molecule with respect to the tautomeric equilibrium in intramolecular hydrogen bond. Dependencies of the HOMA aromaticity index and electron density at the critical points defining aromaticity and electronic state of the chelate chain on the transition state (TS), OH and HN tautomeric forms have been obtained.  相似文献
