Winged morphs of aphids were investigated from 2002 to 2004 in 4 Tunisian regions of potato seeds production in order to know the aphid diversity and the potential vectors of Potato Virus Y. This is a very important contribution to the knowledge of aphid fauna in Maghreb. A total of 50,030 aphids were caught using yellow water traps and one suction trap. 130 taxa were identified including 103 species. Ten species are well represented in all regions prospected and typical species were also observed in every region. Some differences in species diversity appeared between regions which are discussed considering weather condition and vegetation.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of somatostatin (SST) analogue, Octreotide, on some features of liver injury induced by immobilization stress (IS) in adult male albino rats. Eighteen adult male albino rats were randomly divided into three equal groups: control, IS, and Octreotide-treated stressed groups. Octreotide (40 μg/kg body weight, subcutaneously) was administrated twice daily for 8 days during the exposure to IS. Octreotide was found to reduce the IS significantly and induce elevations in the plasma level of corticosterone, liver transaminases, and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) as compared with IS group. Furthermore, Octreotide administration has significantly elevated the decline in the total antioxidant capacities (TAC) and lowered the elevated malondialdehyde (MDA) levels observed with IS in the hepatic tissue. Additionally, Octreotide treatment provided protection against the histopathological changes in the stressed liver in the form of significant reduction in the mean number of degenerated hepatocytes, the area % of collagen fibers, and glial fibrillary acid protein (GFAP) immunostaining with a significant increase in the mean number of normal hepatocytes. In conclusion, stressed rats showed disturbed liver functions and its oxidant–antioxidant status with highly expression hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), which were all improved by Octreotide administration, SST analogue.  相似文献

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a prevalent genetic disorder largely caused by mutations in the PKD1 and PKD2 genes that encode the transmembrane proteins polycystin-1 and -2, respectively. Both proteins appear to be involved in the regulation of cell growth and maturation, but the precise mechanisms are not yet well defined. Polycystin-2 has recently been shown to function as a Ca(2+)-permeable, non-selective cation channel. Polycystin-2 interacts through its cytoplasmic carboxyl-terminal region with a coiled-coil motif in the cytoplasmic tail of polycystin-1 (P1CC). The functional consequences of this interaction on its channel activity, however, are unknown. In this report, we show that P1CC enhanced the channel activity of polycystin-2. R742X, a disease-causing polycystin-2 mutant lacking the polycystin-1 interacting region, fails to respond to P1CC. Also, P1CC containing a disease-causing mutation in its coiled-coil motif loses its stimulatory effect on wild-type polycystin-2 channel activity. The modulation of polycystin-2 channel activity by polycystin-1 may be important for the various biological processes mediated by this molecular complex.  相似文献

Rhizobacteria strains were characterized for ability to synthesize hydrogen cyanide and for effects on seedling root growth of various plants. Approximately 32% of bacteria from a collection of over 2000 isolates were cyanogenic, evolving HCN from trace concentrations to >30 nmoles/mg cellular protein. Cyanogenesis was predominantly associated with pseudomonads and was enhanced when glycine was provided in the culture medium. Concentrations of HCN produced by rhizobacteria were similar to exogenous concentrations inhibiting seedling growth in bioassays, suggesting that cyanogenesis by rhizobacteria in the rhizosphere can adversely affect plant growth. Growth inhibition of lettuce and barnyardgrass by volatile metabolites of the cyanogenic rhizobacteria confirmed that HCN was the major inhibitory compound produced. Our results suggest that HCN produced in the rhizospheres of seedlings by selected rhizobacteria is a potential and environmentally compatible mechanism for biological control of weeds. Crude oil is a complex mixture of several different structural classes of compounds including alkanes, aromatics, heterocyclic polar compounds, and asphaltenes. The rate and extent of microbial degradation of crude oil depends on the interaction between the physical and biochemical properties of the biodegradable compounds and their interactions with the non-biodegradable fraction. In this study we have systematically altered the concentration of non-biodegradable material in the crude oil and analyzed its impact on transport of the biodegradable components of crude oil to the microorganisms. We have also developed a mathematical model that explains and accounts for the dependence of biodegradation of crude oil through a putative bioavailability parameter. Experimental results indicate that as the asphaltene concentration in oil increases, the maximum oxygen uptake in respirometers decreases. The mathematically fitted bioavailability parameter of degradable components of oil also decreases as the asphaltene concentration increases.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of caffeine ingestion and partial sleep deprivation on mood and cognitive and physical performances. In randomised order, 12 healthy male physical education students completed four test sessions at 18:00 h after placebo or 5 mg/kg of caffeine ingestion during a baseline night (RN) (bed time: from 22:00 to 07:00 h), or during a night of partial (four hrs) sleep deprivation (PSD). During each test session, participants performed a reaction time test, a vigilance test, the 10 s Wingate cycling test during (measuring peak power (PP) and anaerobic capacity), and the 5 m multiple shuttle test (measuring peak distance (PD), total distance (TD), and fatigue index (FI)). Compared to RN, simple reaction time, vigilance, PP, PD, TD, and FI were altered by PSD the following day after placebo ingestion with increased reaction time and FI and reduced PP, PD, TD, and vigilance (p < 0.001). Moreover, during PSD condition, PP, PD, and TD were significantly higher after caffeine ingestion in comparison with placebo ingestion (p < 0.05). However, both simple reaction times and vigilance were significantly lower after caffeine ingestion in comparison with placebo during PSD (p < 0.05). Caffeine is an effective strategy to maintain physical and cognitive performances the day after PSD.  相似文献
