Acclimated activated sludge was examined for its ability to degrade malathion with and without the presence of glucose as a potential cometabolite substrate. In this study, a packed-bed reactor (PBR) using three kinds of biofilm carriers was employed for efficient degradation of malathion. The results obtained indicate that microorganisms tested were able to degrade malathion. The observed degradation rate of the pesticide in the presence of glucose was the same as without glucose. The activated sludge was found to be able to use malathion as the sole phosphorus source. In contrast, the degradation ability of the activated sludge was lost when the pesticide was used as the sole source of sulfur. The degradation capacity of the PBR was higher than the performance obtained with the batch reactor. The reactor packed with crushed olive kernels exhibited the best performance, allowing a total removal of malathion (10 mg/dm3) within 12 h.  相似文献

The present study enlightens the role of the antagonistic potential of nonpathogenic strain B21 against sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) consortium. The inhibitor effects of strain B21 were compared with those of the chemical biocide tetrakishydroxymethylphosphonium sulfate (THPS), generally used in the petroleum industry. The biological inhibitor exhibited much better and effective performance. Growth of SRB in coculture with bacteria strain B21 antagonist exhibited decline in SRB growth, reduction in production of sulfides, with consumption of sulfate. The observed effect seems more important in comparison with the effect caused by the tested biocide (THPS). Strain B21, a dominant facultative aerobic species, has salt growth requirement always above 5% (w/v) salts with optimal concentration of 10–15%. Phylogenetic analysis based on partial 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain B21 is a member of the genus Bacillus, being most closely related to Bacillus qingdaonensis DQ115802 (94.0% sequence similarity), Bacillus aidingensis DQ504377 (94.0%), and Bacillus salarius AY667494 (92.2%). Comparative analysis of partial 16S rRNA gene sequence data plus physiological, biochemical, and phenotypic features of the novel isolate and related species of Bacillus indicated that strain B21 may represent a novel species within the genus Bacillus, named Bacillus sp. (EMBL, FR671419). The results of this study indicate the application potential of Bacillus strain B21 as a biocontrol agent to fight corrosion in the oil industry.  相似文献

Our study focuses on the study of the phosphorus efficiency on the mineral nutrition of a leguminous plant; to study this efficiency, we tested the effect of increasing doses of phosphorus on the mineral nutrition of faba bean and on the concentration of Nt (total nitrogen), Pi (available phosphorus), KE (exchangeable potassium), C (organic carbon), and the organic matter (OM) rate in the rhizospheric soil after harvest, as well as the concentration of N, P, K, Na, and Ca in the roots, stems, leaves, and seeds of faba bean. The faba bean crop was subjected to four phosphorus doses (P0?=?0 kg/ha; P1?=?70 kg/ha; P2?=?140 kg/ha; P3?=?210 kg/ha). The main results obtained showed that the concentration of the mineral elements in the different faba bean parts reacted differently to the phosphorus treatments. Regarding the dosage of nutrients in the different parts of the faba bean, the results obtained highlight that Pi deficiency in the soil does not only affect phosphate nutrition but can also affect the absorption of other mineral elements, a synergy is recorded between the K concentration in the roots and in the stems with the organic carbon in the soil, and an antagonism between K and Na in the different parts of the plant. All the results obtained in this work show that a phosphate fertilization for doses between 70 kg/ha and 140 kg/ha of P2O5 improves the microbial life of soil microorganisms.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Use of rabbits in orthopedic investigations is common. In this study, focus is on factors that influence bone healing and on distraction osteogenesis. Biomechanical characteristics of two external fixator systems (Orthofix device and Hoffmann device) for long bones were tested. METHODS: Twelve freshly dissected tibiae were obtained from six skeletally mature New Zealand White rabbits, and four-point bending stiffness in two planes (90 and 180 degrees to the fixator pins) and torsional stiffness and strength of the bone-fixator complex were evaluated by use of a material testing machine. RESULTS: In four-point bending, Orthofix device had higher stiffness and strength, compared with Hoffmann device. When the load was applied 180 degrees to the pins, both devices had higher stiffness, compared with that at 90 degrees. In torsional testing, Orthofix device had significantly higher stiffness and strength. CONCLUSIONS: Significant differences in structural properties between the two systems were evident. Loading direction and gap conditions were important factors in determining properties of the systems. Therefore, type of external fixation system and fixation technique should be considered when designing experiments, using the rabbit long bone model.  相似文献

The aim of this work is to study and evaluate in situ, the Artemisia herba alba responses to hexavalent chromium stress in the arid and semi-arid steppe Algerian soil. This metallic pollutant was selected to its high toxicity and to its great release from several industrial and agricultural activities emissions in the area of the study region. Artemisia herba alba is a medicinal plant but also a forage species widely used in pasture. It has dominated then adapted to the arid and semi-arid climate of Algerian steppe region, due principally to their morphological and physiological characteristics.

To establish this work, A. herba alba species were selected in the Algerian steppe region, and their soils were treated weekly with K2CrO4 solution for about three months. Chromium concentrations were determined in the soil and in the different plants’ parts to verify its absorption and translocation with and without pollution simulation.

This study demonstrated that A. herba alba has a strong resistance to high concentrations of hexavalent chromium. An increase in chromium concentrations at the different parts of plant’s has been noticed, without affecting its growth and vegetative development. The results of physiological and elementary analysis indicated that chromium was absorbed by A. herba alba. Cr (VI) accumulation in plant increase when they are increasing in soil. Translocation factor results indicated that Cr (VI) was mainly accumulated by A. herba alba roots. Particle size analysis showed that the soil is poor in organic substances and mostly sandy loams with 79.77% of sand and 9.76% of clay minerals.  相似文献

This paper describes the enzymatic hydrolysis of solid residue of olive mill (OMRS) in a batch reactor with the Trichoderma reesei enzyme. Before enzymatic saccharification, crude lignocellulosic material is submitted to alkaline pre-treatment with NaOH. Optimum conditions of the pre-treatment (temperature of T=100 degrees C and OMRS-NaOH concentration ratio of about R=20) were determined. The optimum enzymatic conditions determined were as follows: pH of about 5, temperature of T=50 degrees C and enzyme to mass substrate mass ratio E/S=0.1g enzyme (g OMRS)(-1). The maximum saccharification yield obtained at optimum experimental conditions was about 50%. The experimental results agree with Lineweaver Burk's formula for low substrate concentrations. At substrate concentrations greater than 40gdm(-3), inhibitory effects were encountered. The kinetic constants obtained for the batch reactor were K(m)=0.1gdm(-3)min(-1) and V(m)=800gdm(-3).  相似文献

Optimum conditions for glucose syrups production from white sorghum were studied through sequential liquefaction and saccharification processes. In the liquefaction process, a maximum dextrose equivalent (DE) of 10.98 % was achieved using 30 % (w/v) of starch and Termamyl ɑ-amylase from Bacillus licheniformis. Saccharification was performed by free and immobilized amyloglucosidase from Rhizopus mold at 1 % (w/v). DE values of 88.32 % and 79.95 % were obtained from 30 % (w/v) of starch with, respectively, free and immobilized enzyme. The immobilized Amyloglucosidase in calcium alginate beads showed reusable capacity for up to 6 cycles with 46 % of the original activity retained. The kinetic behaviour of immobilized and free enzyme gives Km value of 22.13 and 16.55 mg mL−1 and Vmax of 0.69 and 1.61 mg mL−1 min−1, respectively. The hydrolysis yield using immobilized amyloglucosidase were lower than that of the free one. However, it is relevant to reuse enzyme without losing activity in order to trim down the overall costs of enzymatic bioprocesses as starch transformation into required products in industrial manufacturing. Hydrolysis of sorghum starch using immobilized amyloglucosidase represents a promising alternative towards the development of the glucose syrups production process and its utilization in various industries.  相似文献
