The fungicide triarimol was tested for its effect on abscisic acid (ABA) accumulation in growing culturesof Cercospora rosicola. ABA accumulation was reduced by approximately 50% with 10–8 M triarimol. Growth ofC. rosicola, as measured by dry weight accumulation, was inhibited by triarimol concentrations at or greater than 10–7 M. These results are compared with those obtained with clomazone, ancymidol, and paclobutrazol, which inhibit ABA accumulation by 50% at concentrations of 5 × 10–5, 5 × 10–6, and 5 × 10–7 M, respectively. Triarimol, therefore, is among the most potent inhibitors of ABA biosynthesis reported to date. Feeding studies with [14C]mevalonic acid confirmed the inhibition of ABA biosynthesis by 5 × 10–8 M triarimol. These results support previous suggestions that one or more of the steps in the ABA biosynthetic pathway from mevalonic acid is catalyzed by cytochrome P-450. Feeding studies with 1-deoxy-[2H]-ABA in resuspended cultures ofC. rosicola show that the conversion of this substrate is not inhibited by triarimol. 相似文献

Changes in ambient temperature and solar radiation may affect sloths' metabolic rate and body temperature, with consequent changes in activities, postures and microhabitat selection. Although the separate effect of temperature and solar radiation on sloth's behaviour have been previously studied, the combined effect of these climatic factors on behavioural aspects of sloths has never been systematically evaluated in field conditions. Here we evaluated the influence of hourly ambient temperature variation on maned sloth (Bradypus torquatus) activities, postures and tree crown positions, under sunny and cloudy conditions; and tested if any of the animal posture and position increase their exposure to human detection. We performed 350 h of visual observation on eight maned sloths, equipped with radio-backpacks, in northern Bahia, Brazil, recording their activities, and their resting postures and positions on tree crowns. We also recorded the time taken to visualize the sloths on 58 days to analyse if sloths' detection is affected by posture and position. Higher ambient temperature, within a range of 21–33°C, increased the sloths' activity levels in cloudy conditions but reduced their activity in sunny conditions. Increasing ambient temperature also reduced the frequency of huddled posture and increased the frequency of extended posture and permanence in the inner tree crown. Lastly, the postures and positions did not influence sloths' detectability. Thus, the direction of the temperature–activity relationship depends on climatic conditions (sunny/cloudy), and individuals rely on resting postures and positions to thermoregulate. The warmer and drier future climate, expected to occur in the northern Atlantic Forest, may impose change in the diurnal activity levels and postural pattern for this threatened species, leading maned sloths to reduce its activity on sunny and warmer days and adopting an extended posture. 相似文献

Summary The organization of the system of perivascular space around the capillaries in the neurohypophysis was studied in the adult and developing laboratory mouse by the use of histological silver impregnation and electron microscopical techniques.In the median eminence short and long extensions, arising mainly from the shallow space around capillary loops of the primary plexus of the portal system, formed radiations into the adjacent neural tissue of the external zone. The tissue of the neural lobe was separable into non-vascular regions dominated by undilated portions of neurosecretory nerve fibres and pituicytes, and neurovascular regions with perivascular space extensions forming an extensive system of connections between neighbouring capillaries.In the median eminence, the system of extensions of the perivascular space was estimated to increase the neurovascular contact surface area by at least 50%, implying an increased efficiency of the organ without a notable increase of its volume. The possibility that the ramifications of the perivascular space imply an enhanced uptake rate into the bloodstream and a subsequent increased concentration of the neurohormones in the portal blood, was discussed.During development of the median eminence, differentiation of perivascular space extensions of the adult type started in the juvenile of about three weeks of age, when shallow capillary loops had been formed. In the neural lobe, perivascular space ramifications were already present when the internal capillaries were formed and were fairly frequent in ten-day young. Water stress is one of the main abiotic factors that reduces plant growth, mainly due to high evaporative demand and low water availability. In order to evaluate the effects of drought stress on certain morphological and physiological characteristics of two canola cultivars, we conducted a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design. The findings show that drought stress exacerbations result in the plant's response to stress due to increased canola resistance caused by changes in plant pigments, proline, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, peroxidase, superoxide dismutase and malondialdehyde, glucose, galactose, rhamnose and xylose. These in turn ultimately influence the morphological characteristics of canola. Drought stress reduces the concentration of carotenoids, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophylls; however, glucose, galactose, rhamnose, xylose, proline, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde (in leaves and roots) and the chlorophyll a and b ratios were increased. Reduction of plant height, stem height, root length, fresh and dry weight of canola treated with 300 g/l PEG compared to non‐treatment were 0.264, 0.236, 0.394, 0.183 and 0.395, respectively. From the two canola cultivars, the morphological characteristics of the NIMA increased compared to the Ks7 cultivar. Interaction effects of cultivar and drought stress showed that NIMA cultivar without treatment had the highest number of morphological characteristics such as carotenoid concentration, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophylls a and b, whereas the cultivar with 300 g/l PEG (drought stress) had the highest amount of proline, malondialdehyde, soluble sugars and enzymes in leaves and roots. Increasing activity of oxidative enzymes and soluble sugars in canola under drought stress could be a sign of their relative tolerance to drought stress. 相似文献
